How to Make a Drag & Drop Sorting Activity in Google Slides

- In this video, I will show you how to make 2 different interactive drag and drop sorting digital "worksheets" in Google Slides. These activities can be adapted for any grade level or content area. Some of the tips include how to clone items to make an "inifinite" stack for students to grab from and using a table to sort items into. This is a fun, engaging activity for students of all ages!

This helped me so much, Thank you! I just wanted to give you some tips. The tips are that when you inserted the background so they don't edit it i have an easier way to do it. at the top of the slides were you get the materials there is a section that says slide is you click there at the bottom of that section you will see edit master when you do that you can go in and make all the slides you need but then if you want you students need to edit something you have to put the text boxes out side of the master to insert all the slides after you will need to go to the plus at the top and click the drop down arrow and you will see all the slides that you made! Hope it helps!💻 It will be much faster too.

Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial! Creating drag and drop slides for the primary teacher at my school and have been looking to see if it’s possible to lock the size of and image and still be able to move the image. I noticed near the end of the video that you remind the kids that if they accidentally change the size of an image to click undo..... so I am thinking there is not! Thanks again for all the effort that goes in to creating tutorials

You can remove the background of the image natively on your Mac by just pasting them to Pages, and then using instant Alpha. You can cut-paste the edited image to the Google slide so that you won't have to download and upload it to the website for editing.

Here is my problem: I have created drag and drop Google Slide Presentations that I want to use with Pear Deck (Premium). I want to retain the drag and drop features in Pear Deck. However, when the children access the Pear Deck lesson, they can no longer move the interactive slide components. What am I doing wrong? I know how to use the interactivity built into Pear Deck, but I want to use the interactivity that I put into my original slides. Help.
Thanks for sharing! How can the learners drag and drop during a live class? How can 10 students complete each slide ? Do I create a separate slide for each student?
Soulful Shundra during a live class, I would still post the activity on google classroom making a copy for each student. They would then complete the activity on their computers in the classroom.

Is there a way I can make sure the students cannot resize the pictures (like the coins)? My students often get frustrated because the object they are dragging resizes or flips
This is great thank you! Quick question. I've made all changes in the slides I wanted and put it in my drive. Do I need to change the "share" within google drive? Right now it is private so do I change that to anyone with the link?
I assign mine in google classroom with make a copy for each student. They all need their own to do the work.

Sure! I use Screencast-o-matic for the screencast parts and then edit all the parts together in imovie. It is a process! lol. I do have a brief video on how to use screencastify to make screencasts. That is what I was using for my school lessons when it was free.

Gin, I'm having trouble after removing the background on the nickel. I'm left with too big of a box around the nickel. How do I down size without distorting nickel?
Stephanie Hadaway drag it from one of the corners to size down and maintain the same width and height. You might need to rewatch that part of the video again.

I wonder if you could save some steps on the png slides. I wonder if you made a blank one with the wooden table and a white box. Make it a png and then duplicate it many times and then put a text box with the new $ amount! :)

Cindy Snow you could definitely do that and save yourself some work. Some people dont want the kids to be able to delete anything (including the amount in a text box). It’s personal preference. I teach HS so it isn’t as important to lock everything down as it is in younger grades. And thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful.
I have one but confused as to how to finish. I want to drag letters match. The students have to drag and drop them. How can I go about saving these? Thanks
Your videos are so helpful! Can I make these slides and then use them in Seesaw? I’m an elementary teacher and I am just beginning to teach remotely with my students.
unfortunately, i don't think you can. On Seesaw you have to upload as a pdf, I believe, so this won't work.
Thanks for responding! I use slides during teaching so I will continue to use them with the students as part of the I do, We do together portion and find similar tasks in Seesaw for them to do independently. We’ll figure this out, we’re teachers!
My question is won't the students be able to edit that very last slide with the speech bubble and the sticker on it? If it's part of the coin Google slides where they can move around the coins to make the dollar amount?
luvclu yes they can. I haven’t had an issue with that but it is possible.

Yes as long as when you posted the assignment you left it open for them to edit or turn in again.
This is great! And I need help!!! How do you make an object or clip art picture permanent so the kids can't move it around the screen. I want to make a drag and drop with pictures, but some of the pictures need to be secure on the screen and not move. Any advice!
Create the slide with all the immovable objects and then download as a png and set to the background (like I show in the video). Then add the things that you want to be movable!

How do you have the share setting set in the google slides? Do you have it as anyone with the link? Also do you have anyone with the link can view, edit, or comment? I would think it would have to be edit since the students are dragging and dropping items.
If you share through google classroom, it doesn't matter what your share settings are. GC will take care of that. Just make sure you make a copy for each student. You don't need it to be set to edit because you still don't want anyone editing your original if you were to share it (for example, with a colleague).
I am looking for " how to "move pieces in a google slide, and your video was just cut off, I think just before where maybe it was pertaining to my difficulty. My activity seems like the one that you presented in the beginning of this clip, putting items where they belong, "is it a computer, or not a computer" I am not versed in computers, and would love if you be able to help. Thank you
When you want to sort the items, you click on them and move them around. It’s the same way as when you are placing the items in the slide to begin with so I actually did show it in the video. I hope that helps!

Jen Kumar yes. Google slides does not have a way to automatically grade. I mention that in the beginning.
