    you can mine with cpu for only 25% or 50% of cpu power. you can set it to use threads to limit the usage. i did not know this from the start and i also believed that it will automatically use 100% but as i go deeper into mining i found the settings to make the cpu mining limited so i can still use my pc while mining. i believe you need to type in the launch parameter --cpu threads= 6 ( if for example i have ryzen 5 2600 , it have 12 threads so i use 6 meaning it only mining for the 50% of capabilities of your cpu. you can lower it or increase if you still feel like your pc is not lagging or causing any issues.

    • @DarthAscension
      @DarthAscension 3 года назад

      I have the same unit... Unless your making huge money off of it to replace what you will burn out (depends on your case and cooling in the case you have the same alienware r11 unless you upgraded fans the R11 case runs hot) and enough to offset your increased electricity bill... I would say no.
      Your killing the life of your GPU by mining and I can find the article but I believe a year of mining slowed down a card significantly compared to a brand new one (article does not compare what a year of heavy gaming does in comparison).
      If you look at mining rigs they have multiple cards to make some profit (while you have one) ... And they are not super miners like servers made for that purpose.
      Overall you do what you do for a quick buck if you make one but know you have to take into account the costs both short and long term.

    • @NyckHD-Official
      @NyckHD-Official 3 года назад +1

      @@DarthAscension I think ~$300 profit a month wouldn’t be so bad. I do not have an Alienware btw. Also electrical charges aren’t too expensive where I live. As for the life span of the GPU. In case of failure it could just be replaced by manufacturers warranty?

    • @GamerHeavenOfficial
      @GamerHeavenOfficial  3 года назад +2

      I would mine the GPU only, the CPU isn't worth it. I would just underclock your 3090 a notch to compensate for the VRAM getting hot on our 3080/3090 cards and you should be golden. You may shave a little off the back end life of your card, but if you aren't throttling or hitting abnormally high temps you should be absolutely fine. Darth makes some good points, however there are dozens of reputable articles saying mining is completely safe for your rig. Personally if I had a 3090 I would mine the ever living sh*t out of it, but if you want you can live vicariously through me and I will let you know if my 3080 melts on me.

    • @DarthAscension
      @DarthAscension 3 года назад +1

      @@NyckHD-Official I don't have server grade parts... So I know it's not meant to be always on, you do what you want I am just giving a counter point that it could be good to give you a little money (I don't see ~$300 profit where I live but hey great if you can achieve that).

    I only have my main PC that has a 3080 I do work on and everything else your normal main PC would do. Pay for bills, games, tensorflow and cudnn work, Unreal engine, managing stock portfolio, etc. Would you suggest not using it to mine? Usually its just dormant while I'm at my day job. Sometimes its rendering workflow. But there are downtimes I wouldn't mind it using it to MINE if it safe to do so.
    I'm sure having a separate dedicated computer that mine's, and only mine's would be better. But for now its the only PC I have. I do plan on building a new PC probably later this year once AM5 Zen 4 comes out, and I suppose I can convert my current PC to being a dedicated mining computer on the side. Quickminer overclock in amazing, cards are silent and cold. A 3090 aorus waterforce is coming to me so I'm curios to see if It works well without overheating problems.
    PS: I tryed It on 2060 strix, 2060super aorus, 2060 super asus dual, 2080ti lighting z and in all cases I have silent GPU and temps about 65 degrees on memory and 50 on core. And very low power comsuption (a pc with only 2080ti is 50w lower power comsuption than using aftterburner with lower tdp and core frequency, dropeed from 280w to 230w with SAME MH/S).

    When I try to run NHQM, my screens freeze and I have to do a hard reboot. I'm running win10, EVGA 2080ti with the latest studio drivers. I have three screens hooked up all using the DPs at 1440p resolution (I doubt that means anything, but threw that out there). What could be causing the freezing? I downloaded the latest version of the quick miner.

    Hey man, i'm using a 3080 FE with quick miner on the medium setting, but both the fan speed is pinned at 100% at all times on all modes, and when it comes to power consumption it hangs around 200w at both the light and the medium settings. I'm sorry to say this..but unless you have 2 of the exact same systems and GPU (with same clock/memory settings)with one only running quickminer(daggerhashimoto) and one running the NBMiner daggerhashimoto there is no truthful comparison. Cause I am now earning 2.50 more a day using the NBminer. Thats because the current profitability always changes. Last week it barely hit 13.00, this week its hitting over 20 at times. Till someone does a side to side comparison for like 1 week there is no basis on saying quickminer makes more.
