Don't have the original but got the rereleae a hand ful of years ago. Really have wonder if TAMIYA is going start a run on EVO on past kits. Mad congrats and thanks for sharing.
Well, we get keeping with the old school vintage theme and the wheels - no real need to update them. However, we like that there did include additional rear hexes so you CAN update the wheels (and tires) if you want!!!
@@Competitionx thanks I saw it. But I meant not the connector. These 3 parted rims're annoying to build. So I hoped for "normal" rims, but the old balloon tires😉
It looks like a decent kit, especially with the better gearbox and suspension, and keeping the same chassis and bodyshell. And you get full bearings AND turnbuckles. Have Tamiya finally woken up to the modern day?!🤪
I would prefer a new re release over this, ie falcon, Nissan King cab or Toyota hilux monster racer etc, the changes don't make me want to buy another hornet, even for the 40th anniversary
Well, sure, those kits would be nice as re-releases, however giving us all of these upgrades in an older kit like the Hornet is a hopeful sign we'll see more of this in the future!
i don’t understand what Tamiya is doing. The fans are waiting for re-releasises of the Dyna Storm, the King Cab, the Porsche 959 and more. Meanwhile, Tamiya re-releases the 10th (?) iteration of the Hornet. This time they removed most things that made this kit a classic, but without making it competitive. so now it’s attractive for no one.
Well, this is the 40th Anniversary of the original car, so maybe that's why they came out with a 2024 version of it. And, honestly, it works WAY better than the OG so, as far as being competitive, it does have that going for it. However, we agree - WE want, at the very least, the King Cab and Porsche 959 - that's one super iconic ride that would sell a ton for them.

Thanks. We'd LOVE to see (and be first in line for) a series of EVO re-releases!!!! Let's hope, right?
Ordered mine yesterday. I got the original for my birthday 40 years ago and raced it.
Yup, re-releasing this with upgrades was a really good idea for sure!!!
Need a comparison video! Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Ya, tried getting an OG Hornet, didn't happen. Might try again though :)
Awesome. They really put amazing stuff into this kit. For 95% I'm cool with it. The 5% not happy're for not replacing the rims😂

Changing the rims would put the EVO in Super Hornet territory. I just wishes Tamiya comes up with Super Hornet EVO next with the hardbody and all.
Ah, gotcha. Yes, a bit tedious to build for sure. Something 1-piece would have been nice even if it looked the same.
Doesn't look bad at all. It will be interesting to see how it performs 🙂
Got that video coming soon!!! Stay tuned.
Great kit breakdown!
Thanks dood!
Will be buying one of these when they come out , it was my first rc car
Yes, it seemed to be alot of people's first RC car. Never had an OG, but glad we were able to get this super fun next gen version!
the 380 motor adapter suggests the grasshopper might get an evo version?
Right! We can only hope.

We can only hope, however this IS a 40th Anniversary kit so...
Can you tell me how rc driver got one?You work for the company?I can see why you would get one.
Tamiya works with RC Driver for review stuff.

Bought mine already and can't wait to get it!
