First time listening DarkThrone. a Norwegian Black Metal band.
Darkthrone is a Norwegian black metal band from Kolbotn, Akershus. Formed in 1986 as a death metal band named Black Death, in 1991 Darkthrone embraced a black metal style influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost and became one of the leading bands in the Norwegian black metal scene.
Their first three black metal albums - A Blaze in the Northern Sky (1992), Under a Funeral Moon (1993) and Transilvanian Hunger (1994) - are often dubbed the "Unholy Trinity". They are considered the peak of the band's career and to be among the most influential albums in black metal.
Darkthrone has been a duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto since guitarist Zephyrous left the band in 1993. They have sought to remain outside the music mainstream, but have in later years collaborated with the National Library of Norway for exhibitions about Norwegian culture history and black metal. From 2006, Darkthrone's music strayed from the traditional black metal style and incorporated more elements of traditional heavy metal, punk, and speed metal, while more recent albums have also included doom metal.

A few suggestions: Primordial (Ireland), Saor (UK), Winterfylleth (UK) and Agalloch (USA). This bands have some folk influence in the music and lyrics, i think you'll like it more than the raw stuff. Also the video is NOT official, there is no official video from their black metal material. "Too Old Too Cold" from 2006 is their only official video (not black metal).
Lol, he actually is quite easy to understand once you get used to the singing.
The main difference between the 3 are that:
Death metal is usually more produced and technical, and tends to stick to “gore and horror” themes.
Doom Metal is basically: Black Sabbath but heavier and slower, sometimes more operatic, sometimes just about getting high.
Black Metal is basically the “Anti Death metal”. It started because all Death Metal bands started to sound more and more similar, even down to using the same studios and amps etc. Less produced, and more about atmosphere and if not about “satanism” then usually about nature, or paganism, or sometimes nationalism in varying levels.
Doom Metal is sort of like Black Metal if it “calmed down” a bit. I think Candlemass are one of the best examples of Doom metal, and they have a vague link to Mayhem, in that Dead, one of the singers of Mayhem appears in the video for “Bewitched” by Candlemass, just before he was in Mayhem.
