Radical students in South Korea have been staging violent demonstrations after declaring an "Anti America" day.
They clashed with police for the second day running.
Violence flared again as they demanded action against former Presidents Chin Doo-hwan and Roh -Tae - woo for the deaths of hundreds of civilians.
The students accuse the U-S of condoning the killings, which took place 15 years ago.
Washington denies it.
South Korean students again took their anger to the streets of the capital Seoul on Tuesday - the second day in a row.
The student activist group `Hanchongryon' had designated Tuesday as "Anti America Day" called for a day of action.
The protesters were demanding that former Presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo be punished for the deaths of more than 200 civilians during a pro-democracy uprising 15 years ago.
Chun and Roh had headed the regime that sent troops to suppress the uprising.
Riot police, wearing fireproof clothing, shields and nightsticks, confronted the students.
The trouble started when police blocked about 300 students trying to march on the homes of the former presidents.
Most of the students wore gas masks and bandannas over their faces to prevent being identified and were armed with rocks and metal pipes.
Some of the estimated 200 petrol bombs they had threw found their mark.
They left the street in front of Hongik University streaked with blazes.
The police charged the students and fired dozens of volleys of tear gas to try to disperse them.
It was the latest in a series of violent confrontations aimed at pressuring the National Assembly into passing a special law to punish the former presidents.
More than 200 people were killed and thousands more injured during the 10-day crackdown ordered by Chun and Roh, who had come to power six months earlier in a coup.
Earlier on Tuesday, the students, chanting "Punish the butchers", students burnt paper effigies of the ex-presidents and current President Kim Young-sa.
They also burned an effigy draped in a U-S flag.
Activists have accused the U-S military of having condoned the troop deployment - Washington has denied any involvement.
Move violence is expected on Friday when an opposition party's bill on the issue is to be voted on.
Students have also called for a two-day boycott of classes starting Friday, and said they will hold mass rally.

Why there's no DATE in that long description? It's filmed in 26th Sept. 1995. 20 Years before the video uploaded.
RUclips didn’t exist in 1995 you dipshit
@@sufimuslimlion4114 I'm not complaining about it is not uploaded 25 years ago obviously you idiot. I'm talking about there is no DATE of filming in description. There are lot of ignorant in comment section think this is filmed recent years.
Now *this* is irony.
And that how democracy looks today? More like a police state
I guess it was filmed in 1980s.
At the time, innocent Koreans were killed by dictators and some KR people wanted US to help.

Solidarity with the South Korean comrades fighting against capitalism
These south Koreans are protesting American Imperialism not Capitalism
@@sbevexlr848 Same thing
@@OGRussianPatriot Nope they're protesting against American presence in the country and the entire economic system as a whole
@@sbevexlr848 the economic system in the "Republic" of Korea is capitalist
@@OGRussianPatriot ok yes I agree but the reason they protested wasn't because of Capitalism but American presence in the country

You guys need to know the backgrounds of why Koreans staged such violent protests. There are two backgrounds to anti-American sentiment. One was during South Korea's military dictatorship in the past, and the other was a criminal act by the U.S. Forces in Korea. As for the first background, Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, former military generals, have staged coups in the past and trampled on democracy. And Jimmy Carter, then president of the United States, sat on the sidelines. So protesters at the time expressed anger at the U.S. government, which helped in the Korean War, saying, "We were betrayed by the U.S." At the same time, presidents who seized power in a coup brutally suppressed students and protesters demanding democracy.
The second background is the U.S. Forces Korea's crimes against Koreans and environmental pollution. It is a completely different matter for the U.S. military to protect us and commit crimes in our territory. Most of the demonstrations in the video are caused by crimes committed by U.S. troops (environmental pollution, crimes against Koreans).
I made many good American friends while serving in the Air Force. They preferred to serve in Korea rather than in hell places like Afghanistan and didn't want to cause friction with Koreans. If US want to keep their troops on the Korean Peninsula, respect local culture and citizens. Then nothing will happen.
Same behavorial pattern Viets fought bravely against the usa, their not welcomed in the ROK, make sure they don't even ride on our bus, spit in usa governments food all the time, all usa passport %20 mark up retail price, if they can't sustain life in the ROK, otherwise they'll never leave.

@1,700 Islands you started :)
That is the worst excuse I ever heard for this behavior. First time I see someone complaining about the US NOT getting involved. Anyways, I think the US should leave and let SK become Ukraine 2.0, and let the good guys take it back.

tham so many north koreans
The fact that South Korea was literally saved by the USA in the 1950s and are still protesting then is horrible and I can’t even imagine they should never happen and they should all be know the truth
US did not save South Korea. It moved for its own interests and cost millions of Korean lives. RUclips is censoring my comment constantly so I can't say anything. Try.
They also want to see American blood spilled, even if its an American Infant
Majority of south korean love america, many thank US for saving their country from north korea. In the past, yes, many south korean didn't like america because of bad reputation of US soldier in their country. But since 2010, due to growing anti china sentiment, south korean began to love US. In 2011, 74% south korean had positive view of US. Now according to south korean goverment survey in 2018, 80% south Koreans love US and US became the most favorite country in south Korea.
@@antoniussamuelson3748 That doesn't happen over night, and that change isn't likely to be instant. So what made them love the US more with Anti-China on the rise?
I get about China's global ruling of 2049 is one of these, but what else?
@@Mark3nd because china is more threathening than US. As chinese influence grow, south koreans began to worry that china wanted to influence their country and they saw that as threat. The other reason is china in 2013 stated that they disagree with korean reunification as they didn't want to border with unified korea under ROK and love to stealing korean culture like when they claim kimchi and korean traditional clothes as their culture which anger south korean a lot.
awww we don't do this in Korea Town in Los Angeles, California. USA
Blm usa does this coast to coast, time for you leave our country asap, including don't ride on our ROK transports bus etc. Go back to your black lives

It was Japan, and that is Korea😂
The current young South Korean generation is the generations that have been educated by KTU (Korea Teacher Union, 전교조). These people were brainwashed that America is bad. In addition, South Korea's foundation was wrong, especially the generation armed with regionalism (Jeolla regionalism or tribalism). The Jeolla people in South Korea now have a huge network. One of four people of Jeolla are jointed to Jeolla regional tribal party. They have voted for their tribal party 93%~97% since 1987. Actually they have voted their tribal party 100% always. They are absolutely different the others South Korean. They've supported North Korea since Kim Dae Jung (Jeolla tribe's Godfather, also former president of South Korea) sun shine policy. They think if North Korea complete Nuclear weapon, they can expel the US military in Korean peninsula and can win these tribal wars.
