  • I compare the Lotus Emira touring suspension to the sport chassis setup I drove previously. Both were V6 manual cars. Which did you choose??

I think most of us agree that unless you plan on tracking your car, or you live in a neighborhood where the roads are always perfectly flat, get the touring setup. I got it and have no regrets.

I decided tour within 1 minute of driving the sport in the city 😂 my tour emira is excellent and gives confidence around fast bumpy corners, never skips or loses tyre contact.

I ordered the touring after waffling between the two choices. I might take it on the track a few times a year but the majority of use will be just backroads. Lotus recommends touring in that use case and I don’t think I know more about suspensions then them…

Yeah I wouldn’t get Sport just for an occasional track day.

I got the touring suspension. There is no need for the sport’s suspension at all. The touring is perfect. I advise everyone to get it

Lotus does not do floaty suspension and people should pay attention to Lotus's advise. Only get the Sport suspension if you plan to track the car regularly, The touring suspension is perfect for daily use, in twisty mountain road and good enough for the occasional track day.

I live in the suburbs in Florida. The roads are all in good shape at worst, excellent shape at best. Having smooth roads all around, I went with sport suspension. Very happy with my decision, I don’t need a softer ride with touring suspension

Been watching vids on this car for six months and most people go Tour > Sport and I agree. A 400horse power car like this Emira is meant for fun weekend drives, not racing. It can race but in drag races or tracks, you'll get beaten by cheaper faster track cars. I believe the Emira's value will dip in 4-5years, but after ten years its value will start climbing up.

I have a 2020 Supra EXACTLY like yours and I would be very interested to know if you would swap the Supra for the Emira ... I am looking at an Emira but i know i would lose some great options like: adaptive suspension , head-ups display , adaptive cruise control , crosswalk detection and the fact the supra is bulletproof with no issues whereas the Emira as loads of niggles.

Nice yeah I’m not planning to trade in Supra for Emira. It’s a way different car and faster as well. Plus the reasons you mentioned.

@@CarGuy11 I'm thinking about trading in my Supra for an Emira as well. What would be the most obvious reasons to make the switch?

Vette is more powerful and V8 sound. Lotus is more exotic with mid engine handling.

I actually have the sport chassis. I found it’s quite compliant and comfortable on the highway. On the back roads, it’s a blast. I had to choose before I drive the car. I spoke to one of the Lotus engineers and after a discussion about my other cars and driving style he suggested the sport option. He also said I probably wouldn’t even notice the difference on the back roads. On videos I thought the touring had too much body roll. I did drive the touring and thought it was fine and I would be happy with it. I would probably have to drive them back to back to really feel the difference on the road.
I’m fine with the sports for an hour drive. ( My commute was only 20 mins so even sport would be good for me) I think if I were going long distance I would be exhausted on either chassis after 4 hours. Some cars you can drive eight hours and be pretty refreshed, others you need a nap. I think the Lotus is a nap car, regardless of chassis. It’s not a GT car. It’s definitely more sporty and more tiring than my previous 718 Cayman GTS. It’s also a bit more fun for me. As long as it doesn’t become a repair nightmare I’ll be happy with the decision.
