Yea dude for sure. This big video game corporation remaking a game out of the goodness of their hearts and not at all for profit that they will bring in by changing some models.
The original game was a graphical and visual achievement. Consider that it was running at 960 x 544p by the time, with a huge anti alising effect countering the low res edges. The in-game visual effects regarding wind, illumination and rendering distance are insane, and you can tell that most of the tech performance was applied there, sacrificing the texture quality in many areas.
Yeah it looks like it could just work like this. Giving more audiences a chance to experience it is good. Was a bit odd to see the character models lacking in detail but then the price is great so I’ll give them my support. If rumors are true and this whole move spins a true next gen sequel in the works then I say let Alan Wake’s torch shine onto the page.
Well, so far looks very underwhelming. Yes, there're assets of a higher quality, but it doesn't really add anything meaningful to the presentation, does not refresh the look of the game in a good way. What's worse, the tone mapping of the game seems to be changed from greyish palette to brownish one, this is especially apparent on the shots 2:09 and 4:54. This just changes atmosphere and not for the better. :( Remasters like that are not needed.

This feels more like an HD version instead of remastered?? Still really hyped though, I played it on my 360 back in the day, but now i have a PS4 so i am really happy to go back! Cheers
What are you talking about? Not only are the textures completely new but so are the character models. The faces are drastically different and seem to have slightly different animations. Most importantly though the lighting engine seems to have a complete overhaul. Given the games mechanics revolve around the lighting I think it'll look drastically different during gameplay. Also it seems to be in 60fps.
even tho remastered is sharper everywhere, original hasa1d more cinematic approach and I personally would like something like remaster + original, specifically the character alan wake itself
They completely changed to tint and color palette from the original. The side-by-side shot of Bright Falls says it all. The town used to look almost dream-like, unnerving, sickly feeling…and with the towering, foreboding mountain on the shadowy horizon, it sets an uneasy tone for the player…but now it looks like a cute, quaint tiny Northeast town I’d love to visit on vacation.
The game is still gorgeous on PC, butter smooth, but the video sequences were always awful. It looks like they've fixed the FMV's, lots of textures completely recreated, face models reworked, hair changed/updated, light system remade in some way. I feel like a "Remaster" should be built with the newest engine used by Remedy after "Control". Really, I just hope it lives up to the "Remaster" title!! I really enjoyed how the flashlight brought out bright colors on the original game, a shadowy tree would come to life under the light. Whatever lighting system they used seemed unique, in some way. It seems other games, even modern games, the dark is identical to the light areas. Light bouncing has made differences, lately. But, I liked the contrast between dark scenes and the bright flashlight. Hard to explain.
What you want is a remake, not a remaster - This is explicitly just a remaster, which just essentially updates the original with newer fancier stuff. Being rebuilt in a different engine entirely is a remake.
@@silentbobvg games have been remastered by moving it from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4.. This is a game from the same company. A remake is more like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, compared to the OG FF7. The mechanics were too old. Who knows, Alan Wake Remastered may be in the newest engine.
@@LukeHimself Doesn't matter which engine it is in. A newer engine doesn't make a game magically look better, it mostly determines what you can do with the game and how you work with it. A remaster is a type of remake where you're only increasing the fidelity of the existing work. The AW remaster is still built on assets from the old game, with some assets being updated and improved. D3T remastered this game. They've remastered Shenmue 1&2 and Mafia 2. They weren't fantastic! Remasters especially in Mafia 2's case. But I think Remedy would never let them release a unpolished game. I think this will be good.
@Go Eagles Yeah. It wasn't phenomenal. But. At least it was Shenmue 1&2 on modern consoles and it wasn't a bad remaster. It just could of been a little bit more.
@Go Eagles I would blame SEGA for that. The thing about these contract studios is they will happily keep fixing bugs as long as the company will pay them to do it. But a lot of publishers cheap out. They outsource the remaster for the wrong reason. They want it done cheap. The best reason to outsource a remaster is to give the work to a team experienced with that kind of thing. That's what this appears to be. Money is no objection for Epic. So I don't see Remedy and Epic screwing over D3T the way SEGA and Take 2 did in this scenario.
@Go Eagles Yes. They did Mafia 2 also. But it was another case of 2k making them release it early. Well before it was ready for release. But I can say from what I've seen of Mafia 2 Remastered right now. It's in a good state and is quite stable and many of the bugs it had are gone. And if you were to play it on PS5 or Series X, it would definitely be fully locked fps wise. On PC it should be in a very good state also now.
@@1983Dave1983 That's the difference, RE2 was a remake. Dead Space will also be a remake. This remaster is completely pointless on PC. Played the original just a few months ago with unlocked FOV and framerate and ultrawide resolution....it still plays and feels perfect despite being so old (but disable motion blur because it glitches with higher framerates). Remaster on PC makes sense only if they use a better engine and re-make the game.
Now that I have a platinum Control game, the connection to Alan Wake and the release for playstation is like a dream come true, can't wait to play it for the first time...
This reminds me of the Skyrim remastered version. Most people prefer that look over the older one, unlike me. Just like that game, the Alan Wake remaster looks too 'warm'. Just because they can, and they should, increase the texture quality doesn't mean that they should mess with the artistic aspects of the game. I prefer the cold blue-grayish look because it suits the game better.
They changed his face to more accurately look like Ilkka Villi, Alan Wakes visual actor. I don't mind it, it fixes the inconsistency. I question though how they originally failed to properly capture his face. It looks less like him then I remembered.
Less polygons? I dunno, but they missed by a long shot in the OG lol it's making everyone think it looks wrong that don't know what the actual actor looks like - even though the model in this isn't perfect for sure

Better textures, improved polycount on models, improved shaders (water, fog, etc.), added decorative elements. But the faces are not necessarily better. The lighting, composition and blending in some occasions is worse: see 1:18, 1:22, 1:26. Gun and flashlight are controversial. All in all it's fine for an economic remaster.

The bump is resolution and framerate alone is huge for me. Considering I played the 360 version that ran at 540p at 30 fps. Looking foward to running through this gem again on PS5. The more folks that get to play this game the better
It looks good overall but the lighting on his face at a couple of the scenes look worser. Like there's a weird glow just around the eye or a big shadow patch at another.
well they at least remastered one of their gems and not the same flop titles, they realized it! this game was a bomb when it popped out, that atmosphere was catchy
I like what they did here for the most part. Color banding is less obvious now, this alone makes me want to play it again. Just little touches here and there. This game is already good even today.
Thank you guys! So glad the soundtrack is still available to buy at lossless quality too! This is an amazing score piece, I want to cry about it already lol
It's weird that in the remaster Alan's eyes and mouth are lighted but not his cheekbones, something that in the original looks way better. Hope they fix it along with the lipsync from the original
The Game looks much better. But after all these years i was expecting a remake, just like Resident Evil 2 and Dead Space. Alan Wake with controls graphics, and RT would be amazing.
This is a bit disappointing to me. Better color grading and texture mapping do not do that much to enhance the material. And, as is often the case in such generalized "fixing," some things actually look worse. I _love_ *Remedy* and what they did with *Alan Wake,* not to mention their masterpiece, *Control,* but I would have put aside this remaster and concentrated instead on a hybrid sequel, *Wake/Control.* I still hope _this_ project is in the works and actually rather far along.
Idk why It's 60fps lock in series x and 30fps in One X and One. I play it in a GTX 1070 and goes at 144fps locked (for my monitor), it's unaceptable, there's nothing better. It's exactly the same game. Should be running 120fps in Series X (better games do it) and 60 FPS in One.
PC master race will never be happy with anything. This remaster is only $30, you can't expect it to be a complete overhaul. Consider that it was running at 960 x 544p by the time, with a huge anti alising effect countering the low res edges.
The in-game visual effects regarding wind, illumination and rendering distance are insane, and you can tell that most of the tech performance was applied there, sacrificing the texture quality in many areas.
it was not 720p ?!
I was honestly thinking there would be a fresher look using the Control engine. It still looks 2010 with upres and lighting but I’ll take it.
That's because it's based on the original engine. It won't even have Ray Tracing.
"looks 2010 with upres and lighting "
Well, that's actually exactly what it is.
i wouldnt mind the gameplay is still the same not a max payne style
@@Stickend the description on the store lists ray tracing
Yeah it looks like it could just work like this. Giving more audiences a chance to experience it is good. Was a bit odd to see the character models lacking in detail but then the price is great so I’ll give them my support. If rumors are true and this whole move spins a true next gen sequel in the works then I say let Alan Wake’s torch shine onto the page.
Came for a video, but stayed for the music.
BS.
You do realize this is a trailer and not actually direct gameplay.
@@CyborgSodaCollects it’s a video that was made to show the differences between the two versions of the game, of course we would critique the differences
@@VagueNaming it's still a trailer. Which could be doctored trip give a different look than the final game.
5:07 Just look at Alan's eyes and tell me you see the difference. How expressive they were!
Agree! Alan's original face and expressions looked way better in the original in my opinion. I think they were trying to make him resemble his face model, Illka Villi, more in the remaster, but it kinda looks like he's just mad all the time. Lol. He had way more expression in the original.
bad design for sure
3:00 Omg they've changed his face.. 😱😱
Alan hasnt aged a day, still looks like the first time I saw him on the Xbox. How does he do that ?
This feels more like an HD version instead of remastered?? Still really hyped though, I played it on my 360 back in the day, but now i have a PS4 so i am really happy to go back! Cheers
What are you talking about? Not only are the textures completely new but so are the character models. The faces are drastically different and seem to have slightly different animations. Most importantly though the lighting engine seems to have a complete overhaul. Given the games mechanics revolve around the lighting I think it'll look drastically different during gameplay. Also it seems to be in 60fps.
For me it is a true remaster. Not a HD Remaster.
@@PleasantLeech And i am sure you are correct there mate. Don’t get me wrong, I love this game and Remedy, i am really excited nonetheless.
The graphics are remade, not your average HD remastered
even tho remastered is sharper everywhere, original hasa1d more cinematic approach and I personally would like something like remaster + original, specifically the character alan wake itself
Meh. I’ll take the improved lighting and contrast over a tinge of colour that only affects a few scenes.
Different doesn't mean worse.
Mafia 1 "Definitive Edition" was considered a "Remake" and a "Remaster", since the original game was so old that high resolution textures wouldn't make much of a difference.
It is not a full remake.
@@CanIHasThisName You stated the obvious, and already understood.
@@CanIHasThisName I like how you’re forgetting about the crash and Spyro remasters
The taken version of stucky doesnt seem to have the smoke / i always saw it as almost ink floating off his body like in the original? He looks way more like just a normal guy than a taken
Damn you're quick!
Pre-ordered it for PS5 but its very strange that there is a PS5 and a PS4 version... what will be the difference between them? 30fps on ps4 and 60fps on ps5 or just higher resolution on ps5 or maybe only faster loading times on ps5 🧐
Alan Wake now looks more like the one in Control
1:17 what the hell hapened here???
Why do I prefer the original still? Oh well, at least my PlayStation friends can have a go at it.
I'm with you. His new look makes him seem like a different character huh. Also some of the shades looked better before. In my opinion.
Loving the update Alan model, looks like the actor now! I'm sure this is because AW2 they will be the same.
Guys, it's a remaster, not a remake. It's just crispier with slight changes here and there, nothing more
Some people going crazy. RE2 set the standard for remasters. Let's see what Dead Space can do 😁
@@1983Dave1983 That's the difference, RE2 was a remake. Dead Space will also be a remake. Remakes vary from changing the visuals entirely and altering some story aspects, or adding a whole lot of depth and altering the story entirely (ff7 remake). Remasters are slightly touching up textures, lighting, and models with keeping gameplay and the story the same. It's not gonna make a game look completely next gen and modern, but it makes it look good enough so you can enjoy the game in mdoern times.
@@1983Dave1983 RE2 and Dead Space are remakes. If you don't know the difference between Remaster and Remake, it's your fault for getting disappointed here.
@@sheikhmohanlal3744 I do. Remaster is basically a touch up, remaster is made more from scratch.
I love the original game its one of my favourites so don't want to knock the remastered. The best I can say is that is looks slightly different rather than better. It was a good looking game when it released already though
The textures of the remastered version definetly looks better but pls
but pls remedy keep it more darker !!! And why Alan looks so angry in all scenes?
One of the best games ever made!!
They improved shadows, textures, facial expression, draw distance, limbs and hands positioning, for remastered version is solid work.
A remaster of this game without raytracing is a travesty considering how important light is.
nice video my friend 👍👍👍
I dunno, but they missed by a long shot in the OG lol it's making everyone think it looks wrong that don't know what the actual actor looks like - even though the model in this isn't perfect for sure
i played the original in a home cinema.. a wonderfull experiencie
And here i go complete the game for the fourth time!!!!!
wtf happened to Alan's face?!
It was remade to look more like the actor, Ilkka Villi, who is the facial and body model (and motion capture, mostly) for Alan.

@@cregerbot8217 people are really tripping about the updated character model. It looks much improved over the original.
As with every remaster, it's just an HD polish and touch up to the colour palette. I don't see any reason to buy this game again.
How can you be so fucking blind my god, even on a smartphone you can see the difference. Not only the cutscenes have been completely redone, textures have been improved, lighting, color grading redone, models redone(lipsync probably aswell). Mikel Arteta after sack from Arsenal.
I'm confused. The original is the xbox 360 i get that. What about the remastered, is itPC or a physical copy of the remastered edition played on the xbox series X?
The bump is resolution and framerate alone is huge for me. Considering I played the 360 version that ran at 540p at 30 fps. Looking foward to running through this gem again on PS5.
The more folks that get to play this game the better

25$
Nice comparison. The Light looks a lot better than in the original. 👍
I'm not complaining, but I feel like this wasn't really necessary
It looks good overall but the lighting on his face at a couple of the scenes look worser. Like there's a weird glow just around the eye or a big shadow patch at another.
its offical, they fooling you to buy the same game twice

I hope alan wake 2 comes out after this.
Anyone else think his face looks worse in the remaster?
It's weird that in the remaster Alan's eyes and mouth are lighted but not his cheekbones, something that in the original looks way better. Hope they fix it along with the lipsync from the original
Much better lightning and textures. Also Wake finally looks like he is supposed to
i am so happy to play this game again on PS5.
The Game looks much better. But after all these years i was expecting a remake, just like Resident Evil 2 and Dead Space. Alan Wake with controls graphics, and RT would be amazing.
My first game on pc, lot's of memories ❤️
very helpful video, thank you
Another example of how a remastered game can loose it's atmosphere...
They are a french game called: « jeu des sept erreurs »… it’s like that…
This is a bit disappointing to me.
At least they are not charging 70$
*No more Energizer flashlight !!!!
😱 Take my money
Idk why It's 60fps lock in series x and 30fps in One X and One.
I play it in a GTX 1070 and goes at 144fps locked (for my monitor), it's unaceptable, there's nothing better. It's exactly the same game. Should be running 120fps in Series X (better games do it) and 60 FPS in One.
Blame those shitty jaguar cores
PC master race will never be happy with anything. This remaster is only $30, you can't expect it to be a complete overhaul. The new Alan character model looks considerably more realistic and less constipated.
People are complaining because the mountain had more geometric complexity...I can't make this shit up.
Yep. I did like old mountains.
And 30$ was still a charge for completely new game on PC no more than 9 years ago. So we will complain.
@@---pp7tq Well your argument is pretty invalid considering you can just keep playing the original and maybe even the sequel if you can stomach the changes that will inevitably be made. The game looks objectively better. This game was originally made on a console with 512mb of ram.
