Such a crime that this influential progressive group has been totally ignored by the R&R Hall Of Fame. Now that Gary Brooker is gone, it's too late for amends. One of the greatest rock bands ever.
EFF the stupid R&R Hall of Fame. Eff all the awards ceremonies where all the beautiful people gather. EFF all of them. Knowing how great Procol Harum is is enough for me. EFF everything else
R.I.P. Keith Reid who died so recently and of course R.I.P. Gary Brooker, who followed years later after the very beloved percussionist B.J.Wilson. I have been in mourning for Keith, but so appreciate all the lyrics that became Procol songs. My favourite rock band since I was about 12. Got to see them at 15 in the Mothers Club, Erdington, Birmingham. I went alone, lucky for me it was a friendly club and I didn’t try to buy booze. I sat at the front just amazed I was there. Brilliant band.
I am probably the only 81-year-old Procol Harum fan who never smoked dope. (I was involved with developing a technology that is still used in every jet engine still flying in 2021. Drug testing was used even then.) But I was still was able to get "high" on their unbelievable musical talents.
Piękna muzyka i super wykonanie.
- I'd been looking for this theme for many years, I hadn't known it was performed by the magnificent Procol Harum guys!!!.... I'm so happy!!!!
Maybe one day people might know how truly great this band was, but some bands don't reach the masses because the sheep people do not possess the originality gean
As many others have said, I never heard this before.....and loved PH since 7th grade, when I first heard Whiter shade of pale. Loved Albinoni's version also. No drumming on that one though. But it all works.
I've been looking for this "French single" for years! Merci, merci, merci bien for posting. Once again, I agree completely with estivator; this posting is truly award-winning. Bless you.
I am an aged Procol Harum fan, and this is an excellent version, but Brian Auger and the Trinity, with Julie driscol were at a pop concert in the late sixties early seventies,(can't remember which one) and Brian Auger played this live, and I will never forget its intensity, I have searched for a long time to try and find this live performance (not the album version) but to no avail, if anyone has a copy, please put it up onRUclips, it is fantastic. Yeah, I stumbled across it many years ago using the original Napster file sharing service. Don't know where it comes from, not on any album I've seen. Might be a studio outtake. See if you can find their version of Blue Danube.
Me too! Born in 1954, I knew and loved them since their beginnings. Still today I Iove them. Their newest work called "Novum" is again very asthonishing. And this one? Great! I also did not know, that it exists. Fantastic!
I'm pretty sure this was made during rehearsals with Edmonton SO with Chris Copping on the Hammond and Dave Ball on guitar. Dave split with PH under acrimonious circumstances, and they used photos of Mick, as on the LP credits *but it's Dave's image on the front cover. Apparently Chris was working this up with the lads in the orchestra and the band decided to try it on for size and record it! Hopefully someone can chime in and add some facts to this. I am not 100% certain, but surely its wonderful.
Hi. You are partly right in that Chris Copping played this by himself at the start of the Edmonton Concert and it was recorded . In his words, he was exceptionally nervous and wasn't perfect but the orchestra was apparently way out (I think he blamed the conductor). You can read about it on the amazing beyondthepale website for the band.
Excellent - saw them play this and The Blue Danube at the Colston Hall in Bristol. As always, they leave much of the opposition still struggling up the last hill.....
I was one of the stage-crew for that Colston Hall gig. I did both the load-in and the get-out, and watched the PH play from just beside the FOH audio mix position. Fabulous show :-)
I know he was a Venetian composer, but he did not write this adagio. "The Adagio in G minor for violin, strings, and organ continuo is a neo-Baroque composition popularly attributed to the 18th-century Venetian master Tomaso Albinoni, but actually composed by 20th-century musicologist and Albinoni biographer Remo Giazotto, purportedly based on the discovery of a manuscript fragment by Albinoni. There is a continuing scholarly debate about whether the alleged fragment was real, or a musical hoax perpetrated by Giazotto, but there is no doubt about Giazotto's authorship of the remainder of the work."
I was about to say something, but you about covered it. Thanks!I wish there was a little more info about this though, seems like maybe he just lost his woman to an extra-terrestrial sex worm, then his cat had died, and someone shot his dog....then his house burnt down, and he said...well, I think I have a piece to compose! The passion in this composition is so extraordinary!

Awesome Procol Harum. I love their music and still listen to it . They deserved more recognition for their masterful performances. ❤❤❤

Larry Sink, me too (60 years). No DRUGS, but would be missing this kind of BEAUTY OF MUSIC without drugs. So happy, that they did it.

Pure courage to play this as Rock band. Beautiful.
And to include the C-major prelude from Bach's _Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1_ in "Repent Walpurgis_ was genius.

The Doors and a Dutch band called Ekseption played this piece of Albinoni.
Just picked up on this track, absolutely stunning

Ohh, heard this one in Copenhagen in the 70'es, all of them committed musicians, so beautiful - I have searched for it ever since, thank you Nicvac:-)
Ned, so have I - with neg response in the PH fb-group, but perhaps at Beyond the Pale?
Chills? Yes!
One of the Most fantastisk croup who came Out of the sixties
ce groupe des 60' reste un des meilleurs pour sa musicalité...il ne reste que Gary Brooker et Matthew Fisher ...qui donnent encore des concerts!

You must be blessed. Congratulation.

Listen how the band is carefully transforming this classical piece of music in their way of making music...
This and it's flip side were performed by the version of the band pictured,@the time of "Exotic Birds And Fruit" and the "Ninth" album..
Gary Brooker vient de nous quitter et j'en ai beaucoup de peine. Sûrement le meilleur de tous.
