I love the fact that nobody between them two blamed each other.. They stuck together.. Its so awesome
Yeah, they stuck together. You know they're divorced now?

In Pennsylvania, especially in the winter, I always had emergency supplies in the car (mini van). Blankets, sleeping bags, extra clothes and socks, non-perishable food, water, flares, matches (and lighters), flashlights, first-aid kit and yes, spare tire and jack. Never needed it, but never regreted having it.
Penn gets srs snow yeah
Me too, except I carry those items to give to the homeless or people in need, if they come across my path somehow
like the old saying goes *better too have one and not need it then need one and not have it*
Me too. I grew up in the canadian prairies. I've been stuck on a ring road inside a city for 5 hrs with half a tank of gas with -45c with windchill and at some point you conserve gas and go get the blanket from the trunk. I got thumbs up from the dude beside me. Maybe id have let him cufdle if it fell night..im thankful it was an accident and not me in the wilderness.. These shows make me cringe. My dad was in the logging industry amd taught me young safety in the bush, safety while fishing and driving in different conditions. Im really glad these folks had someone expecting them and an area to start looking.. I hope others learn from these examples too.
I liked your thinking that be prepare for worst always when u r out of your town
I saw this episode when I was a kid. The part where Jennifer melts snow in her mouth and dribbles it into Clayton's mouth to keep him hydrated is burned into my mind forever. It didn't even occur to me that you could do that, until I saw her do it. When you're a parent and your kid's life is on the line, you do whatever it takes, and you think of these things because that's what it takes.
Me too I couldn’t remember where I had seen it at until I seen this . seared forever for ev er
Interestingly this is the way mothers in many parts of the world today still introduce their babies to solid food- by chewing it for them then feeding them that way. We have become very sanitised to such natural practices in the west. With a child that has been on the breast since birth there is not much by way of microbes that mother and baby don’t already share. It builds up immunity and gut flora and is a perfectly natural practice.
Paid to have chains put on at a service station..... then decided to take them off right after?
What? These people on this show blow my mind some times
Ive watched a bunch of missing and survived videos.
The missing are usually very well equipped.
The survivors usually have nothing.
Blows my mind. Lol
Exactly! Atleast put them back on, and dig the truck out ASAP.
It was a 4x4 lol
Yeah this guy made me angry ... but his wife should have had the common sense to say 1,000 mile trip during really dangerously bad weather and you're not packing extra provisions of food and water and a way to keep us warm in case we have an accident or the vehicle breaks down ... ?
And no way to call for help not even a CB radio ?
She would still have her toes if she had said that she and the baby were going to stay home .
And this poor guy would still have his toes if he had listened to his mother
@@g-manracer1997I was screaming this! The 4 days they sat was long enough to dig out. It would have been extremely hard, but they said they were on a gravel road. But that is the exactly why they are on the show, all those people have something in common
Clayton is almost 30 now. That guy’s a legend for making it out of that
I know why did,t they go back where they came from
@@lindaortiz9515
They thought they were heading towards the main road and more likely to flag down someone for help. It was much further than they thought and didnt find that main road. By that tine she was in too bad condition to walk any further. So he went back to the car, leaving her and the baby sheltering in the cave. After resting, he walked until he was found. I think the road he was found on was about 50 miles from the car, they thought walking the orher way was nearer. It was a happy ending thankfully! 😊
I hope he came out smarter than his dumb ass parents

@@pweter351 Stupid parents. There are a lot!
i have already searched for your only comment after beggining to watch)))
Even the babies are good actors in these stories! 👍🏻
😅😅 YES!
For some reason,im starting to think that this shows are the real people in each of this story.
It always amazes me that people get lost and instead of turning around and going back to where they KNOW there's civilization they continue going the way that got them lost in the first place. Why?! Just why?!
Remember, they’re under extreme fear and duress while making decisions, especially once dehydration, malnourishment and fatigue sink in, causing them to hear and see things that aren’t there, etc.. I understand what you’re saying tho and it is surely frustrating to watch, but we have no right whatsoever making judgements unless we’re under the same exact conditions they were under 🙌 (no disrespect intended)
@@kimberlyb5512 I get what you're trying to say but typically speaking they're not suffering from dehydration, frost bite or anything of the sort when they make the decision to get lost further because it's the beginning of them getting lost.. Like this story, if they stayed with the truck or followed the road back (the opposite way that the car was going) they would reach civilization. People make these mistakes that could cost them their lives on poor decisions
Panic?
Because city folk lack even the most basic survival knowledge
always go back where u r sure of something ,even if it takes more hours
It's easy to point out all the mistakes made on these shows. Truth is, often people underestimate the severity of their situation until it's too late which in turn leads to panic and impaired judgment. I'm just grateful these experiences are shared as learning lessons for the rest of us.
Very well said. It’s easy to critique someone when you’re watching this sore because you know something goes wrong… but in real life everyone cuts corners in certain things because they think nothing will go wrong
Best line ever: ”...dragging a 4 month-old baby twenty miles through the snow, looking for a road, was a gamble....

@@stephenlittle9795 this generalization is absolutely correct. It's been evidenced many, many times.

They almost died trying to get to a funeral... the irony. Sheesh.
And can't forget about little baby Clayton. Baby of the century. A little soldier he is.
I can't believe this guy let his wife and baby leave that truck with him. A soldier none the less. I would have never brought them with me to hike threw the cold and snow when they had the safety of that truck and able to run the heat. That girl and her baby are troopers tho.
It's a tough call. If you leave them in the truck and you die on the way to get help, that basically ensures they are going to die too. Whereas if they come with you, there's a chance the baby lives even if one of the parents dies on the trip. Really no right answer in that situation. Both options have huge risks.
How do you know you never would. What if he gets injured on the way? Its always better to stay together. Military will tell you that. Rescue operations, abandon ship. Say 5 men, u jump im the water and stay together. Period.
They wouldn't be alive if he left them he did what he had to do
It’s a 50/50 situation. If he left without them, they might not have made it. Either he found help and went back for them, but once they got there the mom and baby were dead. Or he died before he could find help.
Bring them with him would ensure that even if he died, they could keep going (possibly), or they all find help at the same time and all make it
Man I hate these Monday morning quarterbacks. No one is asking for your analysis of their decisions. Unless you have been in that exact situation you have no idea how you might respond.

We decided- meh- we're leavin' anyway - even though we were WARNED and told not to go - the weather is BAD and we have a BABY in tow. Some people...
I know! It's wonderful to be close to your family, but putting your baby in danger in order to go to a FUNERAL! Stupidity! Send flowers and prayers. Stay put where your family is safe.
It was the ZERO food and water for me!!????
I drive 5 miles down the road I have a half gallon of water with me all the time.
He said he was so into family he just had to go to this funeral. Yet he would be willing to risk his wife and baby‘a safety. He knew the weather was bad. Hard lessons.
And I don't know why they didn't have a cell phone of some type .... why do on a trek like that during inclement weather with a baby and not have even a cheap cell phone ?
Or even a CB radio that he could have gotten cheaply .
People who can't afford cell phones could at least try to buy a good used CB radio that they wouldn't have to be making mostly payments for a plan once it's installed .
@@gardensofthegods well judging by the old ass phone he used to talk to his mother in the beginning, this was before cell phones were popular...and the CB radio thing is just unrealistic for the average person.
@@itsgryme1081 yeah I was wondering when this was meant to have happened but no a CB radio not unrealistic at all in fact I'm from the Philadelphia area and I can remember back in the 70's a lot of people had them ...my brother had one ... we knew a lot of people that had them ... especially almost everybody that had a truck it seemed like everybody we knew that had a truck had a CB radio ...
They didn't cost much and any time you had an emergency or needed to get a message to someone you could pretty much get it done if you had friends on the CB radio .
People were always friendly and willing to do whatever they could do to help even if it meant calling your family or friend of yours on their phone .

I don't recall anybody having a cell phone quite that early ... think it was more around '95 ?
All the more reason he should have tried to get a CB set even a used one or just not have gone like his mother said .
Not like it matters now but there are still people who don't want cell phones and or can't afford them .

Oh wow, I've never even thought of trying something like this if I gotten lost somewhere cold
Nice, that's a good idea
Well, when you've watched enough of these, you realize people of all ages, and life experiences make mistakes. From being lost at sea, in the desert, deep in the jungle or anywhere, being supplied and having plans for emergencies can be the difference of life and death. One must also know the capabilities of their equipment. When that snow got deep, and they were the only ones on that road, that was the clue to turn back. Sometimes pride is dangerous.
I noticed that men deliberately go into high risk situations trying to be manly but women get into it through bad luck or doing a stupid decision.
@@sexysilversurfer very true, especially when you're young. I think I've seen your comments before, that tells me your educating yourself on what could happen. Same here. You people are so judgemental but forget when this was. You were really lucky if your parents had a set of encyclopaedias at home! Taking the chains off and walking out into the snowy wilderness leaving the truck, NO NO NO
We all make mistakes. Lucky it worked out.
Maybe the husband should have gone for help by all by himself and left his wife and baby in the truck. That should have been the plan. Praise the Lord that they got saved
That's exactly what I just said.
Ya I have no idea why she didn’t stay in the truck with the baby. This is one of the most touching ones I’ve seen. This family was so strong
**STUPID**
I remember the movie made of this was called "Snow Bound" starring Neil Patrick Harris. Loved the movie. My mom got me into it when I was younger.
In their death note:
“We honestly can’t give a justifiable reason as to our whereabouts when this occurred. We were just determined to make it all the way to Idaho so that you’d quit worrying about us” .... Found this one a really tough watch. Catalogue of errors made. I realise they were young, but even so the majority of decisions they made were awful and could have cost them even more than their toes. 😪
I'm glad they survived but from going to begin with to taking the unknown back roads to not turning back once things got snowy to not putting the chains back on to eating snow to not staying with the car to hiking out with a woman and a baby they did literally nothing right except marking where the wife and baby were with a sweat shirt.
"To eating snow" was wrong?? Have you never heard that the human body needs water to survive?? They would be dead for sure after 7 days without the snow they melted in their mouths
It would have been funny if Clayton (who is 13 now but a baby back then)

I actually thought, "why don't they try to start the car, and melt the snow by moving the wheels in place, and then drive in reverse for 60 miles in the same direction that they came.." in theory that would have literally gotten them back to safety.
If they had managed to get that car out the same night they got stuck maybe, but by the morning the road behind them was already covered in snow. they would have to dig 50 miles of snow back to the main road where the ploughs clear the snow.

Because sometimes people want to stay together and not separate
@@johnle231 I guess. I just figured sometimes people want to stay alive and not risk an infants life by dragging him through the snow in a sleeping bag
I think that this is the first survival situation on land (as opposed to being adrift in a life raft) I have seen where there was no attempt to make a fire or even the thought of doing so.
If you travel anywhere in unpopulated areas, ALWAYS have canned food, bottled water (2 liter soda bottles filled with tap water work great and are free), a pack of lighters, and dry newspaper in zipper seal storage bags. If it can get cold have blankets and warm clothing in there as well. If you don't need these things, they will be ready for you if you ever do. You never know.

One thing my husband dose when we go on a road trip. He packs lots of survival gear. I'm mean like sleeping bags, coats, boots food and even toilet paper and he always had first aid kit with waterproof matches. That use to annoy me but after living in WY, not anymore. We also learned in WY never take a road trip in winter. When we first moved hear we still to try to go back to Mo for Christmas. We went back for the first 2 Christmas and every time we would end up sliding off the road. No one was hurt and vehicle was fine and luckily we had gear, last time is happen we was only yards away from a bridge and we never traveled in the winter again. In Mo the roads and highway seems to always be plowed but they dont do a lot of plowing here in Wyoming.
I've driven through the region this was in and WOW what a place to get lost! The landscape is VAST (I was there in the fall and it reminded me of the Lord of the Rings sometimes, it didn't look like New Zealand exactly, hard to describe), and very sparsely populated. Even if they'd had a cell phone, especially at that time, it probably wouldn't have worked cause they still barely do today. Really in the middle of nowhere. Amazing all three made it out alive
Living in Canada my entire life, getting stuck in snow is a common occurrence. The best thing you can do it have a few road beers and wait for someone to help pull you out.
it was a road to a wilderness area that was closed from October onwards. I suspect they would not have seen anyone till Spring.
@@hannahswheelieawesome Hence the road beers Hannah... Come on noe...
Let's get real, these shows are all fictional
I have never cried in this series until now🥺
I wish to GOD that they had listened to Jim's mother and just NOT GONE AT ALL!!!!! They are SO lucky little Clayton didn't die! Hopefully this taught them a lesson about not taking unnecessary risks!
"Turned into a machine and kept going", yeah thats what got you there in the first place
I felt so sorry for them walking in that deep snow ‘cause I’ve walked in snow that’s deep and it’s so hard. Then he came to that 51 mile sign....
This might be my favorite 1 thus far. Made my heart smile. Let me keep watching lol 👀
Ohh...! The baby was alive 😍😘
Can't understand why they left the truck
@Fj Fj. Correct me if i'm wrong. I thought i seen him put a For Sale Sign on it before they left.
@SabrinaLoveXoXo1993 I found your Comment to be very interesting and presented quite Eloquently. Thank you for the informative read.

Cant fix stupid
Its a miracle they survived this
Amazing story of survival and the entire time the well being of the baby was on my mind. Glad it was a happy ending.
Rodnye...
Minus 20 toes!
@@redblade8160 yikes but true
Can you imagine how the Native Americans were able to survive in this kind of climate for so many centuries before America was discovered. Survival need to be learned from them. Also when traveling make sure you have a compass. Plus don’t zip all the way because the baby needs air. Also use branches to build a small cart to drape the baby off the snow. My friends always laughed at me because when I am traveling with my kids I have all emergency items I can think of.
Well what they did was camp their entire community in one spot for the winter, specially selected. with all their possessions, food, and all their fuel. Basically like living in a town.
I can't grasp parents' stupidity - how can you take such a small child on the long road trip like this, let alone with such a weather forecast...??
Thank heavens for good people who live out in the middle of nowhere.
You know, I noticed something. We blast all these people in all these episodes for not having a smart phone, but most of these events had happened way before smart phones came along, and when signals were really poor/connections. Now they got coverage in all kinds of places even remote places, back then they didn't and when I say back then, I mean like 14 years ago, I mean this whole technology thing is blooming and ensures more safety and survival in situations like this and all these other episodes.
I remembered watching the movie to this years ago. Glad they made it.
Tough baby!
It's amazing to see the stupidity and naivety of young people. I don't even leave the house if there a single cloud in the sky on a sunny day let alone a blizzard. So lucky that truck came when it did. I thought the family would've sent rescue or something. No way would he have made another 51 miles.
For one, yes they were stupid and yes they were young but not all young people are stupid. Secondly, if you dont leave your house because there is a single cloud in the sky you need some serious mental help. Hope you can get some help for that. Lucky they survived.
Lets see? You could have spent 4 hours digging out the truck to get on solid ground for a quick recovery and instead you opt for camping out there with the truck, doing nothing for 2 days and then you decided to go on a 20 mile hike with your infant baby and girlfriend... perhaps it might have been better to spend the 4 hours digging the truck out? LOL
Exactly my thoughts. So many ways they could've digged that out.
It said the wind kept blowing snow back there so it was just wasting their energy and hope
@@syd5043 Then pack some snow or use something to block the wind... Not that hard, also if they had to jettison the vehicle they could have torn it apart to makeshift some snow shoes or padded and insulated snow boots...
@@eugenemurray2708 I think they did well with the plastic bags and extra socks.
well they were 21, not experienced, and clearly they didnt have youtube to watch tutorials of survival
I can only imagine the horror it must have been..and the kid❤️ glad they got through this.
Stupid decision by parents to drive in this Weather....Am so sad to see baby suffer.
I am sad too... no matter what you do on your own, no matter how long it takes, if children are involved you need to be very careful in what are you doing, your decisions may cost the life of your child or other people. 😔
omg! god bless the baby and his strong parents. My heart melted......
How in THE F*** DO YOU NOT bring food, blankets and water on a trip KNOWING your going through a snow storm wtf?
Have to say the way they're preparation for the trek wasn't too bad. We had a blizzard in the 80s and I wore my newspaper plastic sleeves to protect my feet from the moisture like they're doing and it worked pretty good.
That was your only option dig out lol!!! Listen I'm from Canada drive across Canada regularly I been In the worst storms you could imagine. Off reading thats what I was doing today in the snow I got stuck in horrible snow storms before one time it took me 16 hours too dig myself out you can even use the jack if you got too. Theres so many thing they could of done and if it was snowing when they got stuck the best thing was try too get out immediately and go back. I know I'm use too it where I'm Canadian but especially if I had my new born baby I would of made sure too have food blankets warm clothes which I always have in all my vehicles and have plenty of gas. If you got even a half tank of gas you can make that last a long time starting the vehicle for 15 20 min then shutting off for a half hour. Even longer if you only dine this every hour. I was stuck at a gas station in Northern Ontario in a massive storm for 36 hours nothing open and had less then a quarter of a tank of gas and made it do. You should never keep going or go a different way then you came from unless your absolutely sure. I know this is useless now but for anyone els that finds themselves in this situation. Also when stuck you can rock your vehicle out. If I can even move a inch or two theres a very good chance I'll get it out with no one pushing just by rocking back back forth using the gas and break. Manuel shift is even better again.
Thanks for the advice. I live in Florida and only have seen snow once. However, I hope people that are or could eventually run into this scenario will consider your advice.
U da man
Boo hoo no one cares about your Monday morning quarterbacking. Truth is unless you were there you have no idea what you would have done and neither do I?
Ps how many times do you have to tell us you're from Canada. So what? I'm pretty sure this happened in the back country of Nevada. Have you been there? No ok stop talking and enjoy the show.
Lóok at it this way, do you really think that couple and baby care what you 'might' have done? So why do you feel the need to educate us? I don't remember asking.
Looking at that truck a half tank of gas turning it on and off wouldn't last but a few hours.
Adult children forget that when a parent cautions them about something, they’re usually acting on their God given job of care and protection. Not just being a nudge!!!
The way they dragin the baby is so funny 🤣
Suppose to be sleep I’m up at 1 crying watching this 😇
Drive for 12 hours with a baby ? Take a plane for God's sake !
have you
ever flown with a baby? pass.......
After all this family went through together- it would kill me if they ever separated after all of this. I so hope they are still one happy family. And thank God the momma was breast feeding! If it weren't for her breast milk, the baby surely wouldn't have survived. ❤
Sadly, they got divorced after 12yrs, but they are the closest of friends. They had another daughter before the divorce and both children grew up beautifully. Both are happily remarried and remain close.
It is all on Google. All you need to do is type in Jim and Jennifer Stolpa.
There is a full film about them on You Tube called THE JIM AND JENNIFER STOLPA STORY 1994.
You might like to watch it. Stars Neil Patrick Harris! x
@@suesmith616 Wow!
What a coincidence... its new years eve and i am watching this 😆
Ok, I’m really rolling at some of these comments 😂 everybody please just chill🤣🤦🏾♀️ they both acknowledged they were young and inexperienced at the start of the show to even be out there in the first place. I thought it was pretty doofy to be out there with a fourth month old baby to begin with too, but they all made it out. That’s the good part. Also, I don’t care what anyone says, THATS a real man! He got his family in the situation, and also got them out, and that’s what real men do. I was so nervous that the baby wasn’t going to make it, but thankfully they all did. We all make mistakes.. it’s easy to say what you would do sitting behind a screen in a warm bed. they could’ve lost more than just their toes, so let’s just be thankful they didn’t!
Hes a complete beta. Luck saved them.
