Great Video. And it shows in great style that it mostly doesn't matter how hard you throw it. It's much more important to throw it straight and level in a controlled fashion.
I launch mine at 3/4 power and I put a bit id sandpaper at the throw holes for grip. I have never crashed my stryker nor have I hit the hand and I have always made it to the controller in time to enjoy a great flight. You can also toss it like a frisbee but I don't recommend that toss but I have seen it done multiple times
@toolbaggers you're right. a hard toss can be important especially with heavy edfs (mine almost 7 pounds). what i meant was that a hard toss can be useless when the plane leaves the hand 45 degrees nose up and banked 60. the toss might have been more than hard enough to take off but you don't have enough airspeed (control authority) and/or power to get out of that situation. with a nice and controlled throw you might need more time to build up speed to climb but no drastic corrections.
Ross, Seeing the Stryker in this clip reminds me of the "VERY SHORT, VERY SPECTACULAR FIRST FLIGHT Syndome" I suffered from .. particularly on a still day as the air over the control surfaces means that even when you grab the stick ( I just can't throw with my left hand ) - the limited airspeed over the surfaces gives very little authority. It's a bit "chicken and egg"- you need to know your plane and have confidence -- but you only get that by flying it !!!!
With deltas particularly large models holding the wing and gently throwing it works well. That's one they missed. Or if it has a small prop you can throw it with some power on but you give it a bit of an upward motion as you throw it to avoid it catching your hand. With small 4S planes with a lot of power I just power it up to near max and chuck them straight up, although this won't work with low powered planes.
Glad you powered up after you tossed that Stryker. Too many people power up before the toss and get cut, always horrifies me. Your fingers don't grow back. I fly RC and play guitar, it is hard to do both with missing digits.
hello, I bought the u2 has only one model, I have not found the center of gravity spiegazioni.Puoi tell me where it is? Aileron and cabra and beats in many mm must be set? thanks bye
The PKZ F27Q Stryker, I know John is an expert pilot or close too but HL the Stryker isn't as easy as the video made it look like. Even replacing the nose cone probably won't due cause it looks like airframe is also crumpled. He even says the Stryker is a entire different aircraft. Does one launch and moves on. With all the prop strikes people post HH should do a HOW TO instruction video just for the Stryker. Brand new Stryker with only one flight and already crumpled up.
I had the same problem.. they tend to torque roll just like a funjet. It's a great shame so many people break them before they get to enjoy what is a brilliant Airplane ... try a bungee pulled sled until you've enjoyed a few flights and gained confidence. A stiff breeze for a hand launch would be the next step.. A MICRO stryker is also good training for gaining confidence without the intimidation of that rotating Knife. Have a look at my channel that shares some of my experiences with a sled
So WHY exactly, are true flying wings never addressed? The Stryker has a fuselage to hold: for goodness sakes! I have had great success with wing/'frisbee' launching for both Bonsai wing and FT F22 park jet. I just don't get it, why even do the video if you miss out one of the easy, main ways of doing it. Sorry, but this is rather a poor video in my opinion.
last week is a fourth time i cut my hand and till now not yet fully healed. So this week i'm grounded. I'm launching my 3d profile jet, thats for me is dangerous but partly my own fault. Without paying a lot of attention, focus and to be brave enough it won't work, although i have launch it a dozen of time. Please...focus...pay attention...the spinning blade is inches to your hand don't get cocky.....I know i am....erm
read my lips people .... do not throw your jet (striker) and throttle up at the same time: No motor while hand launch! The prop will hit your hand/vinger one day. Here I am sitting with mine in bandage... Good video. Follow up please. Dutch: Voor alle sukkels in Nederland: de 1e de beste die ik een jet zie lanceren met de motor aan, trek ik van het veld af!
This video makes me so much happier about my habu, been a real pain to launch, thank you HH, I'm happy inverted so that's the next try!
I'm going to try imverted next time! It's so great in the air but launching has so far been a real pain in the ass, hope thid helps us!
awesome video, i had never heard of that inverted launch until now!

I always frisbee launch my F27Q Stryker at about 1/2 to 2/3 throttle - works every time! :)

i love the sound of that wildcats motor. so much better than the stryker. any info on what that wildcat is running?
One thing I love about helis is the simple takeoff from the ground... lol
Very helpful for my spitfire i tryed to over arm launch and broke the nose, but now with some araldite its ready to fly again. Thanks again ^_^
same here with a p51, did the hip one work better?
What plane are you attempting to launch?
I wonder is it not suppose to turn on throttle while launching the F-27Q? I usually turn throttle up nearly full while about to launch it.
What about holding the wing and flinging the aircraft as with gliders? More info would help:)
It always does work better when you hold your tongue to the left while launching
Nice vid HH....can you share any thoughts on hand launching a new plane just completed out of the box that hasn't been trimmed out yet? Thanks
i still cant launch my micro stryker......do i need to put a little uo trim in it, then whdm airborne revert it bacl?
Glad you powered up after you tossed that Stryker. Too many people power up before the toss and get cut, always horrifies me. Your fingers don't grow back. I fly RC and play guitar, it is hard to do both with missing digits.
I hold my tongue to the right when I hand launch my Stryker....Does it make a difference HH?

@usa1327 It's totally stock

I usually under arm launch my small edfs myself . Far nore easier than the unpredictable paper plane style
Yeah me too use hand launching
How would one launch the c147 Paladin. Everywhere on RUclips, people hand-lawn dart it into the ground.

Still haven't learned how to do this.
On that last launch the left elevator looked broken
Cool, i definitly woulda got an ouch from the flying wing lol
This never works when you hit the throttle cut right as it leaves your hand! I felt so stupid.
inverted hand launch......LOL...! then you have to go and buy a new model....
Sounds like a Stryker.

1 (6min) flight - 10 failed Hand Launches = 1 Busted up nose cone and damaged elevon tip. :(
