Great videos thanks I’ve got a 66 bus the steering is awful like being in a boat there’s a few options but very expensive rack and pinion other option is to rebuild the box itself but Would prefer to get something safer, I’ve seen a video on here if someone putting together RNp from different suppliers but no one here seems to do this can u do a video on this?
@@tospicy4ya ah. Not something I’m familiar with. The factory steering gets much better with new parts and greasable joints. I’d start there. I wouldn’t rebuild a box again, it’s better and safer to get one rebuilt professionally. You could try to retrofit a 3-piece Porsche rack and multi shaft from that time period. That’s going to be a lot of work tho.
I have found the number one issue with split bus steering and wandering, is tires. Without proper sidewall rating, it will be terrible. Soft passenger car tires will cause it to be all over the road.
Thanks for the great videos. That is a great looking bug. Can you give me the specs on the tires? I would love to get some whitewalls like that. Great stance.
Hey there. The tires are from CIP1 in Canada The fronts are 145/14 The tears are 165/15 I used the white wall inserts rather than buy whitewalls. Thanks for checking in. Let me know if there’s anything else you need to know.
I have a 64 painted Savannah Biege, very similar to your 65. I'm removing the dropped spring plates (4") and going back to the stock plates. Going to lower 1 spline just as you did. Were both sides at 21 degrees before you dropped it, and if so did both sides come out even, or did you have to re index one side?
I'm over the look. More lowered bugs than normal or high bugs in the world. I have a 64 with Bus reduction boxes on it and its awesome to drive! ALso can roll over curbs and park anywhere I want. 14 inches of clearance and body is stock. More practice than lowered in my own mind. @@garagechronicles9008
Dadgum that stance looks so good.
Keep those videos coming 👍
Thanks Ron! I’m on it.
Awesome ride! Just subbed. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks man. Welcome aboard
Beautiful bug.🪲
Thanks. It just left after a brief return to fix a few issues.
Nice video just subscribed !!
Thank you sir! I subscribed to yours. Looking forward to seeing your projects.
@@garagechronicles9008 nice one cheers
FYI, the rear height is infinitely adjustable if you clock inside spline too. use a protractor and you will never have to do it twice.
Thanks for that. I’m doing my second beetle now.
Great videos thanks

I rebuilt the steering box a few years back. It’s not easy.
Not sure what an RNp is

I didn’t do the degrees, I did it twice and settled in the middle. I believe it is 21 degrees tho.
The bolts I used for covers was Allen bolts much better
Reversing my lowered 66 bug to put it back to stock height. Ride is awful lowered.
It is a great look tho.
