the devs may have made that decision as more of an aesthetic choice relating to the colorfulness and general childlike frivolity of a music box meshing with common interpretations of a clown holding many of those same qualities while also being a representation of fear as a result of it being a heavily saturated concentration of those elements to the point where it's excessive and creepy
Seeing as all the other bosses in this game were quite light-hearted, when I finally got to this guy, it legitimately freaked me out. This is perhaps the only clown I will ever be scared of. I mean, come on, he literally has blood-red eyes AND teeth. That's enough to scare anyone, let alone a kid. And might I say as well, this is the only time in the entire game that you can actually get a game over. Like, what do you think happens to Wario if/when Rudy catches him? To me, that's even more unsettling
Whats funny is this is the third time wario has done something good by accident. Seriously, all the warioland games, with the exception of the gamecube games, wario always does something good in the end
i've got this on cartridge and when i saw this clown for the first time...i just lost it, i could not stop laghing. this whoule battle is full of surprises, the fact that you were helping the bad guy, to the bad guy being a psyco clown, to actually being able to die... and so on.
I owned all 4 of the original Wario Land games. Platforming at it's finest. I would play these games for hours on end when I was a kid. Ah, early-2000's nostalgia.
That's a good point you bring up. Not many people remember it, but Bowser was written up originally in the manual as a magical being that transformed the people (were they Toads, maybe???), but nowadays he relies on Magikoopas for that... it's interesting to see how these characters' abilities change.... anyway, great video. I remember when I played this game.....it was one of my favorites....
when I was 7 my uncle had this on his gameboy. I think this was back in 03 . my uncle would always get me to the final boss. I thought the gameplay was so cryptic and puzzling.
This game is-a perfect, despite being less challenging than the first one since it has no health meter or remaining lives system like the second one, which the second and third ones should've had a health meter with or without a remaining lives system and a game over screen. Other than that, I still enjoy this game and the second one. I like this ending and the credits theme as well. The credits theme kinda reminds me of Super Mario 64's credits theme.
I love fighting Rudy the Clown...not only because of the music, but I get to beat down a giant clown, which is so satisfying. Also, I love how near the end of the Credits, some of "Out of the Woods" plays.
One of the best things in this game is that you can't die unless in the final boss. This "continue" thing is something that works best in arcades and makes less sense in home games.
it's funny to see how many elements nintendo recycle... the collection of music boxes to play a melody near the end of the game, is super similar to the collection of instruments in Link's Awakening...
Thank you for posting this Blaziken257 ^^ I played at this game when I was young but my brother exchanged the game for another one, so we don't have it anymore. Seeing your videos has reminded me of those good moments I had when playing at this game. I'd like to play at it again now.
I figured out the trick to winning if anyone is having trouble with Rudy. Do not press the Dpad AT ALL when you jump to throw his fist. If you do, Wario automatically drops the fist. It was super annoying. I help up because of the high jump upgrade thinking it would help me.
Oh, man. I love this game. In fact, blame this for me going anywhere NEAR Nintendo. If it wasn't for this game, I wouldn't be the all-around gamer I am today. I loved the music in this game. IMO, the credits theme is one of Ninty's most outstanding songs ever. Despite the easy final boss, I still fins my slef playing him over and over again.
My first try on this i got killed. The game over screen was so creepy i was forced to turn my gameboy SP off and throw it towards the window. THATS how scary it was.
Yup. You just get hit repeatedly. However, when you are hit, it can get annoying. Plus, Rudy tries to crush you. So, you get crushed, you're dead, gore everywhere(not really).
i like wario land 3, thats was a good child hood game, and it was kinda good for a game boy color, and i remmeber when i finished this game, and i heard the music boxes playing at the end, i was just *sob*
@spikespeed125 Yes, probably, that is what my brother told me to do. But somehow I'd rather play it on gameboy, it's probably a psychological thing =') I'll try to see if I can find this game again, like on eBay or things like that. Thank you for your advice though.
This was definitely the most confusing game for the gameboy, i got lost forever when i was 7, and took me years to beat. (This was before we had internet so i couldn't have looked it up)
I remember getting to this for my first time when I was little. It scared the crap out of me. :S I was always afraid that thing would e behind my shower curtain or something and it would pull it back and attack me. X(
I kinda like how Rudy doesn't do anything clownish and there's no real narrative reason for him to be a clown. He just sort of is one.
I can't imagine anything more terrifying they could've made an ancient demon look like. Rudy is probably pals with Pennywise.
@@Nyah420 i heard they hang out in villian bad town.
I thought he was The Magic Mirror or something! Lol
the devs may have made that decision as more of an aesthetic choice relating to the colorfulness and general childlike frivolity of a music box meshing with common interpretations of a clown holding many of those same qualities while also being a representation of fear as a result of it being a heavily saturated concentration of those elements to the point where it's excessive and creepy
It's Klownzilla!
Seeing as all the other bosses in this game were quite light-hearted, when I finally got to this guy, it legitimately freaked me out. This is perhaps the only clown I will ever be scared of. Thankfully, he's pretty easy to defeat
MegaMetalManX my first thought was: DAMN, HE’S WAY BIGGER HERE (I suffered from late arrival spoiler thanks to Dr Mario 64)
What happens? U get a game over
Well, he basically kills you.
Wario's not evil, just greedy. He'll happily help the good guys if they pay him.
Whats funny is this is the third time wario has done something good by accident. Seriously, all the warioland games, with the exception of the gamecube games, wario always does something good in the end
Well, Wario World had him defeating another ancient evil
It seems obvious now, but when i was little, the wall turning evil caught me totally off guard
same. ancient comment
Time flies
i've got this on cartridge and when i saw this clown for the first time...i just lost it, i could not stop laghing.
this whoule battle is full of surprises, the fact that you were helping the bad guy, to the bad guy being a psyco clown, to actually being able to die... and so on.
What a Nostalgic YT Channel I am 21 right now and I was watching your videos when I was 9 years old , good vibes to you :)
I owned all 4 of the original Wario Land games. Platforming at it's finest. I would play these games for hours on end when I was a kid. Ah, early-2000's nostalgia.
Be glad he did not show you what happened when he grabbed you
damn, this boss scared the hell out of me when I was a kid
Yeah, let’s just say that hands down that Rudy is scarier than giygas!
That's a good point you bring up. "I'm-a Wario! I'm-a gonna win!"
-Wario, Mario Kart 64

Oh man, I remember when I beat this many years ago. I never thought I'd see this again.
MY MUSTACHE HAS DEEMED THAT YOU GET MY WARIO STEAM
I loved this game SO MUCH as a child, oh the nostalgia.
One of the best things in this game is that you can't die unless in the final boss.
This "continue" thing is something that works best in arcades and makes less sense in home games.
This game solidified my fear of clowns...even though the boss was easy as heck.
I loved the credit music so much, actually scratch taht, i loved that entire game, i really wish they would continue the wario land series
the music is really cute (the music box)
And kinda reminiscent to the Super Mario 64 credits theme.
NOW you are the king of the Wario Land series! Congrats!
One of the best games ever!
This is my childhood right here :D
Wait, we were killing little old ladies? WTF!
it's funny to see how many elements nintendo recycle... the collection of music boxes to play a melody near the end of the game, is super similar to the collection of instruments in Link's Awakening...

The credits music is really nice. It's one of my favorite tracks from any gameboy game.
This game is the sole reason for why Wario is my favourite gaming character ever! And also that hes realy cool...
anyways, its a perfect game!
i really like the credit-music! your vids and this game are awesome!
Rudy the clown looks like the magic mirror knock off! Lol!
I figured out the trick to winning if anyone is having trouble with Rudy. Do not press the Dpad AT ALL when you jump to throw his fist. If you do, Wario automatically drops the fist. It was super annoying. I help up because of the high jump upgrade thinking it would help me.
Does anyone else notice the ground glitching about?
I had a tough time trying to defeat Rudy back then playing Wario Land 3.
I like the credits theme too.
Rudy the clown scared the hell out of me when I was little.
1:05 to this day is how I react when startled
I think when he turns red and angry... that could have been an inspiration of Super Princess Peach with the angry vibe
Thanks wouldn't have been able to beat this without your help.
omg yes. Back in the day I'd erase my save and start the game over just so I could hear the music, and it was worth it every time.
i played this game through so many times when i was younger and I've always loved the ending credits music. must... download it...
You know those kirby game over screens where you see kirby sleeping?
Its basically that, with a black screen, and wario.
My first try on this i got killed. The game over screen was so creepy i was forced to turn my gameboy SP off and throw it towards the window. THATS how scary it was.
completing the whole game fully took a whole lot of time, and took ages to work out. took me a while to beat this guy.
this was one of my favurite games back when i was in junior high
His face looks like a pickle!
PICKLE RUDY
Pickle Rick might have something to say about that.
I rented this game a few years back, loved it. but now all I have the memories... Ah, I sucked so bad at video games back then...
Holy crap this comment is old
Nothing is more scary than an evil clown.
This game is just awesome
I actually cried out of fear when I saw that thing 5 years ago...
I love that Credits-song so much. ^^
I like the music box tune...so relaxing...zzzzzzz
Well.. this could be one way to get over anyones' fear of clowns :P
Yup. You just get hit repeatedly. However, when you are hit, it can get annoying.
Plus, Rudy tries to crush you. So, you get crushed, you're dead, gore everywhere(not really).
i knew there was something scary about all the clowns, this one is no exception
i like wario land 3, thats was a good child hood game, and it was kinda good for a game boy color, and i remmeber when i finished this game, and i heard the music boxes playing at the end, i was just *sob*
Aka Mr. Doobie (as The Lonely Goomba called him), aka Donkey Kong 94’s final Donkey Kong fight if Donkey Kong was a Killer Klown from Outer Space
all the nostalgia!!!!
The fact that this is the only way to get a game over shows just how powerful Rudy is. Kinda... unsettling.
That’s probably a good fact that he wants to crush wario “like a bug” right?
As a very curious question, what are the odds of this game getting a 3DS remake?
None
probably never
How about a switch remake?
It's quite funny how this is the only place in the game where you can die. Still it's a pretty fun game!
omg zelda links awakening reference: same idea as wind fish lol
Almost invincible. If he gets caught by Rudy he dies.
Strange how Wario turns out to be a Hero in this game when he's suppose to be a greedy villain.
that clown thing scared tha shit out of me when i was young and it still does now even tho i ant afriad of clowns lol
@spikespeed125
Yes, probably, that is what my brother told me to do. But somehow I'd rather play it on gameboy, it's probably a psychological thing =') I'll try to see if I can find this game again, like on eBay or things like that. Thank you for your advice though.
@Lavaninja234 Must be to make wario thin in comparrison.
i think rudy clowni s also like Wham Bam rock and Jewel in Kirby Super Star Ultra-an epic man with his rock hands
Rudy looks like a green Thanos in a clown outfit
😆
This was definitely the most confusing game for the gameboy, i got lost forever when i was 7, and took me years to beat. (This was before we had internet so i couldn't have looked it up)
The hands crush your body flat, not "smash-idol flat". The "you're fuckin dead" flat.
Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuudy, Ruuuuuuuuudy, Ruuudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy
creepy villan
The final boss is an evil clown. It can't get any better then that, right?
Pennywise From it: finally a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary!
I used to be very scared of that clown when I played this game when I was young!
We need another Wario Land game
@dalejhunter1 They're better off remaking the first or second Wario Land games.
holy shit i jus saw someone defeat this boss in about 10 seconds holy shit ppl holy shit
nintendo loves giant hands
It could have had more health, but then it would have gotten more tedious than anything...
This is the best fucking game alive. I keep beating it and erasing it and beating it and erasing it again. I LOVE WARIO IN THIS GAME!!!
@spikespeed125
Ok, I'll see. Thank you for your advices =)
I could never beat that zelda end game boss that was like this guy
the music in this game kicked so much ass great game
So basically, he's an Anti-Villain. Makes sense.
I remember getting to this for my first time when I was little. It scared the crap out of me. :S
I was always afraid that thing would e behind my shower curtain or something and it would pull it back and attack me. X(
"i spy with my little eye something beginning with gay clown. i have a bad feeling about this"
(abridged quote.)
are you saying that the people of the world didnt have enough strength to beat THAT guy!?!?!?!?
And i thought hhe was creepy BEFORE he regained his power.
this is how master hand and grazy hand was born =)
No dude, the truth is super smash bros came out in 1999 and wario land 3 came in 2000 now you know!
man i loved this game so classic but so fun
:D
Ya it was a total surprise for me too. Awesome game!
he didn't knew that, it was all self defense:O
I just played this today. it took me a while but I got past it.
I want a music box that plays that ending credit song.
This game was for the GBC right?
InvaderKED
If you mean Gameboy Color, yes. I know this is an ancient comment, but so are most of them.
Well not “ancient” enough!
Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself! Nya-nya! XD
roflmao wario is invincible in the game man...
The true face of evil: Rudy the Clown!
I thought it was bowser!
This boss always reminded me of the final boss from Donkey Kong '94. Both were tough
Well… this one’s easy!
is it normal that i cry if i listen to the credits music?^_^ it's the same every time...^^
