    The Enterprise being escorted by a fleet of all the new allies they have brought together is one of the best moments of any Star Trek series or episode.

      This season finally felt like a prequel: actual history of Star Trek.

      Season 3 was a surprisingly good lead-in to season 4, too. The camo'd MACOs and Enterprise as a retaliatory invader to demonstrate the aggressive path to ruin humanity had to avoid; realizing that the way to victory was to court allies instead of seek enemies; the coming war with the Romulans with the coalition by humanity's side presaged by the victory over the Sphere Builders with the friendly Xindi next to Enterprise.

    The NX is beginning to strain over warp five and the crew seemed impressed by the speed... then picard looks mortified when restricted to this speed in TNG 😄

    • @sodadrinker89
      @sodadrinker89 Год назад +10

      Also, TNG warp 5 is different from ENT warp 5.

      For picard it was about not being slow enough / taken seriously enough.

      Imagine going 250km/h in a Ford Model T, or Mach 1 in a Wright Flyer.
      Both developments were roughly 50 years apart.

    • @Thy_Boss
      @Thy_Boss 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Putting aside attempts by fans or side material to make sense of warp speeds across franchise history (the ships go as fast as the plot requires, is the solution there), one of the fun things about the setting of _Enterprise_ was the ship's dual role, however unrealistic, as both a long-haul explorer and an experiment comparable to the earliest high-altitude or Mach-speed aircraft. This Enterprise sustaining a speed above its arbitrary "warp 5" could be portrayed as something that toed the line between a case of need and a catastrophic risk for the crew.

    Shame they were cancelled after this. IMO this was the most interesting story arc that they had and is the whole point of prequels, expanding on interesting history that was only alluded to previously. First contact with the Romulans could have been awesome!

      Indeed. The series had found it's stride in Season 4.

      It's specifically mentioned in the original series that no one from Starfleet had ever seen a Romulan. When the Romulan commander first appears on the viewscreen all the bridge personnel are shocked and look toward Spock because Romulans look so similar to Vulcans.

      @@Milamberinxto be fair, enterprise basically did not mesh with TOS canon AT ALL.
      But it honestly fits well enough with tng.

    The idea of AI running a ship appeared in one episode of TOS. The AI had a software bug.

    Even if the Romulans had to abandon the remote controlled drone idea with the Aenar, that ship was years ahead of anything in the quadrant. And I find it very hard to believe they'd abandon the "Look like any ship we want" tech.

    I think people don't give enough credit to the Romulans for creating such a ship. Too bad their government didn't continue this program...find a new pilot.

    In "Balance of Terror" the war with the Romulans was fought with primitive atomic weapons and not phasors. No quarter was given so transporters were not invented yet.

    This drone ship looks almost like an exact copy of a ship we see in star trek voyager season five episode 19 when they find a ship adrift in fractured space. I wonder what's the story behind it; if its a recycled model or at least inspired by it

    I always thought the drones, once they were their actual shape and such - were really silly. I know they move closer to how a spaceship "should" move, but Trek has a ... visual style for how ships fly in space and these drones don't do it. I don't like it.
