@@robertomonina599 The Busoni version is great, but it's a flashy virtuosic piece that's highly difficult, out of reach for most players, and not quite as true to the original source material. I think Hall's transcription very nicely fills a valuable niche.

I'm one of those purists who much prefer Bach's keyboard works played on harpsichord rather than piano. I wasn't even aware that any of his organ works had been transcribed for piano - a very questionable enterprise, in my view! But faced with a performance like this, purism takes a back seat indeed. Wonderful stuff!

Been searching around for piano transcription of this. Imslp.org has several copyright free versions, including busoni and tausig which are strictly virtuoso arrangements. Cory's version is playable by intermediate to advanced pianists, IMHO, but is very playable with some work. Palmer has a slightly easier version of the toccata (Alfred) but neglects the fugue. I purchased from Cory's website and what you see here in Cory's execution of the work is exactly as written in his sheets. Vvg

it only makes sense to play it fast on a piano where sound quickly suffocates. The organ gives the player the possibility to make the audience really feel the basses on their chests and the trebles in their noses, leaving room to screw with their blood pressure and to set the route of an emotional trip completely guided by the organist. The organist becomes bach himself. No study or academic shit is involved. lol
