    Ah, okay.. managed to convert to .svg using MeerK40t, now I can adapt fingers for 4 mm plywood. Also, basic classification colors (for example, black for engraving, blue for cut inside, red for final cut outside). Thank you again.

      I'm not sure what you mean? The file is separated into different layers and they are labelled. Red - Etch First, Cyan - Cut Second, Magenta - Cut Third, Black - Cut Last

      @@DenzilMakes I am unable to load .dxf file into Inkscape in order to check everything. Then, imported into program for cutting, and from there exported into .svg file for final inspection and changing color. I wish I can afford CorelDraw...

      On my more recent files I have started including .ai and .svg files. When I get a chance I will go back and add them to this as it’s one of the more popular downloads.

      @@DenzilMakes Thanks. I made one. Just my kerf is between 0.1 and 0.15 mm. I can see that there is dimension 2.8 mm for 3 mm plywood. It goes really hard. Probably because calculation is for 0.2 mm kerf. Or, maybe I should defocus and increase power?

      @@DenzilMakes I can see that Inkscape is problematic for many things. Last night tried to use "living hinge" extension in python. The problem is that old version of Inkscape (0.91) and new one (1.0.1) uses different python. Syntax is different and it does not work. I have Fusion 360, but I am afraid that it will be more complicated for such task.

    Amazing designs and a huge thanks for sharing the files! Can I ask what design software you use and do you have any videos showing your design process?

    • @DenzilMakes
      @DenzilMakes  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you, I use a variety of software depending on what it is I am working on. Mostly I use AutoCAD, but I am trying to move to Fusion 360, and sometimes I will use Adobe Illustrator as it's easier for certain things.
      I don't have any video's of my design process, that's not really something I want to spend my time on.

    amazing! Which laser did u use? And what do you recommend for a beginner?

    • @DenzilMakes
      @DenzilMakes  4 года назад +1

      Recommending a laser cutter is not very straightforward. There are a lot of variables to consider. What do you want to use it for? What is your technical ability?
      For someone completely new to laser cutting and limited technical knowledge, the Glowforge or Dremel offerings are an easy way into it. Personally I would never want to own one. They are far to slow compared to some other machines available, and cost far to much. If you have some technical ability you can achieve the same results on far cheaper machines.
      Will you be mostly cutting or engraving? If engraving then a machine with a metal tube rather than a glass tube is going to give you more control though probably is cost prohibitive for someone just wanting to get started. With a glass tube if you are mostly going to be engraving then a lower power tube is going to give you more control. Personally my biggest regret with my machine is not getting something with more power (my machine has an 80W tube) as I mostly cut. Now as I almost never run at 100% power then why do I need more power? Well if you get up to 150W then cutting foil starts to become viable, it would also allow for cutting thicker material more easily.
      For someone just starting out who is technically incline then a cheap Chinese "K40" laser from eBay is probably the route I would take.

      I downloaded it and already made 2 of them. Really awesome design.
      I also bought the lamp shades... 😍
      Thanks for your help.
      For my own designs my workflow is as follows...
      Fusion 360 for parametric designs (the math option is awesome)
      Creating dxf with kerf compensation with the postprossessor in F360
      I love it.
      Because I’m a teacher I also want to inspire my students and future students...
      I’m working on a parametric design for a bracelet. (First prototypes are a succes) It will be a real magnet for all my students.
      If it’s ready I will probably make a RUclips vid and I will let you know.
      Many thanks!
      Regards,
      Freddie Oonk

      Glad you like the file. I saw your order come through for the lampshade. Thanks for your support. I also like Fusion 360 for it's parametric abilities, the equations, and the kerf compensation in the dxf post processor. I am also considering changing my controller so that I can use Lightburn which allows you to do kerf compensation.

    is there a proper method to enlarge/resize the box legnth and height template without messing up the alignment?

    • @DenzilMakes
      @DenzilMakes  7 лет назад

      There isn't a "proper" method, what the best method is will depend on what you are trying to achieve. Personally I would use the stretch command in AutoCAD being careful to stretch each of the castellations equally. Changing the height is a little more tricky to work out the adjust meant for the living hinge, but if you calculate the distance around the bend through the middle of the material being bent and extend the hinge pattern to equal that distance it should be about right.
