This time upload is "All Down the Line", taken by same camera.
Just after the song ends, our Charlie has big sigh and seems very tired.
You aren't too old, Chalie ! Enjoy your good drumming forever !
Who's watching to marvel again at the man, after today's terrible news.
R.I.P. Charlie.
Is there anyone who could get more out of a quick single-stroke roll, or one-note tom fill?
Me
yup
Why do you ask you fucking asshole!!! You just looking for likes! Muslim or what? Fuck off outta here!!!!
I've long been coming back to this video ! now ain't no different 🤷♂️
The way Charlie plays the drums-so suave & with the coolest moves. No one can replace Charlie Watts. He will be greatly missed.
Rest well Charlie. You’re a legend.
RIP Charlie, thanks for the decades of music!
They say he never broke a sweat..I just did watching that. RIP. Mr.Watts
Charlie Watts, 2nd June 1941 - 24th August 2021. R.I.P Charlie, you will be missed but your drumming will live forever!
Charlie was the glue that held this fantastic band together. Rest in peace sir.
He didn’t care for flashy solos or attention of any kind, but with Wyman and Richards forged some of rock’s deepest grooves on “Honky Tonk Women,” “Brown Sugar” and other songs. We will miss you here in Brazil Charlie 🇧🇷
Charlie´s drumming is the ultimate master class in rock and roll. Powerful, fantastic groove. No replacement for such a personal style.
He always used a fairly basic kit, too.
So well said!!! 👍
Wow! In a recent Toutube video someone accused Chalie of being an average drummer. Fuck 'em .
@@vincentfisher1603 it was probably the kind of person who thinks phil collins is the world's best drummer. Dipshits.
@@vincentfisher1603 that person lacks from a good ear for music
Rest in Peace Charlie Watts!!! You were the Beating heart of the Stones and a true English gentleman !!
No one has practiced or perfected it more than Charlie Watts... an honest true gentleman, he never overplayed and he never underplayed, this one hit me hard😔R.I.P. my brother
He wasnt your broda he was just your grandpa lover
This fucking band has been going going on since the 60’s and still going strong. Long live the Stones and may you rest in peace, Charlie.
Enjoy this fantastic music.
Rock in peace, Charlie. You will be missed.
Rock in peace, ❤❤❤
Charlie and Mick really had quite the workout every night as they toured during their later years. Mad respect to them. RIP Charlie, you were always good every night.
The solid-as-a-rock drum-beat legend has ascended to the heavens. R.I.P.
Rest in heavenly peace, Charlie Watts. Thank you for a lifetime of great music.
Charlie, you literally "rocked it" until the end. Cheers, mate. you were and still are one of the best
Have a good trip, Charlie, now YOU are playing with the heavenly band
Charlie meant so much to me during my life. I fell in love with the Stones when I was a teenager. I allready miss you, thank you Charlie for the music, for everything. Rest in peace💋
So great. You can tell he's a jazz drummer at heart, flat ride cymbal and two china/pang type cymbals. He tuned his own drums every night as well. Legend!
That sigh is caught on the main film, it's the exaggerated blink of the eyes that does it for me! I always remember it, because the band were playing ridiculously fast for the first few numbers of the concert (I think nerves had a bit to do with it), I remember Charlie's sticks were just a blur. And knowing Charlie always drums to Keith's guitar, I always took that look at the end as Charlie saying "WTF do they think they're doing, playing at this mental tempo?!?" An absolute legend and a truly sensational drummer. He'll be hugely missed by us all.
👍
I'm literally speechless. Just found out this legend passed away. The timeless drummer of my favourite rock band of all time. RIP.
Yeah. Sad news.
I can't believe it. The world is ending...
@@formaabsolutu8118 If you tried to be ironic, I appreciate it.
@@mateoairaudo5535 No, I didn't. The Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts will not be the same band. The music world without The Rolling Stones will be completly different. It is the end of an era.
@@formaabsolutu8118 Ah ok. Sorry for misjudging you.
I love Charlie's expression right at the end of the clip..... "WHEW!!!" RIP CHARLIE!!! You had one hell of a run!
The Rolling Stones will never be the same again without Charlie watts that was some drumming wow
The rolling stones will never be again. Big part of the storyline of many a life!
Yeah your right
The "ENGINE" of The Rolling Stones. Incredible, Beat throat cancer too. Charlie Watts rules.
majorsmythe1 I never knew he had throat cancer.
You never "beat" cancer...NEVER. You just try and keep it under submission.
Of course, we will NEVER eliminate cancer until we BAN THE ILLEGAL TOBACCO DRUG, NOW!

You're a moron.
@@tripjet999 That's funny. People usually say "people should have the right to put whatever substance they want in their bodies without government interference."
That’s so true ! Charlie is stunning!
Playing the drums is very physical, especially in a rock band and for someone to continue do it at age, what, 73,74? Charlie is amazing.
yes, charlie is the shit...keith said, no charlie no rolling stones...go charlie
Bill got absolutely roasted for marrying that young bride. I mean BROILED. Thus the new skin tone.
David Nika Are you saying Bill was replaced because of who he married?
I was totally joking. Maybe the joke was a bit too absurd, so nobody got it. However, I'm pretty sure that the controversy led to Bill deciding to retire from the Stones.
David Nika Could be. The only statement I remember
Bill saying when he quit the Stones was that it simply wasn't fun anymore. He said all the fun had gone out of it for him and he also said that he was tired of spending so much time in airplanes. I don't remember the wife being brought up at all. Do you or anyone else remember, was he still married to her when he left the Stones or had they separated and then he left the band? I can't remember. Last thing I'll say is I remember having a sick feeling in my stomach that because he was leaving the others would pack it in soon after. Hahaha, wrong! How long has he been gone now, 20 years or so?
RIP Charlie, we already miss you. You were the best. None better.
I saw you many times in concert Charlie. I always though that you were a Great Drummer. You held the Rolling Stones together. You will be sadly missed. My condolences to your family. And. The Rolling Stones. R.I.P. Charlie... Yours Cliff
Thanks for all the good music, Charlie. we'll miss you.
Se fue una leyenda! El gran Charlie watts! Buen viaje señor baterista..!
"Don't call me your drummer ever again, you're my fucking singer!". Charlie Watts to Mick Jagger. RIP.
After socking Mick in the nose
I heard about that story and that's great putting Mick in his place!!!
No wonder he played drums; he had to sit down because his steel balls were too heavy to lift.
I read that story in Keith's book. I think the "You're my drummer/singer" thing was an in-joke that Keith embellished. Funny though.
Touche, Charlie.
When I hear your drums I feel young like when I was twenty. Thank U Charlie
The man is just amazing and he flies right under the radar just like he wants to.
Charlie Watts is so far under the radar satellites can't pick him up. That's how good he is.
All goes back to the BLUES
Charlie is the Radar that all others can be seen upon. he is the four to the floor in which they all play on.......
Mick is the face, Ronnie is the muscle, Keith is the soul and Charlie is the beating heart
That's more or less the recipe. Ronnie the artist makes for a nice full sound.
Ronne is the nose. ;)
R W is just a hanger on ,gimme a break...
Mick face AND brain
@@jeffsmith2022 Stop trying to telegraph your musical cred, Jeff. They didn't pick him because Keith wanted someone to do drugs with, you bonehead. They actually auditioned many people. You know....people who could not only play the guitar, but who could fit in with their sound.
Charlie Watts always remerber you. Love, respect and thanks for you. From Argentina
Rest in Peace Charlie, thank you for the million hours we listened to your music
Billions....
I love Charlie's snare drum sound,it was always so distinctive.
Yes, it is so incredibly unique! I feel in love for his snare sound when i was a kid and that feeling has been with me ever since
It has to do with how he plays the hi-hat. If you watch him play in various videos, he skips a beat on the hi-hat when he hits the snare, and I've never seen another drummer do it. He says it gives the snare a cleaner, more pronounced smack when it isn't competing with a hit on the hi-hat, and he's right.
Especially during wild horses and gimmie shelter
Agreed always distinct.
No one has that pop in his snare like Charlie. Instantly recognizable. The Stones are not the Stones without it. As an aside, listen to "Show Me" from Ronnie Wood's solo album "Gimme Some Neck" in the early '90s. Charlie at his best.
Charlie is one of the biggest rock and roll drummers !!! Plus, he's a very decent and nice person!
Thanks for the music charlie . Sleep well old friend
There is no other drummer on this planet who can emulate Charlie watts style and so much power in that left hand in particular
Charlie the time keeper. He rocked and he rolled huffed and puffed
but never missed a beat! Rock & Roll heaven is a little more crowed
tonight!
I had a dream about 25 yrs ago where Charlie Watts taught me drum lessons to "Rip This Joint" and "Street Fighting Man"...R I P Charlie.
RIP Charlie, thanks for everything.
He's so essential in the way he keeps the rythym
Charlie was the master at serving the song, serving the band and ultimately the audience as well as his legacy. It’s beautiful and healing to watch after his crossing over
And unlike certain self-aggrandizing guitarists, he could play his parts properly until the very end.
The reason the stones sound fresh today still is because Charlie lays down a serious groove feel, just great, understated, rocking, and funky
Yep. Like all great drummers, Charlie hits on the back half of the beat. It is that little bit of lag that makes real groove
Havent seen this before, Charlie's expression when the song ended is priceless, God we will miss you Charlie ✌️
So glad this video is still up. It's so refreshing to see the camera hovering around Charlie for a change, instead of the usual emphasis on Mick (and less on Keith, even less on Ronnie and Charley). Thank you!
Charlie was not only an incredible drummer and the backbone of the Stones, he was the glue that maintained united the band despite Mick and Keith egos. We owe Charlie having enjoyed the RS for such a long period of time. He passed away sixteen months ago and I still miss him. Rest in peace with your beloved wife Shirley.
Haven't seen this in decades . God love you Charlie.
Love you, Charlie, so much..... such a gentleman..... Best drummer these ears have ever heard.... and a humble man too..... Love you.... Jack
Rest in peace Charlie, we will miss you
DANKE, CHARLIE. Dein Beat ist unsterblich. R.I.P.
😭
Amen...
Keep on Rockin Charlie
Charlie nailed a perfect rimshot every backbeat with that traditional left hand grip.Nobody sounds like Charlie.I love the way he used his rack tom.So musical.
Goodness This seems unreal. I do not think I can watch a video of new tour. Without ♥️ Charlie ♥️ heartbroke along with millions
Charlie’s right hand, 3 on one off technique....I’ve never seen anyone else do that. Amazing the guy is still going! And his snare sound rules!
I love the ring in that snare, and the steady backbeat no matter what the right hand is doing.
2021 and still steady as a clock. Charlie's the Man!
So nice to see Charlie featured in a Stones video. Few realize that no matter what song or where the Stones played, Charlie was the drummer. So some songs may have been sung by Mick or Keith or both, but the drumming was ALWAYS Charlie. He was pure talent and class and is sorely missed
This is brilliant.....stones at their best, laying down some serious groove and anyone who says Charlie Watts can't drum doesn't have a clue what they're talking about...the guy's a genius.! Ginger Baker famously turned them down and they got Charlie....they got the better man in my opinion.!!
Speaking to a be-floored Mick that he had just decked, Charlie once asserted "I'M NOT YOUR DRUMMER, YOU'RE MY SINGER!"
OLD NEWS
true story
charlie aint a fool.
Will never be the same he was so good . RIP Charlie
R.I.P Charlie Watts thank so much for the music and the memories. I'll see you up there in the great gig in the sky
A large part of Charlie's undersung magic is how he does so much with a small kit!
A few women have said that about me....
This is the best video I've seen that visually highlights the amazingly subtle yet effective drumming that Charlie executed into his late 70s.
If you want to hear Charlie at his best then listen to the 75 US Tour.
Happy birthday Charlie!
Charlie is definitely running the show. The best.
You watch and listen to his drumming and its hard to believe its actually real. I mean it doesnt feel like it should add ud to the most powerful and funkiest beat imanigable. He's actually a very strange drummer, some of the choices seem random and counterintutive. But there it is and it all works perfectly, in a way that only Charlie would imagine it would work. This is a great video because it takes an essential RS song, boils it down just to the music, and then focuses almost exclusively on Charlie. if you dont get why he was so special after seeing this vid, then I cant help you. What was he 70 years old when this was recorded?? My god. RIP Charlie. Time waits for no one..
His playing ( especially his fills on the toms) is just perfect. It enhances the groove and propels the song. He knew how to punctuate. It's the jazz influence.
You don't see it much here because he's driving the beat, but as Stewart Copeland points out in another RUclips video, a very odd thing about Charlie Watts's playing was the slight lateness you often heard from him on the backbeat, even though he was keeping perfect time with his foot etc. It gave the Stones that ramshackle feel that's maybe the most important part of their sound, and it was really weird and very hard to do.
@@johnlilly0 It is actually very common in rock 'n' roll to place the back beat behind the beat. Charlies habit of leaving out the hi-hat when hitting the snare made it stand out even more. If he did hit them both there would be a split second space between them or as drummers call it a "flam."
i believe he may have been 75 here... This post was 5 years back... he passes at 80... Legendary. That hi hat trick w the fills on the turnarounds is such a baffling groove.
@@johnlilly0 And wonderful !
Charlie's playing is really groovy, and he's got a perfect timing! Respect for the man!!!
what a player-all in the wrist action-fantastic -and any drummer would be blowing after that -its relentless.RIP Charlie
The amazing wonderful Charlie Watts. So nice to see Scorsese’s
film with the Charlie shots. The Heart of the Stones❤️
IMMORTAL. LOVED. TRUE GENTLEMAN. Thank you, sir.
Charlie gets it done to perfection at every gig !
RIP Charlie! You will be missed here in Brazil
Charlie has moved on "Down the Line" and we're thankful for the 60 year ride... Thank you, Mr. Watts and RIP.
RIP Charlie Watts. Thank you for the music!
Charlie is just soo cool with everything chillin on the drums where he likes it
He rocks in heaven now, what a legend, R.I.P Charlie :c
Loved and missed. Charlie...you were the man!
I could watch this man bang those drums all day long. Such finesse yet so powerful!
One of my favourite Stones' songs. Go, Charlie go, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Great drummer perfect timing!🍺👍🤛

@@thebrazilianatlantis165 "The best musician"... As it was a competition... Ridiculous.
Perfect timing? Lol, are you deaf? All breaks are out of beat, he is barely there. You are obviously not a musician
Watching a legend and his singer, Mick. Love from Seattle!
Charlie is the humblest of all legends. No Charli no stones.
I once saw an interview with him. Charlie was very polite & congenial and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. However, the interviewer seemed to get frustrated because Charlie would talk about all sorts of subjects, but HE WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT HIMSELF.
Who could replace Mick..
@@douglasnewman2299 some people just dosn't want to talk about themself and that is absolutely fine.
And so it has come to pass :(
RIP Charlie simplemente gracias 😢😢😢
Love love love Charlie's work on Exile. It's all feel. All of it is just great. His beat on Soul Survivor is one of my all time favorite
RIP Charlie...you will never be forgotten.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌈🌈🌈🍀🍀🐸🐸🌸🌺⤵🌺🍀🍀🌈loved Charlie he was my favorite drummer
This guy has always been the master of the DRUMS. There would be no Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts. Like KEEF said he is the 'engine department'.
One of the best. Ladies and gentleman, Sir Charlie Watts
If that Knob head Ringo gets one why not Charlie
Better to be like Kieth and reject that royal crap!
@@johndavies1506 Give Ringo some credit; he was already a pro drummer when he joined, knew how to be professional in attitude, John's ego would have imploded the band without him, and at least he's steady on timing, which is a very difficult thing to find in a drummer (at least in my experience). There's a reason Ringo was the first with big hits after the Beatles, he knew he had to go to market when the hype was still there. Not saying he's the best drummer in the world, but he may have been the best drummer for the Beatles.
I'll never understand how Mick got knighted before Charlie. I get that Mick's up front......but hasn't anyone in the royal family ever seen Charlie in a suit? That gentleman is dapper as hell. Sir material if I've ever seen it

We love, miss and respect you. You are one of the legendary greats. Thank you for loving and gracing us.

God i'm going to miss you charlie! The cool art of restraint and knowing what to leave out - you were amazing ,thanks for the memories....all the best, still upset about this.
...and THIS is how you play the drums in a rock'n'roll band, kids!
Elegant, spare , impeccable - Charlie is the heartbeat and bedrock of the Stones.
A very good friend of mine (which is a musicians teacher) toll me that the rolling stones is a band that is NO COORDINATED BY THE BASS PLAYER, IS COORDINATED BY THE DRUMS PLAYER, the bass is allmost another guitar. Charlie Watts Rocks! And that is the reason WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH!
"Charlie's good tonight, innee?!" RIP Charlie
I've thought that same quote several times tonight. I got my "Ya Ya's" out on cd tonight to play all day at work tomorrow. Still one of the best live albums out there.
