  • UPDATE: There's an Easter Egg! No, it's just a bug in the code. See if you can find it and drop a comment.
I was in on the pre-order for the new mesh devices from Particle, so I've had them sitting around for a while now. Time to get them out and see if this mesh stuff is all as easy as they say.
Also going to do some of the work using the new Particle Workbench tool. This is an extension to the very popular Microsoft Visual Studio Code editor program. Greatly simplifies the process of doing development for Particle devices locally on your own computer.
Drop me a comment and let me know what you think good uses for these types of devices are.

Thanks Matt. Oh yah, by the way, I did your Harbor Freight welder DCEN conversion, and it made it an entirely different machine. Thank You !

This vid made me get my tech geeky groove on. 🤣 No idea about any of this Matt but thanks for the info and making me think outside of my cardboard box. Haha

Hi Matt. Great video. I got onto your channel for the woodworking info but I’m interested in this kind of project as well. I’m a retired EE that did a fair amount of automation work while working and still enjoy tinkering with stepper motors and code. I’ve recently gotten into Arduino work and didn’t realize you could do that kind of coding with Visual Studio. I’d like to see more of these kinds that you’re doing. Thanks for the tip on Particle IO. It appears they’ve made a lot of the connectivity easy. I'd like to see more of this type of project. Thanks again!

Thanks John. That's helpful feedback. I spent my early career working with Emerson automation, and still refer to going out onto a plant floor as "going to Disneyland".

Went to your channel to see if you had a store...by chance have a store?

Well 1st - love the screen name. One of my all time favorite SNL bits! And no, no store. This is all just for fun. I bought my dev kits directly form Particle.io. The steppers and drivers are eBay specials. I added links to the description.

You found it. Now, do you see the implications of this seemingly small oversight? Why does it still work (because it really shouldn't)?

@@MattHeere , the direction is set to the opposite of what was received... no biggy since alternating directions are sent periodically.

@@NaturesChild Bingo. I actually have my definitions for CLOCKWISE and COUNTERCLOCKWISE backwards so it cancels out and the motors end up doing the right thing, but this obviously isn't the right way to make it work!
