  • As we conclude this phenomenal series “After the Rose” on this Palm Sunday, Dr. Conway Edwards expounds on the phrase "from this day forward". Especially, because we made this covenant before God and man in marriage. He gives us a heart and mind changing charge to see marriage the way Jesus wants us to see it.

I was in the service in-person and it was difficult to sit through the message. I am not married and haven't been, but I have had relatives that have been in marriages to people that were liars, cheaters, and physical, mental, and sexual abusers. Also they showed favortism and mistreatment to children. I don't think God would want someone to stay married if these things are going on. I don't understand why the pastor didn't explain this, because this will lead people to think that they should stay in relationships like this or just marry someone because they have kids with them and they no the person isn't good to be with.

Thank you for sharing your view of today’s sermon. Pastor was showing what the high view of marriage looks like and it is difficult to explain all of the nuances in one setting. At anytime if you would like to have a conversation with one of our pastors we would consider it an honor. We do want to affirm that there should be a time of separation for the couple that is experiencing any type of abuse in their marriage. During this time apart a mentor or counselor should be heavily involved with the hope of the couple finding a healthy restoration. If that is not possible, then they should seek the elders and legal team of that church to see if there is a pathway for biblical divorce. The message reinforces God’s high view of marriage and our culture’s low view of marriage with the overarching theme of the work that should be done as singles to be healthy believers so that if God sees fit for them to marry they have a heavenly perspective of what marriage is and should represent. Pastor said he is now challenging everyone who knows Jesus as their Lord and Savior, “that this day forward”, they should have a high view of marriage. Thank you again for sharing.

Amen! So many pastors miss this critical message and this enables men to continue to abuse women and this is NOT okay! Most women don’t just leave a marriage because they just changed their minds. Most have put up with abuse for years and have tried everything they know! This just further enables abuse to continue!

You are bound as long as your first spouse lives... you can separate. But you are bound.
Yes, the abused should seek help and leave.
