    Charlie could do more with four drums than other drummers with 20+in their kits. That traditional, elegant stick grip, impeccable timing-all without an earpiece monitor, he's watching Mick and the band for his timing. LOVE this video. A great artist, and humble, gentle man. Rest well.

      Charlie was an average drummer at best. But he was perfect for the Stones. Tho it's worth noting, recording engineer Jimmy Miller played drums on the studio recording of You Can't Always Get What You Want. Cuz Charlie apparently couldn't find the right groove.

    Charlie Watts was, in a sense, my musical hero. Although I never played any music (but wish too), I was still inspired by him. His elegance and his skills are just so inspirational.
    The energy and vibes you get from this man, is just… aw hell! I am unable to word my feelings now.
    Among all the Stones, he is my favourite.
    He is a true gentleman in the whole music industry. His skills are unmatchable.
    You see Charlie sitting in the back like a gentleman and playing amazing rock n’ roll on his drums, and keeps looking at the rest of bandmates, jumping in madness and joy, as if they were his children. He is always so happy.
    Being a teen, I dream quite a lot.
    I once was dreaming of interviewing Charlie Watts and y’know go on a tour with him. Visiting music museums and discussing music history with him.
    Oh how I would love to sit and talk with him.
    But with him gone now, I am left in shambles.
    What an humble man, he was.
    Adieu, Charlie! Rest in Peace.

  • @genevievegelatto8447

    Charlie! The great unsung hero of the Stones. The man who sits in back with his beatific smile & nails down the tastiest beats with power & economy- never a wasted movement or showy flash. In Keith Richards’ must-read autobiography, “Life”, he talks about how amazing Charlie is. On the gigantic stages they play today, Mick runs waaaay out into the audience on a catwalk, so far that his vocals take an extra second or two to reach the band back onstage, so to sync up the drums(& thus, the rest if the band) with what Mick is actually singing, he WATCHES Mick, and ADJUSTS his timing ever-so-slightly so that the band is in sync with Mick’s vocals! That’s GENIUS! And it comes from playing together for 50+ years! Much respect!

    • @kermitthefraud6431
      @kermitthefraud6431 3 года назад +4

      How is that even possible? They use monitors, earpieces, microphones, speakers, mixers, stage speakers, electrified instruments, radio transmitters instead of amp cables...... and electricity itself to power it all. Am I supposed to believe that a drummer can't hear a singer on time because of distance? In 2020? If it is true I'm about to be rich.....
      edit: Mick would have to run from the UK to a Pacific island to have a one or two second delay.

    • @genevievegelatto8447
      @genevievegelatto8447 2 года назад +17

      If you’ll notice, Charlie is not wearing a headset or an ear piece like Neil Peart & many others did/do. Charlie drummed organically, and so the sound of Mick singing, once he got that far out from the stage, created enough of a small delay that he had to watch him and adjust his timing accordingly.

    Without doubt the best beat drummer and originality ever in the rock and roll business. The world lost a great one in 2022. RIP Charlie Watts. They use Charlie to reset metronomes.

    I always thought that Charlie is the backbone of the group, adding control and rationality to what would otherwise be a band out of control. This man really shines at his 68s.

      Um. You always thought that? It is a FACT that the Stones have always maintained. Sheesh. You are some thinker.

    Every day since Charlie died, I've watched this Monkey Man piece at least once or twice a day. So glad I got to see them in June 2019 in Chicago. But I was hoping for one more time. I don't know how they can possibly replace him. Thanks for being the heart of my favorite band, Charlie. Now pardon me, I'm gonna hit Monkey Man again.
