    Why do people watch videos of monkeys if they hate them so much that just don't make sense to me ... monkeys are clean animals they are grooming all the time .. I know it is to make friends and to show love but it is also to get the fleas and other bugs off of them right i see where some one commented about them being flea ridden but with all that grooming I don't see how they could have any bugs on them very long

    Spunky sure gave it a valiant fight!! She was mad! I sure hope kidnapping is not on the rise here?! I feel Sally is a good Mom & knows what she is doing in terms of how to get Spunky back. If she just goes & grabs her she surely could get hurt or even killed. I think she watches very carefully & follows Shari's every move & waits until she feels it is the right time to make a move to get her back. This is just my humble opinion, of course!! It must be so painful for Sally & Spunky & the others Moms watching.

    I think with Gypsy, she is a very low ranking mom, therefore her options are limited. I know this is difficult for us understand (it goes against our inner heart) but it is the monkey’s culture and must be obeyed. I watch and try to understand these traditions and what purpose they serve....some are easy to understand, but others allude me. What purpose does it serve for Gypsy to suffer as she does. Why are these traditions so ridged they leave a baby orphan to die. If they no longer have a purpose how long will it take to change to a more logical updated behavior? I will continue to watch and learn.

      Tricia Ross the mothers don’t just sit by. They are carefully calculating their moment to move in to take the baby *without risking additional harm* to her infant. The kidnapper escalates out of spite sometimes such as when Dy threw spunky down the wall. It was only luck that she survived. It was a fatal drop. The rank goes along in this insofar as it’s always the low rankers who are subjected to this so that’s not so much a factor since it’s a pre-requisite of the kidnap in the first place. I’ve been studying human behavior for my whole life and this is just beyond what I can process! So that’s why I’ve tried to read everything I can get my hands on. It’s so upsetting!

    • @daldeff
      @daldeff 5 лет назад +2

      Lora M that is true. You never see a high ranking baby kidnapped very often. I was very surprised when Sassy was kidnapped by Dy. (Dy is kind of a troublemaker, huh?) But for the most part, higher ranking females take the lower ranking babies and then, from what I’ve read, not really care for them. Just another way that the survival of the higher ranking babies is assured.
      Funny, I used to think they were all a bunch of nasty, disease-ridden vermin that needed to be thinned out, but I’ve grown fascinated by their very meticulous hierarchy and rules.

      They should not sterilize the girls until they have had at least one child that may cut down on the kidnappings. If the girl turns out to be a bad mom beating her baby all the time, put her down.

    Did we catch kidnapping disease from AW? Sheesh. I don't know why but watching Shary stand up and squirm and dance when Spunky is clinging to her stomach.. just irks me beyond description. But when I think about the natural mum, who carries this baby from the time it weighs nothing until it's born, it gradually adds a little weight each day so as soon as baby latches on it feels normal, shes already used to that extra weight there. But not a newbie aunt in training, especially this crazy one. I don 't think she knows why she's taking the baby and/or keeping it, or what she even wants, to be honest! lol.
    I am really curious if monkeys have a "conscience"? A sense of right or wrong. And the ability to categorize any one behavior as one or the other. I.e. does she know what's she's doing is "wrong", or just that the baby's mum doesn't like it. And is Sally really lower in rank? She sure knows how to mean mug you gotta give her that! I hope she starts keeping a closer eye on Spunky. Great video, you capture so many amazing moments so well!

    Thank God I don't live there because I love these little babies and I really hate seeing them being mistreated by anything let alone it being kidnapped and being mistreated I would go after the kidnappers and I would beat them with bats just to get the baby back to its mother but I also know that, that must happen all the time there I watch these all the time every day really i really wish I could rescue a newborn and I would give it the best life I could I would take it every where with me. I'm just amazed by them there really smart if you really spend time teaching them, and I mean teaching them with love not to make money with them but just like I would raise a kid ya know the only thing it would want for would be me say I was gone all day working or something but I would also bring it with me when I went to work most of the time because I build houses so it would be able to come with me most of the time but say it couldn't I would always leave it with someone who I trusted and somone the monkey it self trusted ya know I would love to come home and see that little bugger come running back to me when I get back home from work I would live that I gotta tell ya that monkey would love ne it really would because I would protect it with my life I really would I wish I lived there where I could have one.

    I know it's distressing to see a baby in apparent danger, but monkeys have been getting on just fine since time immemorial. What we're seeing is an amplified form of aunting made more dramatic because of the fact that the "kidnappers" are spayed and don't understand why they cannot have babies. Another reminder that human interference always causes problems, even when it's well-intentioned. Regardless, I don't think there's any intent to harm the babies.

    • @ArrozMarisco360
      @ArrozMarisco360  7 лет назад +4

      Yes I think so too. These " kidnappers" are very gentle on the whole and you could clearly see they just want to hold a baby and groom it.

    • @GozerTheGozerian
      @GozerTheGozerian 7 лет назад

      I'm curious, where would you draw the line between kidnapping and aunting? I think back to Aggie and how we thought she was a kidnapper when in reality she had a bun in the oven and was practicing for her impending arrival, even if she wasn't always as gentle as she should have been with the babies.

    We have a plethora of adorable babies to love on, to our heart's content, this season; and yet, our hearts ache when any single one of them is in distress. They are far more than beasts of the forests. They share our heritage of planet Earth. All creatures human, primate, or otherwise, belong here and should be treated with respect, and love. If only we hadn't taken Shary's gift to bear a child away from her, then our little Spunky wouldn't keep finding herself in such treacherous situations as these.

    It's funny how no matter how much a baby is crying for their mom and is struggling to get away as soon as the kidnapper gets up to walk the baby holds tight onto their fur. They never let go and try to get away as long as the kidnapper is standing or walking. I'm guessing they do it because it's their instinct to hold onto their mother.

    Spunky sounds upset ... do ya think?! At least it appears that Spunky made that kidnapping as unpleasant as possible for Shary. It was almost as if, when Shary went to groom Sally, she was thinking *take her back, take her back*. All that running around and hauling on Spunky must have been terrifying for that poor baby. She sure attracted a crowd. The close ups are great, you can count hairs, but I think I liked a little wider shot like those in the past. There's so much going on in the background and the wider shots let us see that too.

    awww I kinda feel sorry for this kidnapper. I mean she isn't stealing the baby for food or attention. I honestly thinks she just wants to be a mom. To be honest, I don't see these monkeys kidnapping like all the time. Maybe they are kidnapping her because, she is a female. Females are pretty rare in these troops due to the neutering. BTW, Spunky is pretty adorable like all of these babies.

      Well that's what "kidnapping" is in a healthy troop, a younger female preparing to be a mom by "practicing." It's just that we've all got a warped view of what aunting is because the Angkor monkeys have figured out that having a baby = more food from humans.

    Ironically, Sharry and Dy are condemned for wanting to be mom's, though they are going about it in the wrong way... but a mother like Gypsy acted like she didn't want to be a mother to poor Knotty... a head-shaker to me. I'm sure most won't agree with me, but my heart goes out to Sharry. She must be really hurting inside and feel so deprived, thus she's resorting to desperate measures to hold a baby 'of her own'. The baby distress call is possibly, in part, due to the fact that Spunky is hungry and not able to nurse with aunty. Although, Spunky must be getting pretty dizzy with all that twirling Sharry is performing :)

      and Shari seems really gentle with Spunky, she just wants to hold a baby and groom. I think Sally will learn in time it's better to let her do so rather than chasing her.

      I think with Gypsy, she is a very low ranking mom, therefore her options are limited. I know this is difficult for us to understand (it goes against our inner heart) but it is the monkey’s culture and must be obeyed. I will continue to watch and learn.

      lbird the mothers should *not* be condemned! They don’t just sit by.

    You’ll notice at 3:53, the monkey on the left (not sure who it was by name) is lip smacking at the baby, a behavior among primates when they’re trying to soothe their young or show submission. I sense there must be a lot of sympathy going out to this little baby from the monkeys surrounding him. Very interesting

      The damn mothers don't even attack the kidnappers to get their babies back. Rank means nothing. They need to defend their babies no matter what.

      Actually rank means everything in monkey societies. Many times that is what the kidnapping is all about as I have seen, a higher ranking monkey asserting themselves against a lower ranking female....at that point they (the lower ranking female and ) pretty much have to wait it out. I mean sometimes the kidnapper can be very nasty and even bite the baby when it tries to get away and/or push them off of them and threaten to abandon which causes an already distressed baby to truly panic. That was not the case here, Sharry clearly meant no harm, just wanted to "aunt" or babysit. But of course babies never really to be with anyone other than mom, there was no reason for Spunky to panic here, except that he is used to his mom catering to his every need.

    I know this was posted so long ago but hoping someone replies. I’m so confused as to what was happening there with Shary? Did she kidnap Spunky? Was she “aunting”? It looked like several times she was doing all she could to get rid of Spunky even so much as going over to groom Sally? I really would like to understand and educate myself so if anyone is able to give me even just a little heads up I would be forever grateful!! -- poor Spunky! That kids been thru a lot!!

    • @ArrozMarisco360
      @ArrozMarisco360  5 лет назад

      Rhesus macaques don't normally kidnap. Aunting ( babysitting ) they do though and a normal female has to go through a ritual to ask for permission ( grooming the mother, presenting her rump to a baby in a specific way - you could find more info here in this video ruclips.net/video/E9Yimcuz8ck/видео.html ) Shary and a few of the " kidnappers " are essentially desperate females who are craving to have babies but can't as they have been fixed by the authourity ( those that have tattoos on their chest basically ) but they still remember to perform the ritual though perfunctorily from time to time. They are victims of our interference as rhesus aren't known to kidnap like their tropical counterparts long tailed.....

      She is just inexperienced and I think she will learn in time that Shari ( unlike Dy who seems very rough ) doesn't intend to hurt a baby, she just wants to hold and nurse one and it's better to just let her do so as she will return the baby a while later.

    Shary has higher ranking than Sally does. So when Shary kidnaps Spunky there is nothing that she can really do about it until Shary wants to let the baby go or the baby manages to get away from Shary. Now if someone kidnapped Spunky that has lower ranking than Sally, then Sally can kick their butt and take her baby back. The male babies dont really have much to worry about cause the kidnapper(Shary) just wants a girl baby. Now whenever Dy takes Spunky, it is because Dy is trying to kill Spunky. The hierarchy females want to be the only ones that have female babies, so that those babies will grow up and stay being the hierarchy female. If any low ranking female has a female child, then that female once she is grown up, can challenge the heirarchy female to a fight. Which ever female wins that fight will be the new heirarchy female of the troop and it doesnt matter if the winner of the fight was born from a low ranking female or not. She will be the new boss of the troop(if she also beats Bossy, unless Bossy is the mother of the winner) until another female(that is not hers) grows up and challenges for heirarchy. So Dy is trying to help Bossy by not letting there be any other females besides Bossy's that can challenge her daughter for heirarchy.

      The whole situation sucks, that Spunky is always going to be in danger, but that is their way of life. Now Lilly must be higher up in the ranking in the troop because as far as i know she did not have to go through any of this. But i dont know.

    When moms are eating and they do not pay much attention to their babies is how they get kidnapped. The moms think more about eating than their babies. Also, if the baby finds some good and mom finished all of hers she will take it from the baby even when it is in the babies pouch

    It’s refreshing to see them in nature on this channel where they belong. Unlike I see all over the internet of abuse that humans inflict on them. Example...
    Here is a link to another abused baby monkey
    The link is someone exposing the abuse. This person does NOT own the monkey.
    ruclips.net/video/aBwt5NRvLuM/видео.html
    This ignorant lady has this sweet baby locked in a bedroom and any time it try’s to act like a baby monkey she yells at it. She also keeps a shock collar on the poor little thing. The cage she has for it contains NOTHING for stimulation for a baby monkey. Nothing for it to climb and nothing to play with anywhere in sight. I just can not fathom this kind of ignorance and cruelty.

    Oh no....Shary! She nearly killed our poor little Spunky last time. :( I wish I understood why mum is sitting so close without threatening Shary and why she has her back turned to Spunky. Do you have any insight Arroz? Have you ever seen an aunt run out of a troop for kidnapping...or any troop member? Shary's lost her mind! To bad we can't give her a robot baby to take care of to help soothe her need to be a mother. I really hope Sally keeps an eye on Shary and tells her to back off...with a deadly serious warning! I'm proud of Spunky for fighting the way she does. She's gonna be quite the scraper after all of this.
