I like that you display the different tobaccos blends as you discuss the different types of tobaccos. It helps when deciding on which product to buy. I've tried Captain Black Copper. Nice flavor and a cloud of enjoyable smoke.
Pipes and Cigars is the only pipe and cigar website I order from I actually purchased Old German Clay Pipes and then I had ordered pipe cleaners and pipe tobacco from there and always getting Cavendish Tobacco from P&C.
Russ, I just got some Black Cavendish from P&C and I really enjoy the flavor. Thanks for your videos. I am learning a lot about tobacco that I never knew before. I thought the black would be too moist but, I have found out through my first couple of bowls that I was thankfully mistaken.
Hey guys - I assumed Latakia stayed lit well like Dark Fired does. But I heard Russ say on the Fokker Show that Latakia blends are tough to keep lit. So does Latakia usually burn well or not.
+sabresswords If you’re referring to traditional Cavendish, look for ribbons that are pressed together like a broken flake. That means that the tobaccos has been pressed before cutting, and that’s the sign of a true traditional Cavendish.
I was wondering if some one could help me, i bought some Sutliff Chocolate Mousse from pipes&cigars. And i can see very little crystals in it. If i hold it up at the right angle and light you can see what look's like very little crystals. What are they? and is it ok to smoke? It's a cavendish tobacco.
+M babz Chocolate Mousse is a steamed black Cavendish. It's made by toasting the tobacco after it has been sweetened. After that, it's steamed for about 24 hours along with flavoring. There's sugar used in the process. That's what the crystals are - small particles of undissolved sugar.Russ
+CI Pipe Thx Russ, one more thing, i'm looking for a low nicotine tobacco. On pipes&cigars they have a rating of strength, low to high, are they talking about the nicotine level?
+Pipes and Cigars.com I appreciate the answer. I assume most Cavendish utilizes burley tobacco, but I know that VA is also used. I just wonder? Is there a predominance of either used as the unsweetened Cav? Obviously, as I type this I think that VA is naturally sweet, and I imagine that toasting might reduce nicotine in burley?
+dyskover If the unsweetened black Cavendish is produced in the US, it is likely made of Burley. If it’s made in Europe, it’s probably Virginia-based. The toasting is done at lower temps for a long period of time, so it has a nominal effect on the nicotine content.
Not trying to be overly obvious, but black Cavendish is black in color and regular Cavendish generally isn't. As far as true Cavendish vs. flavored tobacco goes, you can tell by whether some of the ribbons are stuck together in small chunks. If they are, you have a true, traditional Cavendish.
I've watch most if not all of this Series. Thank you much for making this Series.

Ha!
Does anybody know how Cavendish is flavored or what they steam into it to flavor it.
Cavendish the Maduro process of Cigars
Russ how can you tell the difference between real or fake Cavendish in a blend?

+Pipes and Cigars.com thanks! I'll keep my eyes out.
That pipe keeps popping up in the videos, I’m curious if anybody can tell me what it is? Very stylish!

+M babz Yes, that's an indicator spice, which is caused by nicotine content. -Russ
Can you tell 'us' what unsweetened black cavendish is?
+dyskover Unsweetened black Cavendish is toasted, but not steamed or flavored.
+Pipes and Cigars.com I appreciate the answer. I assume most Cavendish utilizes burley tobacco, but I know that VA is also used.

+Pipes and Cigars.com Hmmmn. Now to ascertain the tasteless (ha ha) differences.
Thanks for your answers, Russ!
I prefer black plain Cavendish tobaccos.
Deepchord brought me here.
Informative, yet, not very informative. How can we tell one from another? I'm still blind.

@@russouellette515 Thank you clearing that up for me Russ. Any suggestions for examples of true unflavored Cavendish I can add to some of my blends?
