This is Ali making his long comeback after being prohibited from fighting for 3.5 years, and then losing to Frazier on March 8th, 1971. Many people don't realize it, but Ali fought fourteen times before he was given a shot at the champion George Foreman. Fighting Norton twice, and Frazier a second time before defeating Foreman with his inspired "Rope-a- Dope," tactic. And of course the obnoxious and relentless critic of Ali, Howard Cossell, who never fails to point out how the second Ali is an inferior fighter to the first Ali, and almost never mentioning the fact that he hadn't fought for over 3&1/2 years, the prime years for any athlete. For Ali to make the comeback he did is nothing short of SuperHuman! Muhammad Ali is the greatest athlete of the 20th Century.

You're pointing out something that everyone on earth is aware of. Also, Howard Cossell is one of the greats in his own right. One of the greatest and most recognized voices in the history of boxing and football. He had a ton of respect for Ali and the causes he fought for, which is why he retired after Larry Holmes punished Tex Cobb for an entire fight that should have been stopped

      Uh, what?
Watch Ali-Frazier 2. Ali spends the majority of the fight doing probably everything you hate. Crowding, grabbing, wrestling, smothering. Anything but actually fighting clean.
Ali fought how he felt was best for each opponent. But make no mistake he had zero issue fighting an ugly spoiling type of fight if he felt that’s what was necessary.
And this isn’t a knock on him. He’s THE greatest. Because he (almost) always found a way to win.
The closest to a loss in his prime he had was his first fight with Norton. He’d shaken off the ring rust by then - he was still rusty from his exile when he lost to Frazer in their first fight. And know how Norton beat him? Norton noticed a tell on Ali that nobody else had - every time he went to throw a jab against Norton, his left pec would twitch before his arm moved. So Norton spent the entire fight with his eyes fixed on Ali’s left pec, so every time Ali tried to jab, he could interrupt it.

@@BobBenson-qz8lp kill, no. Knock out? Absolutely.
Holmes went 75 fights, only stopped ONCE. By Tyson in his prime. That version of Tyson would be an odds on favorite to take out just about anyone. Maybe ‘67 Ali or ‘00 Lennox Lewis might have a shot, but that’s about it.

@@TechnoLawyer Well, I was being facetious with the kill comment. Even a KO mike Tyson may not get but I would LOVE to see a fight between Mike Tyson of Spinks night vs Ali of cleveland Williams night. Let's see how Ali handles a joe frazier style who has foreman like power!!!!!! ANd perhaps Mike TYson of 1988 was faster than Joe. I watched the ai fight with Karl Mildenberger, brian london, Cooper, These guys are minute steaks for Mike Tyson of 1988, You remember how fucking fast and relentless Tyson was back then. fought every 3 months LIVED in the gym. Had an amazing bobbing and weaving defense, I never saw him really hit ,except Tony Tucker uppercut and that didn't even bother mike..pre 1989,., I see tyson wiping ali out the way he did with larry holmes, same fashion. If Ali ever played rope a dope with Mike tyson of 1988, then the killing of ali might happen in that scenario.

    • @BobBenson-qz8lp

@@TechnoLawyer Have you watched and analyzed ali vs Zora Foley? Foley is a minute steak for iron mike tyson of 1988, He would knock foley out in ONE ROUND. Ali struggled with foley and that KO shot was funky. Put youtube in slower version and look at that shot. It seemed to graze foley's nose or something. And foley acted as if he was slept by that shot, only to bounce right up like nothing happened, and then act all wigly legged. I think it was fixed. WHo was in their primes that ali fought from 64-67? who was also a top tiered guy, even someone equal to a tony tucker, as an example, NONE of them. Cleveland williams was a straight up robot. even Bonecrusher smith, the way smith knocked out tim witherspoon, I would put my money on SMith to beat that Williams ali fought in 66.

Mills Lane wasn't yet the referee that he would become by the 80's, but he had control of the fight, for the most part. A couple decades later they would make sure the 3 knockdown rule was in effect to keep guys from getting hurt, but it wasn't in place here.

ALi proved Mike TYson of rooney trained year 1988, and if Cus D'amato didnt die, would be too fast for Ali after Ali of 1967, Frazier kicked alis butt in 71 and ali had two tough tuneups before frazier. Ali was a little overrated. Ring Magazine in 1974 had ALi number 10 on the list of top heavyweights . It was his KO of foreman that made people believe he was the greatest. Foreman and Liston were beatable even with their godzilla power. Ali lost to fraizer, lost TWICE to norton, I was there, Ali lost the rematch with Norton as well, Norton landed the bigger shots. ALi struggled with Zora Foley and that clipping temple shot he KO'd Foley with, was a grazing shot, I wonder if that fight was fixed. Look at it again. yOU really think it would have bothered holmes lewis or Mike Tyson of 1988??? They would laugh at that shot.,ALi couldn't really do much with robotic slow Ernie Terrell. Even Marciano and Louis kept saying Ali was a member of the BUM of the month club opponents after Liston ,who was approaching 40 by the time he fought Ali. I believe Prime evander Holyfield would beat Sonny Liston prime. He would be too quick for liston.
