In Italy you can now buy an old house in a small southern town for just 1 euro with the pact of renewing it. The best is to be just retired and still in form...then you can live the sweet life. In big cities it's not the same...
I enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing. Your one on the breakdown of day to day costs was helpful. I am really having trouble finding info on the cost of the move itself specifically the cost of health insurance during the between time of permanent residency. Yes not a fun topic but necessary.
Enjoyed your video and shared perspective..we are trying to get "Back to Sicily" with a 5th grader and a 3rd grader...I'm looking for leads/insights into the best way to get the children to learn the language (sink or swim) in the shortest amount of time...I really want to avoid the international (English-oriented) school scene...any thoughts/suggestions? Most RUclips travel oriented channels are at the extremes of the 20/30-something beachgoing-camping-live-while you're-young camp and the other is the retiree group. You're the first one that I'm hearing who may have moved to Italy with elementary/high school age children!
I live in New Mexico so I was excited to hear about your life over in Italy. I’ve lived in other states but NM has always been home to me. I’m not sure if it’s the history or culture that brings me back. I’m a history buff so I would think that living in Europe might be the same for me as like Disneyland as you said. Thanks for your report.
Did you say what city where you live? I would love to hear more about your experience about relocating instead of how you feel about it. Thank you taking the time.
All of the so called "corny" sayings are said because they're true, "you only live once", "work to live not live to work", "you'll never work a day in your life if you do what you love" and many more. Europe in general is a different lifestyle, it's not for everyone, if it were there would be no room for those of us who love it.
I love living in the mountains but I'm wondering how cold it gets in your region of Southern Italy? Do you need central heat during the winters? And how hot does it get in summer?
I couldn't move to Italy now unless I was self-employed. The country keeps letting people in, but there are very few jobs for their own. So many young people, even with college, degrees have no jobs.
The legality of renewing your stays after three months for another one or two times are much easier in smaller cities I guess my 13 months experience can testify that!
I've watched a few of these from your channel as I've lived other places in the world and I find myself skipping through to find more details on cost of living, difficulty of the residency process, employment, learning the language and so on. Italy had initially been in the news about number of cases of Covid19, when that started, so it would have been good to hear her comment on that instead of talking about how nice the food is or that they led a stressful working life in America. Her story is not much different than many others who would view these so it becomes boring and an echo of the stories of others before as we all know that. I will suggest real information of those logistical and cultural questions everyone seeking a better place would want to know. Maybe a shorter video organized by asking the person to give relevant details that will entice the viewer to delve deeper. I like the idea of your channel but there's just no real content when these expats talk.
Hi Pete, Valerie, and our other correspondents and editors, have recorded videos about COVID-19. Here’s an example from Valerie last month: ruclips.net/video/xKRlu8SxeDQ/видео.html. They’ve also provided regular updates on our Facebook page and on the IL website. The “Why I Moved” videos are part of a live series we’re running on our main page at the moment. If you scroll back through our videos, you can find more information on recommended retirement destinations, cost of living information, etc. Or check out our website. For example: internationalliving.com/countries/italy/cost-of-living-in-italy/ But we will be breaking this information (cost of living, visa, etc.) up into shorter more in-depth videos in the future. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. One suggestion though. Try not to lower the tone of your voice so much because it is very difficult to hear for more than 5 minutes.
¡ like italy but the freedom and life environment ¡ find in madrid ¡ don't find anywhere.., at any moment, at any time.,. night routines, daily routines, you're own path.., no one looks at you weird, you are one more,..
Would you please talk about How you were initially able to stay there for one year in terms of the visa and other legalities?
Thank you fior sharing I totally I agree with you in all you said. We are considering retiring in Italy.
Visa isn’t easy. How did you guys go around that

Which town in New Mexico? I lived in Cuba (NM) for 5 years, I love N.M.!

Basilicata is cold in winter and not too hot in summer.
Where in Italy did you move to?
What part are yoy living in?

Congratulations!! :)
Jolly interesting such a nice lady grazie ciao
You made a good choice...
How was the whole process? How did you stay a year if Americans allowed to stay 3 month. I would love to live in Italy but so afraid to move.
if you afraid don't move )

If you continue this series in 20 years you can show: Why I moved to Mars.
