- Terry Kahn lived in a modest house, drove an old Honda and refused to carry a cellphone because he thought it cost too much. The man was pennywise, but pound generous. Steve Hartman has his story in "On the Road."

What a truly great human being! We idolize sports figures, celebrities, billionaires yet this angel did what we all should be doing....living for others.
I would like to know more about this man. What kindnesses did he show during his life? It's a great thing to learn to live that way.
@@marymorris6897Just my imagination maybe, but since he worked for the VA, I’m guessing he did as much as he was able to within the (very lacking!) federal regulations to help the veterans that came to his office just as a start. People don’t suddenly develop a frugal but generous heart when writing their will if it hasn’t been a part of them for a long time.
Agreed@@BobbieJeanM
I agree. There are lots of ways to show you care.
@@BobbieJeanMExactly! Even if they weren’t always generous with money, they were generous with their time, effort, knowledge, wisdom, etc. The type who would help a disabled person with grocery shopping or drive an elderly person to doctor appointments. The type who coached little league or mentored someone in their field of work.
A true honest lawyer of an admirable philanthropist. My admiration to both.
He wasn’t just frugal, but also a very good investor.
St. Francis said “when you leave this Earth you can’t take w/ you anything you have received..only what you have given” 🙂🙏🏻
An act of amazing kindness.
Beautiful last line to this news story! What a guy!
loved "the obituary that didn't cost him a dime". LOL Best ever closing statement!
No one takes anything with them after they leave this earth. What a good man. Rest well and in peace Sir 🙏🏽
Dear God, we certainly need stories like this today. I dread looking at the morning news, and yet here is such generosity by a fellow human being.
Perfect closing line to this story! Thanks for giving this man the obituary he deserves!
What a Selfless Man. God Bless you
Just think. This is what Bezos or Musk...should he doing.
@@yvonneplant9434you are so right, I think that every day.
Beautiful story about a wonderful man. But the fact that a place called Teachers Treasures is needed in a country with the wealth of the US is rather ridiculous.
Terri Khan didnt see value in things and childish wants it seems. He must've seen the value in life and living beings instead. Society must've been quite irritating for this great man. Just a great man. 🙏♥️👁️♥️🙏
It's " Terry ".
Politicians... pay attention. This is how you do it. Helping others.
A good lawyer! He is one in a million! God bless him for carrying Mr Kahn’s wishes!
An amazing story, I hope he gets to spend eternity as he wanted.
I wish I could give this a million likes. Beautiful story.
The best thing is they are smaller local charities. The executor gets to do some wonderful work.
It is so heartwarming to know that there are still generous people in the world. Bless him. 😊😊😊
This is what wealth should be about. ♥️
That’s incredible! I hope the charities use the money well.
A beautiful gift of joy. Thank you, sir.
Amazing man! He is definitely smiling in heaven.
Thank you Steve❤❤❤
I will never forget the man that worked at the post office, that gave away scholarships, to students every year until he died.
What a up lifting story.may he happily rest in peace.
Wouldn’t it be great if the billions of $$ wasted on political campaigns would go to charities such as those that could genuinely help people. Good job Mr. Khan
Yes! The money politicians spend on trying to get themselves voted in, should be criminal!
I was thinking it would be great if the public school system in our country didn't rely on charity, but was funded by taxes.
@@tomsenft7434 for real!
He enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He was a frugal individual, which means he didn’t have to spend a lot to enjoy life. Frugal people come up with ways to enjoy life that doesn’t require them to live a lifestyle of consumerism.
Right!!
When you have money and don't spend it, it's considered being frugal. When you have no money to spend it's called poverty. This man understood this and gave it all in order to benefit the less fortunate.
that’s beautiful!
I liked that he refused to get a cellphone as too expensive.
I watched this inspiring story on a cellphone.
I love Steve’s stories! They fill me up with hope knowing there are (or were) amazingly good people in this world! Too many of the opposite kind of stories but they aren’t a reflection of everyone. Thank you! 👍💕👏💕👌💕😊
Great story!
There was another story a few weeks ago about a guy living in trailer and left millions when he died.
What a generous person.
My momma always said “you can’t take it with you”.
Hopefully, all of the charities use the money as carefully and mindfully as their benefactor would have (knowing the difference between what's a necessity and what's a luxury for providing for those benefiting, so more can also benefit over an extended time)... without skimming off of the intended benefit, absolutely not lining anybody's pockets in any way. May those administering the programs of these organizations keep the gift-giving for a long time through wise management and *oversight* . Use it wisely!!! *This was a frugal gentleman, administer it frugally... that would ve im his spirit.*
the people that give without attention, social media nothing ....RIP
What a beautiful bsoul... He is in heaven.
Excuse me, but no one gets into heaven based on their good works. If he was an unbeliever, he was lost, no matter how much he gave away.
@@eucharistangel4662 lol...some people will believe anything.
He truly left the world a better place then he found it. May God bless his soul for eternity 🙏
The attorney IS another SPECIAL human being to have been SO TRUSTWORTHY ❤ 🙏 ❤ 🫶
Yeah he gave away a whole 13 million, out of 30 million. Just kidding...both men are awesome!
Freaking awesome!!!
I love Steve Hartman, always warms my ♥ 😊may God Bless Mr Kahn !
Being frugal is like a sickness. Like a hoarder. It’s not something one can change easily.
Wowza! Frugal indeed. Giving away $13Million to charities in his communities. What a blessing. He may not have had a family, but he definitely now has a hugh fan club. It would be wonderful if others in the same situation followed in his footsteps. Lots of under-funded good causes and charities in need of help.
What an angel. Rest in peace
Interesting... a lot of wealthy peope I know also drive old Hondas.
Yes, used Hondas are one of the most common vehicles for millionaires.
I love my state. We get overlooked but we have great people who live here.
Osceola McCarty Hattiesburg MS
Simply awesome!!!
Everyone is Terry Kahn’s children. ❤
What a great soul 👍👍👍
Sad all those charities that missed out because they didn’t take the call seriously.
Exactly! After seeing this on the news, their stomachs sank. It was true! $1 million dollars.
My brother left me with too much money, so I gave to: Hawaii Food Bank, Institute of Human Services, PBS Hawaii, Hawaii Public Radio.
Great story of a great man
While it's great that these organizations received much needed funds, there's more to this story than meets the eye. The first question a journalist should be asking is, "How does a man who worked 27 years in the Veterans Administration as the Director of Human Resources make $13 million in that time frame?" Today, the average expected salary of a Director of Human Resources in the VA is about $124,000. Multiply that by 27 years and it comes to merely $3.35 million. I'm no math wizard, but that seems a far cry from $13 million. Assuming the man had to pay for basic necessities, a good chunk of that $3.35 million would have gone to his mortgage, healthcare, food, etc.
So where did this money come from? Lottery winnings? Blind luck in the stock market? Inheritance?
Could have made double or triple that, but yes, it wouldn't hit the mark. To have an *extra* 13M lying around, it typically wouldn't even be good enough to be a surgeon or a partner in a law firm. You'd need to have some extraordinarily-high-earning endeavor, such as profitable investments, owning multiple successful businesses, etc. Good for him for doing it and for giving it away after he died - it's the Frugality Narrative that I hate here, perpetuating this harebrained idea that The Poors are poor because they don't cut out the avocado toast. It simply won't get you to 13M
Or even to 16-18 million. You raise a valid question. You could be a cheapskate and save $600,000-$800,000, but this amount seems farfetched and how is that a modest house. He may have been a nice man. This news story seems kinda embellished.
Someone that really wanted to make a difference could have bought a few homeless or poor people a decent sized house. That would really make a difference. Or even help out a college student that would have made a real difference to someone.
Wonderful!!!!!
God blessed this man!!
02:27 That last line was dope.
That's gonna be one hell of a tax return.
Heart of gold
Hopefully frugality is contagious.
God bless these angels
Imagine doing it without promoting oneself.
Wonderful
Amazing
"And it didn't cost him a dime"
Bruh, it cost him $13,000,000 to get that CBS obituary....tf you talkin' about? 😂
Rest in peace❤️🙏
Well done, good and faithful servant. As you have been faithful over a little, I will make you master over much. Enter into the joy of your Lord.
Bet he has some mad relatives.
Awesomesauce ❤❤❤❤
The idea that not paying 100 bucks a month for a cell phone will allow you to save 13 million dollars is very missleading.
That's a stretch if you got that from this video. The cellphone was probably one in the hundred frugal ways he had.
I live in apt for poor people how can we please receive some of that thank you
Wow…
Hopefully it made an actual difference. Hopefully they, the charity’s spent it on, worthwhile causes, real solutions. Hopefully. Seems a sweet story. 😊 Rest In Peace Terry.
Reminds you of that old show ":The Millionaire", doesn't it?
😢
The truly good humans do this and don't tell the news.
🙏❤️
How sad this man never enjoyed the fruits of his labor and our tax dollars can't provide for basic school supplies like they use to.
Not everyone enjoys spending money, the way most do, on a houseful of junk, or impressing others. I know people who buy new, expensive cars and then worry every time they park that it will get a scratch. One small example why spending more is not always enjoyable. He did what he wanted to, obviously.
❤❤❤
Cant get to heaven lol this way
❤❤❤❤❤❤
he didn't leave any money to military veteran charities? Just wondering, since he worked at the VA!!
It only takes about 75k annually to live debt free.
About twice what most people make.
Most larger corporations could pay that with little loss to net profit.
Happier, debt-free loyal employee base.
But they won't do it.
The median household income in the United States is $74,500. The median individual income is $50k. Most people in the U.S. do NOT make anywhere near $150k a year.
@@HaulTogether
Clarification;
75k annual for a single person.
❤
The Veterans Administration pays $1M a year?! 😮
Whoever obtained the donation also due to the impotantness of the dedicated attorney vs donor 's contribution will. But y i tear when seeing such news 😂 perhaps the donor don't wanto declare his related family members
Maybe they don't deserve anything
Yes it did 13 million
I bet those other charities are kicking themselves!
Really, all thise charities have executives.Imagine that.
YMCA is hardly a charity. Memberships can be expensive.
Charities with $100,000 boards of directors. The money will placed into a trust, eaten up by overhead and expenses before the truly needy see pennies on the dollar.
Now this, is the news they should put more often……to remind us of our humanity and love for our fellow brothers and sisters
Now that’s a goal. We live in such a materialistic/ look at me age that it’s hard to actually know who has money and who doesn’t. The Lord knows.
Old Hondas were reliable
All the execs taking salary at these non profits thank him
Don't have money to charities. Most of them don't give back to help others.
Frugality is all well and good but the average American earns just $1.7M in their working life. Frugality will never magically give you an extra $13,000,000. You don't get rich by scrimping - you get rich by getting rich
(even a doctor makes only 6.5M and specialists only 10M. And you don't get to put all of that away)
I wish the Billionaires and Millionaires would step up and build Tiny Homes for the Homeless.
Poor thing. He had no progeny to pass his wealth down
