What many only later came to realize was just how much Mick was responsible for Motley's eventual success-- more than just playing guitar licks and co-writing songs. He was nearly a decade older than Vince and Tommy and had been through the whole California rock and roll scene and lived the whole of the 70s as a starving musician and that experience and wisdom was imparted to the three others, who were basically wild and crazy kids with stars in their eyes. he brought old blues and 60s rock influences that the others-- being children of the 70s, never really had, He was responsible not only for their awesome name, but a member of his former band White Horse did an upside down drum solo, the idea of which no doubt Mick passed on to Tommy Lee-- and the rest, as they say, is history.

I guess what stuck in my mind Seeing what Mick was going through should have stopped that shit in its tracks. I haven’t rewatched this so I don’t remember all the particulars but what I remember is Nikki was trying to hold it all together and was way more concerned about Mick than the other two who were just concerned about themselves...at the beginning at least.

About ten years ago, I was lucky enough to score front row tickets to see Crue. Three or four songs into the set, someone threw a bottle at the stage which shattered right next to Mick. Without even hesitating, Nikki immediately launched himself into the crowd and landed on the guy who threw the bottle. At the same time Tommy vaulted over his drum kit and dove into the crowd right behind Nikki. Surprisingly, they didn't beat the shit out of the guy, and handed him over to security. Then they hopped back on stage and Tommy apologized to the crowd saying "sorry about that, just taking care of business." Then they just kept playing...no Axl type hissy fit, no ranting, no threats, they picked up where they left off and played an amazing show. My takeaway...they are dysfunctional, they fight, they argue, and even stop speaking to each other. But when it's important, they have each others backs.

Excellent documentary!!! When I first saw Mick Mars after all these years, it almost brought me to tears. He is one of the many influences that made me WANT to play the guitar, and to see him like that...whoa. But in the end, he fought to come back with the help and support of his fellow bandmates...and the bandmates realized that they HAD to put aside their petty differences for the sake of their friend, Mick and his health. AWESOME!!!! I grew up on Motley Crue...along with Metallica, Ratt, Poison, etc...I was a child of the 80's, and there was never a better time to be a metalhead than the 80's!!!

I was born in 69' so was a young tween and teen when Motley burst on the scene. I fell in love with the bad right away. This band of misfits as they often referred to themselves, had an edge to their music and was open about their pain. As a genetically depressed young girl who could never fit in among my peers, the band was a symbol of hope. They got me through a lot of dark times. People mocked me for loving the Crue, but I wasn't putting up with their BS. I still adore the Crue. And for a girl from southern Jersey who became a college professor and writer, I owe the Crue gratitude for being authentic, loving their fans, and having the courage to admit their mistakes. That takes courage and honor that cane from real growth and maturity. I don't see any other bands admitting their excesses or debauchery back in the 80s and 90s. So delighted the Crue is making new music. God, I would love to see them perforn just once more. If they ever perform again I will make every effort to go. Hugs and kisses to the Crue! And mad respect to the fellow who posted this comment and the fellow who posted the video.

Right on. I think he tightened them up as a group. His musical heroes were from a different era. He saw Nikki had lyric writing/songwriting talent, and that while Tommy was a kid, he was jjust gonna get better and better with age. The big thing - and I know it's easy now to pick on Vince because he looks like a blimp - but Mick essentially picked him as the lead singer. He knew it was about entertaining the audience and getting the girls to go nuts. He wasn't thinking of what Vince would be when he was 50. And naturally Mick picked the band's name.

Mr Mick Mars is my hero, He had an addiction due to legitimate pain, had accepted death as a way out from suffering....
But it was the music!! The Fans!! The Love and positive energy of 50K people who been with them for the last 4 decades that brought him back to us......
And they still gonna try and do it one more time in 2020. I dont care one shit back when "without you" came out and people called them sellouts, that might of been us youngsters trying to be hard, but all the adversities they overcame, Plus im 54 years OLD NOW lol, well I love them for it.

I remember back in the 80's. One of my first "dubbed" cassette tapes was Twisted Sister's Stay Hungry, Side A. Then on Side B was Mötley Crüe, Shöut at the Devil. My buddy had a really nice turntable set-up and he made me copies of these two bands, thinking I'd be into them. And he was right! I listened to Twisted Sister first. The "Mantra" We're Not Going to Take It was epic for me as a teenager. Those old Maxell/TDK Cassette tapes were awesome. When I got to Side B. I let the tape play out. In the Beginning began, the creepy ominous sounds that lead into Shout at the Devil? The rest of the Album blew my mind. Looks that Kill, Too Young to Fall in Love, and every other song on that album was decent/amazing! I was now a full fledged metal head! One of my first concerts was when I was 13, if I remember correctly. My nephew and I went to see Styx. It was great, but nothing compared or prepared me for what was coming. Once I got my driver's license, and my car, I was 16. My friends and I got tickets to see oddly enough, the two bands that were on that tape. Not in the same concerts and at different times. But we saw Mötley Crüe open for Ozzy Osborne. That was at the Mecca Arena. Then later we saw Twisted Sister open for Iron Maiden. One concert was in Milwaukee @ the Mecca Arena, and the second was in East Troy, the Alpine Valley Amphitheater/Music Theater. The show that Iron Maiden put on was unbelievably wicked, not just in the effects, the Pyrotechnics, and the insane props, but the music was beyond great! Aces High, Run to the Hills, every song they performed was spot on perfection! Twisted Sister was also really good as well. Mötley Crüe's performance was incredible. Mick Mars is unbelievably talented as his fans all know. His guitar solos were so fierce and powerful he brought the Arena down! Then Ozzy Osborne came on and his stage show was again elaborate and amazing. Seeing these guys play, tearing up the Arenas was so fun. When Mötley Crüe came back and they began to headline their own shows their stage shows got far more elaborate, insane, wild, and beyond wicked! The Tommy Lee 360⁰ drum solo? WTF!???! The next year, he amped it up more. They ALWAYS, ALWAYS made sure that when you came to a Mötley Crüe concert/show you had fun! You got your money's worth! After that dubbed cassette tape I went to Mainstream Records & Tapes. They were the local music store that leaned heavily into Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, etc. Oh and they also had a "Head-shop" in the back. Graffix "tobacco" smoking 🚬 products...lol! We went there for the ⚡⚡Metallica⚡Ride⚡the⚡Lightning⚡⚡ listening party and then the Mötley Crüe Girls, Girls, Girls listening party. It was sick! I won a Creeping Death Picture Disc. Ah those were the best times! The 80's and early 90's had the best music, the most amazing concerts, and the most fun that we ever had! Truly epic! There are so many unbelievably crazy things that we saw in the parking lot of Alpine Valley, to even inside of the parking structures outside of the Mecca Arena, to the insanity INSIDE of the Arena, or in the Alpine Valley Amphitheater. The general admission Lawn "seats" weren't seats at all. You laid down a blanket or something else and then you either stood and screamed or you laid down and got laid! Or other "alternative" sexual ideas. And trust me, at a Mötley Crüe concert, THEY DID THEM! THEY DID THEM ALL! I had NEVER thought I'd look over at the seats next to us and see either a girl giving mister dinky kisses, or a guy dining at the Y. Heck one time the guy nudged me and asked if I wanted in on it? That blew me away, LITERALLY! LOL.
There was debauchery, there was insanity, there was lunacy, but at EVERY CONCERT, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TIME YOU'D EVER HAVE!

Ankylosing Spondylosis is a cruel disease. I know first hand I’m a female and carry the gene for AS, I have had some of the issues. Normally most females don’t suffer AS. I have 3 brothers all much older than I. The middle brother has AS and suffers as Mick Mars does. I was tested because I kept getting a eye disease called Anterior Uveitis it’s when the iris spasms, it’s very painful and is classed as a semi emergency for requiring treatment. It’s often mistaken for Conjunctivitis which makes the whites of the eye turn pink. I had this two to three times before the hospital decided to test me for HLA B27 it’s a blood test that shows up the genetic marker, from there I was sent to orthopaedic consultants to check my joints via X-ray. The only problem that showed up is I have a slight narrowing of the L sciatic arch , this is where the sciatic nerve runs through. That was my only indication of the disease. I also have Spondylosis in my neck causing limited neck movement. As for my brother he has a routine and sticks to it. One great thing about Mötley Crüe is the publicity AS gets as not many know about it. They also have some great music.
