For those who don't really get the end: I think the reason Rudy smiled is that he wasn't defeated. Its pretty obvious Mario could never beat Rudy. Unfortunately enough, Wario's brute strength is the only one that can take Rudy down. Rudy juat thought that Mario wasn't worth it. Which is why he smirked, gave up the star, and disappeared into the darkness, to wait for a true opponent.
Smash Bandicoot wario isn't a giant evil clown god demon, he cant take a hit as well as rudy, but he can definitely deal enough damage. keep in mind Wario has canonically lifted a dinosaur like 10 times his size.
Smash Bandicoot i know this is a dick move, but name something worse than a demon clown so powerful he had to be sealed away by a bunch of magic, and that magic didn't even stop him from turning everyone into creatures. honestly if it wasn't a gameboy game I imagine rudy's fight would have been a lot more crazy, he is supposed to be able to use dark magic shit after all.
Dang man... Also, he said "to to" at the beginning. And what is he doing with his hands? I just had to point that stuff out. But still a cool fight. And a cool theme.
I imagine there are different layers that get swapped out with each point of damage. If you look carefully, you can see a puff of smoke on Rudy's head every time he stops grimacing, when he takes damage, and when the hands come back. And each layer triggers a different attack event which then triggers the one before it.
