- [EN] Forging a MACHATANA out of Old Concrete Iron
In this video, I show you how I forge a machatana. I chose to make a sandwich out of old 15N20 rebar and the blade core out of high-carbon rail. I had a lot of fun forging this Katana, which has a very particular style... I love the blade with its nickel line that makes super waves, the cutting edge has a high carbon content and cuts like a razor. I love giving new life to old scrap metal by transforming it into a beautiful object! I've learned a lot forging this great Katana, and I hope you'll learn as much as I did when you watch the video!
Do not hesitate to leave me comments. See you soon for a new knife project!

Very very cool build😎

it's a "blessed" blade of Nurgle
🙏🙏🙏😊
cool
Thanks 😊
first time watcher, now subbed. I love the way you could see the heat soak out of the metal when the hydraulic press was giving it the first few rounds of squidging.
quick question though, when you were using the dremmel type rotary thing on the edge, why was the metal turning milky? I'm guessing heat, but it looked like frost!
Awesome job btw. Finished article looked immense.
thank you very much 🙏 the white color comes from the fact that I had put a shot of iron perchloride on it when heated it becomes white.
awesome damascus sword
Thank you very much 🙏🙏🔥
Well amazing
Thanks 🙏🙏🔥
Le chef a encore frappé magnifique
J adore la lame
Fait tu des promotion pour les agriculteurs ?😂
Merci encore
Honestly, it looks like the Chinese Song dynasty Horse Cutting Sabre, or as I call it, a Horse Chopper, just without the handguard and ring pommel
ok, I'll look at that 👍
C'est cool comme sabre ça !!!! Bravo. 😀
Merci beaucoup c'est gentil 😊🙏🙏🔥
New believable orc sword dropped
👍
Your drilling skills is excellent 👌
Thank you very much, it’s a pleasure ☺️
More of a custom Japanese NATA chopping tool than a katana, but still well made
yes it’s an inspiration in total improvisation
I like the video lots there is just one problem you did not use a lubricant when you drilled the holes where the handle was going to go so the drill bits were burning and causing the smoke because of the friction 😢
it is precisely the cutting oil that is smoking 😉
seems like this is going to be a heavy front balanced blade
yes it looks pretty good to me. I should have Doug Marcaida try it 😊
😮 🔝
☺️🙏🙏🔥
Reminds me a lot of some of the swords from kenshi
👍
I'm guessing the blade is too heavy for the handle design that's why you held it with two hands. Still love the blade though, awesome work🥰
thank you very much, that's nice! the blade is not heavy, it is very fine with its hollow grinds. it can easily be held in one hand. 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥
If I had a spring from a truck, I would cut a similar cleaver out of it with a grinder and then sharpen it
if you have a scrap dealer near you you should go and see because you can often find them there
If Machete suddenly time travel to the past in Japan.
🔥
More like China
That a great looking blade, is there a sword of a similar design?
thank you very much I don't believe it exists this one came straight from my imagination
@@boulderdashforge👍
Before sharpening, you should have leveled and corrected the edges, and later on, you should increase the sharpness of Damascus steel with several steps, so that this beautiful work can be compared with the best despite all this effort.
ok I'll try that, do you have a video to recommend so I can see that?
@@boulderdashforge I recommend that you bring the blade to the peak of the edge correction before the hardening process, and using the Japanese method and creating more carbon on the edge and protecting the back of the blade from carbonization and more heat, create a spring texture that can withstand impact. The same sharpness and smoothness to spread the wave resulting from the blows along the length of the blade and prevent the blade from breaking. For this purpose, the Japanese use the center of the blade from soft steel and the sides from steel with extremely hard capabilities. In front of the impact, it looks great, but since you don't have the necessary materials to imitate the Japanese blade, or it may be expensive, so you have to do it with alloy steels, so that the normal texture in the middle and the steels Use the sides from the order of alloy steel, with this the result will be almost the same, but you need to allocate more time to correct the edges and use the manual method so that the blade does not suffer from spot burns and is resistant to impact. It requires a lot of trial and error to be able to create an excellent and high-quality Damascus blade, but the result will be really wonderful, as a result, you will have a blade that cuts the bone like a cutter.
Whatch this

@@realgallantful Okay now I see what you want to tell me, thank you very much for this clarification. One day I will take the time to make a real katana and I will push perfection to its maximum....
@@boulderdashforge Excellent, but I meant making the best quality Damascus blade, not making a samurai sword, the Damascus blade is also excellent, sharp, and beautiful, you can use the same technique in making Damascus steel and achieve an excellent result.
@@realgallantful good idea 👍👍👍
I think you should call it the “Ork-Splitter”
yes it's not bad I like the idea 👍
lol. concrete iron from reinforced concrete block. english so weird :)
Is it possible to call this thing a "reinforcement rod" or something like that?
However, you made a nice machete. I like it
Thank you. In my country, we call it a concrete iron, but a reinforcing rod also works.
i thought matchakatana at firts😂
😂😂😂👍
TRADE YA FOR ONE OF MY AXE HANDLES🤷🏻♂️🤔👍🏼
no problem come to my workshop with your ax handle 😉
@@boulderdashforge IM IN MEXICO THO😁. I'LL FIND YOU ON INSTAGRAM...... I HAVE A COUPLE YOU MIGHT FANCY 🤔👍🏼
That particular style is called a golok machete, or a war golok due to the clipped off point...
I didn't know the golok machete 👍. I just looked at him and I don't think he looks like him. it's certainly something between the machete and the katana I did it in total improvisation
@@boulderdashforge well none the less... it does look pretty nice.. sturdy too...
Need to get a bunch of larger bamboo and rattan canes and see how it handles cutting those...
@@mckutzy exactly I had the same idea I spotted a corner with large bamboos I am thinking of recovering some. with its hollow grind it hits hard on impact 👍
What steel used on center?
railway rail.high carbon, hardness 63hrc
@@boulderdashforge ok thanks
@@theman4908 no problem 😊
What steel in middle??
it's railway track
@@boulderdashforge tq bro
This man could teach a cross-peen class to the people on Forged in Fire! (Seems 80% of the smiths on that can't use one!)
thank you, that’s nice of you 🙏🙏🙏😊🔥
Your forging Machatana is San mai, But that is awesome and nice pretty work, Your Machatan is beautiful and razor sharp.
thank you very much that's nice of you 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥
It's just a machete you use to cut vines in the forest.
it literally destroys everything in its path 👍👍👍
Tip looks like it was broken.
I think it gives it a great look
El arma definitiva ?
Tal vez
quién sabe...
🤔
short sword or long knife no sutch word as mashet
It’s a machatana, I invented it!
theres something in between that looks like not "concrete iron"
everything is explained in the description 👍
But the real question, can it be used by a grandpa to kill the devil?
Of course 👍
@@boulderdashforge then it is a fine Machete!
Handsome blade, but this is a cleaver, not a katana
Thanks 👍
its a real beauty but its not a katana.
thank you very much 🙏 yes it’s an inspiration in total improvisation 😉
Long and wide with no tip and a... knife handle? Hate to tell you this, but a katana it is not. Probably dead choppy, though.
yes it’s an inspiration in total improvisation
Sorry, but this blade is not a katana or a interbetation that’s in my eys a big tunaknife to kutting tunfish
don't be sorry I put this title just for RUclips SEO
Definitely Not a Katana.
yes it's an inspiration between the katana and the machete in total improvisation... the title is just for RUclips referencing 😉
It's not a Katana, it's a Machete!..🤦♂🤦♂👎👎🤣🤣
Ah OK ! Thanks for the clarification, I was just wondering that.👍👍👍🙏🙏🔥
Deseo tu felicidad. Saludos cordiales Rémi
Disgusting
Cool 😊
Sweet lord that is beautiful! Im liking and subscribing
Thank you very much 🙏🙏🔥 😊
Did you not think the heat treatment would put the natural curve in for you? Instead of forcing a less natural curve. Just asking, still love it.
Thanks, I don't think, the height the blade is too great for it to bend.
@boulderdashforge Thanks. It's still bloody brilliant though. I want one 😂
@@ohforgodsake8486 with pleasure I also deliver internationally 😉
@@boulderdashforge Grazie, vado a vedere cos'è.
It's called rebar and it's mild steel, not suitable for a sword. Get it together.
yes it's done on purpose it's sandwich steel the high carbon steel is in the center for a razor sharp. mild steel gives flexibility to the blade.
First thing I thought of was Kenshi
yes why not it was totally improvisation
@@boulderdashforge it does looks like the long cleaver from the game kenshi
@@smarttarded ok I don't know I'm going to look at that 👍
