Dear Potter's Pink, I remember when we first met. I thought you were beautiful and offered you a drink of water but you refused to come out to play. I was sad we didn't get to know each other. I still think you are lovely. Fondly, T. Grey
Potter’s Pink used dilutely is like a granulation medium, I use it to add texture all the time in the most unexpected mixes. My favourite colour to mix it with is indanthrone blue
Thanks for info,I’m gonna try it.Indanthrone blue is one of my favourite blues, just ordered potters pink and can’t wait to play around with it..thanks for suggestion, definitely will try it out ASAP 🤗💐🍀
The color spotlight is back! A real favorite! I have both W&N and a Daniel Smith potter's pink. I enjoy working with W&N but had nothing but problems with DS. It was hard, heavily separated from the binder and it became the only professional paint I've thrown away. Love this episode!
I bought it to paint a pig originally then had no use for it until I went on vacation to Mesa, Arizona and realized potter’s pink was all over the place. Depending on where you live it might be a great landscape color. I also used it in a mix with quinacridone coral for a scarlet ibis and adored it as well.
I was looking for this type of comment! I live in southern Nevada and often explore the red rocks, including visiting Utah and Arizona. This color caught my eye because many of the "red rocks" have a lot of pink in them! And the natural granulation goes without saying. Potters Pink and the Perylene Violet make the exact color of many of the shadows of the red rocks. I'm curious about trying the Daniel Smith version.
Yay, potter's pink! I've been absolutely obsessed with this color for a couple of weeks now, it's amazing ❤️ it's so gorgeous used with a cobalt turquoise type hue.
Thanks for getting the Color Spotlights going again. I really like them and find them very educational. Love your little piggy! He's just right for this color. The color is interesting. I like it. It's kind of brownish pink. Don't quite know what I'd use it for - maybe on tree trunks where the bark has peeled away. I do a lot of florals and trees. I sure hope you are doing well. I keep you on my prayer list. God bless, dear Denise.
Oh my gosh, a new episode, yay!! Honestly, thank you so much for all the information, work and passion you have put into your videos over the years. I've learned so much from your swatch with me and colour spotlight series as well as your skillshare classes, and am finally about to buy my own palette of professional paints. So thank you for all the beautiful videos and the education. (I also enjoy watching them because watching watercolour flow is a great visual stim for a lil neurodivergent bean such as me haha!) Also, those vibrant orange mixes look perfect for some of the roof tiles in eastern Europe!
I’ve been waiting for potters pink for what seems like forever. Thank you for taking us on this color adventure. I have never realized how much darker the Schmincke version was. I’m glad you’re feeling a little bit better!
I finally got around to enjoy this beautiful video! I remember buying potters pink by schmincke and trying it out for the first time. I used it for skin and hair at that time to let the hue shine, but ultimatly I prefer brighter pinks as stand-alones. My Potters pink now is in my palettes for its mixing and granular properties, and I really love using it! Just recently I painted a dragon's scale with a mix of PY150 and PR233, which turned into a great granular and dusky gold that I completely fell in love with.
A very welcome addition to this series! I've never really liked/understood this pigment because of how soft and transparent it is, so I'm pretty happy to see you share some of its strengths
Your little pig is adorable. I thought the dragons were cute too. I’ve never used Potters Pink but it’s a lovely color and since I’m addicted to trying new colors I’ll add it to my someday list. I hope you are doing well and that 2020 just calms down already. It’s been a decade in the past few months.
This looks like it would be a lovely addition to my botanical palette. Most of my mixing occurs on the page so I tend to buy pigments for themselves rather than their potential to mix lots of colors.
I hope you did try it. Mixed with yellows, it gives fantastic golden hues. With reds, it subtly changes the color in a nice way. With blues it becomes grey or purplish according to the percentage of blue.
I love my 1/2 pan of potter’s pink and this cute little piglet is inspiring me to use it more! It’s good that you didn’t push yourself with everything that’s been going on in your personal world. Wonderful job, Denise!
Ohh, I wonder if the W&N swatch was from the dot card I sent you like eleventy-billion years ago... Pretty sure it was on there... At any rate, I still love Potter's Pink, despite the rewetting issue once dried in a pan... I love using it for pinking on the white markings of horses, especially their noses. I mix it with a trace of warmish yellow to brighten it up, and it works really well.
I have often thought I should get this color for portraits, but I have mixed my own "pinks" for so long I just never considered it a necessity. You do make me want to purchase paint! Well Denise I will refrain this time, but it is quite hard! Your demonstration selections are quite lovely and offer just another reason to purchase this color! I still am awed by your knowledge and impressed every time! Thank you for continuing to produce such wonderful video content! I like your piggy!
I bought Potters Pink by Winser & Newton way back in 2009. It looked like the sand on the Pacific beaches as the sun sets in that pink glow. But to this day, I have not found it useful for the type of work I do. My biggest issue, its a pain to rewet. Same with Terre Verte green. I wanted to try the Schmincke because it will rewet well and got a sample. But it looks like dirt with a little pink mixed in. I like the W&N one. So I added enough Glycerin to make it behave more like Sennelier or M Graham. I still have not used it.
Love your little potter's pink piggy! I also love these color spotlight series so much, they're such helpful videos for us pigment nerds, as are Oto Kano's color series. My only quibble has been when you and Oto get to the granulating pigments like these, the infamous "low tinting strength", colors and then mix them on the palette. I completely understand that you do it for consistency for each color, so I'm glad that you briefly showed your initial testing swatch sheet and linked to Liz Steel's page. While I do sometimes mix colors like viridian, potter's pink, lapis lazuli, etc on the palette, the great strength of these colors is how they mix/don't mix on the page, i.e. the way they intermingle with other pigments on the page without losing their color and gorgeous granulating characteristics. Watercolorists who want bright colors for their style of painting may not enjoy these colors, but they are awesome for loose painting, landscapes and urban sketching. I've never used the Schmincke version before (enjoy the DS version), but it looks like a very versatile version of Potter's Pink so I'm looking forward to adding it to my palette.
I went and bought a halfpan each of Schmincke and W&N, and the W&N rewets easily! Perhaps not As good as the Schminke one, but not That far off. I know their tube formulas are different though, so I can only speak for the pan version. The color also seems darker than yours, Denise. Like a middle thing between your W&N sample and the Schminke one (Edit: That seems to only be on some papers, on others they are virtually indistinguishable). Thought maybe this info could benefit someone! ☺️
I recently purchased Schmincke's Potter's Pink because of one of your videos and a few days ago my boyfriend asked me to paint a dragon for him, so coincidentally your video comes just at the right time! Thanks!
These mixes are stunning! i prefer to mix my potters pink with indanthrone for a combo with blu, mostly because i adore those warmer tones, but this one is also beautiful!
YAY! You're back :3 I'm happy to know you are feeling better! I hope you continue to feel better. You are awesome! Also, when you said "the first half of 2020" it really hit me hard. We're almost into June! O_O Exciting, but it feels like it's going by so fast. Well, I loved your Potter's Pink color spotlight and your little pig came out super cute. Have a great day!
to be very honest, i have always been intrigued by this color but due to the cost of schmincke in my country, I could not justify buying a tube but those mixes look very lovely so maybe in the future, i guess i'll try it some time :) Note: I'm gonna be anticipating the roman szmal paints review. idk for some reason i just think they're fancy and I wanna know how you like them and how they compare with other brands but still, no rush. Thank you for always giving us the great content :)
The Roman Szmal paints are wonderful, I've collected 48 so far since watering Oto Kano! I can't wait to see Denise's review of them too. If you are thinking of trying some I think you will be very happy with them.
Looooove this series! Thank you so much! One of my favourite potters pink mixes is: Winsor Newton Potters Pink + Daniel Smith Cobalt Teal Blue, absolutely love, do try if you can!
Your videos always get me so excited about pigments and paint, thank you for yet another great one! I've been trying to get my hands on this colour for MONTHS, but it is always sold out in all my local art stores!
I have a DS version and there's s much binder. :/ Never knew what to do with this color. But I've been searching for some color to paint the sand stone so many building here in Germany are made of, so thank you for this suggestion!
Just got a tube of this today, so your presentation was very helpful, thanks! I'd heard its granulation was ideal for creating sand and various other uses.
I love potters pink. It looked like you had some beautiful colors mixed with it but it was very difficult to see from the angle of the camera toward the paper. I think an overhead setup would be better to let us see the mixing of the colors together and the beautiful granulation that’s occurs. Nonetheless, thank you for highlighting this amazing color!
I love love love my Schmincke potter's pink! I do find that if left on my palette for too long, it is harder to rewet, unless it gets a good soak for about 15 minutes before use. But it's a glorious tone for landscapes when mixed with others to add a bit of visual texture/variety and neutralize colors..not in a boring way.
I’ve used Daniel Smith’s Potter’s Pink for a while on its own, but I hadn’t really considered its applications in a mix. Thank you for the informative video (as always!)
For a comparative granulating pink, I really like Daniel Smith's English Red Earth (not to be confused with English Red Ochre)-it's a series one colour, so one of the most affordable in the Daniel Smith line; It's an earth pink closer to that first W&N swatch but with more body, it's opaque, lifting, on the low-tinting side but not wicked-witch-melts-away-in-water level of low-tinting, it's not nearly as granulating as PR233 of course but once I squeezed out the massive centimeter in-tube "binder split" and got past the PR101 drying shift...I just really like it, as a muted "vintage pastel" mixer, and in blushes for stylized painterly portraits. I'll definitely try it on architecture, once it's safe to go out urban sketching again!
I have always thought this color was a bit unimpressive whenever I've tried it but the granulation is actually really nice and I could see adding it to a color to add that heavy granulation effect.
Gosh Denise, would have loved to have sent you the Dan Smith Potters pink for this video. I don’t know if it is just my tube of the DS Potters pink but I didn’t care for it. It is very gelatinous out of the tube since the binder had separated from the pigment and my poured pans of it is very hard to rewet. I bought the Schmincke version and find it easier to rewet and use. The Winsor and Newton version looks light and lovely! I wonder if it’s easy to rewet and work with, need to give it a go. Thanks Denise!
I didn’t see the point of potter’s pink until I watched this, then I bought it and omg it might be my new fave color! I kind of want to buy 2 more tubes! It looks lovely with absolutely everything and the granulation is so gorgeous, I’m obsessed.
Thank you so much for posting today my (now 7) yr old son has been asking for your color spotlight videos and today is his bday so it was so great to show him a new video today!!!
Awww that's so sweet! I'm so glad he likes them and that the timing worked out. It was supposed to be out Friday but took me a while to edit. I guess there was as a reason for that! Happy Birthday to him! I hope you both have a good day today.
I was thinking on what to comment and now I'm absolutely distracted by this 5 min ad. It's.. absolutely insane and I can't look away. My poor brain is just fried. Ahem, pink. I've never thought to use this one before, I wasn't sure what I could use it for, but I feel like I may pick up a tube at some point just to have on hand for mixing to dull some more vibrant colors since those Phthalo mixes were amazing. Loved the little piggy!
Oh no! Thank you for watching the ad but don't feel like you need to subject yourself to that especially now. Things are way to insane in real life haha.
@@InLiquidColor Oh I was entranced and mesmerized. I kept wondering what nonsense I was gonna see next. I mean it was bad informercial meets art meets memes and I just could not look away. Once the lady smeared her entire paint palette on the canvas like she was insane I was hooked and had to see how it ended.
I live daily with bipolar depression disorder, anxiety, PTSD and BPD. Even though I don’t know specifically what you go through, I can say I know the struggles are tough. But we’re artists and understand the healing powers that come through our creativity. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. They’re spoken clearly and full of knowledge. I’m used to working mainly with acrylic and oils, so I get rather confused at times about color numbers and such. I’m going to do some binging on your videos and learn from, who I feel, is the best watercolor mage 🧙♀️ on RUclips. Bright blessings 🌸
I have PP in my palette after taking a course from Liz Steel and really like its granulating properties. However, I have the WN brand and it dries up so quickly in my palette, and it takes quite a bit of effort to pull enough pigment into the brush to get any color from it. After this I will definitely try to do a page of swatches to see if I can duplicate your results, and maybe come up with other combinations and applicaitons!!! Appreciate all of your hard work in doing these spotlights---saves me paper:)!!!
I have two potter's pink, one from Renesans and one from Schminke. While I love Renesans generally for the gorgeous shiny colours, their version is horrible lol :D Schminke is beautiful.
You know what, Denise? There are worse things in the world than making yourself happy with a cute little piglet. Predictable? Maybe. But so what? you're talented and sometimes talent means recognizing when something feels forced vs something feeling right. He's a sweet little adorable guy. Good for you. -Adeline
This is not a color I've liked because of its granulation. Any idea if there is one that does not granulates so heavily? I still plan to get the W&N one because it is such a pretty shade. But I don't foresee myself using it much. With the type of art I make (outside of RUclips) I need very very smooth paints.
Your nails match the color perfectly! (lol). Truly though, I have this color in a Winsor & Newton sample palette of 15 paints I got off of Etsy. I was wondering what I was going to do with it. I have a few ideas now (if not for the mixing advantage)
Are you psychic?? I was just reading those exact blogs trying to decide if I should buy some Potter's Pink. Loved this video. I'd like to buy Winsor and Newton's version but I'm not sure if the tubes would dry and reactivate well if poured into a pan. Also, I really appreciate this series. I also check here whenever I feel like buying new colors.
Glad you like the color! I'm not sure how handmade versions rewet. I assume that big brands have a lot of tools available to them and that they're still hard to rewet for a reason! That being said, Schmincke's reactivates great if you haven't tried it.
Besides selling the pigments to make potters pink, Kremer also sells premade pans of their own potters pink mix. I havent tried it yet, but you may want to check that one out!
As usual, robust research with informative comparisons and mix notes. I always learn something with these Spotlights. Thanks Denise!
Thanks Steve! There was a lot of research on my part for this one too! Quite a unique pigment!
I love you both ❤️

Wonderful video! I absolutly love the combination of Potters pink with Sap green and Turquoise. Thank you so much for sharning :)
The combo with phthalo blue reminds me vaguely a bit of shadow violet or moonglow towards the potter's pink end. Super pretty!

Thanks Kashfia! I have heard all of those things about DS's version, which is why I don't own it ;)
Wow. I'm convinced! Especially by that first mix with the PY53
Thank you for sharing your hard work with us Denise. Piggy was cute.
I have Daniel Smith's version and love it!
You've made me look at this colour in a whole new way. Thank you. :-)
Happy to help!
Hey I love these color spotlights!!!
I want this color!
@@InLiquidColor OMGosh thank you so much!! And honestly we are just happy you are feeling well enough to get back to your love of art!
Thank you! Now, I know which shade I want!!
@@faylinne3132 hahaha wow!
Potters pink piggy is perfect ♥♥♥
The Saturn Red mix would be great for adding depth & variety to Vermont fall foliage
Loooooove those muted colors!!!
I have two potter's pink, one from Renesans and one from Schminke. While I love Renesans generally for the gorgeous shiny colours, their version is horrible lol :D Schminke is beautiful.
This is also the perfect color to paint earth worms. 😊
*recently added this DS pigment to my kit...which is still comparably small but i'm selecting shades as i can afford them*
You know what, Denise? There are worse things in the world than making yourself happy with a cute little piglet. Predictable? Maybe. But so what? you're talented and sometimes talent means recognizing when something feels forced vs something feeling right. He's a sweet little adorable guy. Good for you. -Adeline
I just recently found your channel and I love your videos 😍
Welcome!
I love this! He's so adorable! This was at the beginning of the pandemic. 😪
I love the piglet!
8:45 that dragon got some nice legs though
Pretty. May pick some up.
Love your video :) And I need Potters Pink now haha
Oh, oh, oh so wonderful!!!!
Which Potters pink did you prefer and is that what you used for the pig?
You are a good painter.
Hola; fantástico, muchas gracias!.
Omg! That's gourgous!!!
Hi what Schmincke Horadam color would you say is closest to Light Red in the W&N range? Thank you!
Yayyy,my fav color^^BTW I'm thinking about making my own potters pink(since the tubes are too hard to activate)What do you think?
Glad you like the color! I'm not sure how handmade versions rewet. I assume that big brands have a lot of tools available to them and that they're still hard to rewet for a reason! That being said, Schmincke's reactivates great if you haven't tried it.
Besides selling the pigments to make potters pink, Kremer also sells premade pans of their own potters pink mix. I havent tried it yet, but you may want to check that one out!
Love this colour! i have the WN and the Schmincke brand. it's great for mixing.
