@@AmazingKKDaily I have a few, most like chisels and punches I made myself from coil spring. Have a grinder, a gas forge, hammers make my own tongs. But I admire this blacksmith what he can so with minimal tools. A real craftsman.
In another video he went to the capital to find a belt sander but no store had it and it's very expensive. A few hundred usd. As for the epoxy idk if that's hard to get or expensive.
My guess would be the source of the metal, some items are more commonly made with high carbon steel than others. But he does use an angle grinder to take off the scale, which unless I am mistaken (totally possible, I've only been smithing for 9 months) could be used as a spark test. high carbon will produce lots of "crows feet", lower carbon items will not.
You can do a quench test too - I think he demonstrates in another video. Basically, a small piece of steel is heat treated and snapped to see if it hardens.
If you spark test your material prior to forging by putting it on a grinder you can tell by observing the sparks if it high carbon. High carbon steel will have sparks that have exploding ends. Low carbon steel won’t. Cast iron hardly sparks at all, wrought iron has very dull sparks Best thing to do is to try known steel like a File ( high carbon) or Horse shoe ( low carbon) and observe the sparks. Also what the material started out as is a good indicator. Hinges are Not made out of High Carbon steel and you can see that when he uses the angle grinder on his blade...it’s mild steel. Not suitable for a real knife, that’s OK because his hardening / tempering method of dribbling water along the edge is just goofy nonsense anyway. Not surprising since in my experience most of these type of knives are very soft I was a professional ‘Smith for many years making both knives and forge welded axes by hand
I see you took down the other kukri video, nice work on this new one. Looks just like a real kukri! I think you should repost the old video with a new title. Don't let it die!
For me , this video is a bit too quick. I've made kukri's quite successfully, by similar methods and tend to struggle to get the bend in and right. You didn't show it well in this one KK. I absolutely love the videos from this outstanding smith every time though.

I could watch this guy all day. There’s so much to learn from him, maybe the biggest lesson is that tools are secondary to experience and knowledge.

you could make a belt sander, and use epox glue on the handles of your knives

I just want to know how HE knows that the steel he uses is able to harden.
Much love from Germany 👍❤️
