The balls dropping out when you pull the trigger is just the nature of the design of these guns. I actually think that’s great because it reinforces good REAL gun behavior. No reason to be pulling a trigger on a loaded gun unless you mean it, period. The long trigger pull is also nice for folks who aren’t experienced gun people and just want some decent self defense.
Agreed! The actually back traced to the original manufacturer of these as well. I have one coming in January. The long trigger pull doesn’t really bother me either way because it’s got a very well defined “sweet spot” when it fires. I just want everyone to know exactly what they are getting if they spend their money on one. Thanks for watching!

I just got one of these. If you are aiming at something below you the balls roll out. This Is Really BAD@@AlternateArmsSD
See! That's what I'm talking about! It handles like a pistol should! Now, if only my mags would release and falk on the ground of their own accord! This platform deserves better. I'm gonna keep it anyway. HDR 50s aren't as repair friendly. I just NEED PARTS!!!!
@AlternateArmsSD I was completely surprised by the way it dropped cleanly into my hand. Instant motor memory and acquisition of target resulted it several direct hits on the first round at 20 yards. It's weak, however, and needs a little love on the internals. I "slathered it in oil love," and the dirt came flowing out!. Wearing in the mag release is problematic. It still makes an audible hard click when it is pushed hard enough to insert and lock the mag home. Then if you look at it funny, itll fall out before you can fire a round.😮
Due to this video, I bought the lancer scorpion. At 12 ft distance it put a good dent in sheet metal using the nylon balls. Haven't tried the rubber rounds. The pepper rounds are very potent. I got the full kit for $139. Amazon warranty sucks. But warranty is thru lancer for one year. I carry this. Police know it and love it. Actually had one cop asked to check it out and is interested in getting for his family. They carry Burna. But he wants something he can afford for his family
This is the closest operating platform to a real pistol, without the operating slide and mechanisms. The clips, look like clips. They release and insert like pistol mags (with some problems), and provided you don't breath on the mag release, it'll clean the mag faster than any Umerex product I've had. But the 250 fps is pisswater weak. Easily up graded with a little port and polish work. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't hurt to disassemble it first, and use some light mineral oil to flush out the dirt and metal shavings. Good platform, poorly assembled. Where have we heard that before?
@@brotre3 depending on the round you use! Plastic barrels may not like metallic rounds, but mine loves the hell out of aluminum round balls! I'm gonna get em good and hot, and hit em with a light coat of liquid graphite. Then a very light coat inside the barrel. It'll be whatever it'll be, but I've done this before with the bottom line JT ER2, and it started hitting much harder than I had any idea a cheap plastic marker could ever hit!
I bought my sister this gun a few months ago. She kept it in her purse and hoped to never use it. Earlier this week she was being followed in a parking garage by two men. She was able to reach the gun in her purse and get her hand on it as they were following her. They matched her paces and began running towards her. She turned around and aimed the gun at them. That alone caused them to back off. She immediately called the police and the men were apprehended less than an hour later. One of them was a convicted r*pist who had been out of prison for a little over a month. The other was a registered offender for crimes related to children. They claimed they were only going to rob her, but we all know damn well what they were planning. My sister has called me crying multiple times thanking me for giving her this gun. She never even needed to fire it and it saved her from something terrible happening.
@@ghostfacepanda brother, this is exactly what people need to see. I don’t think they understand when I say things like “cowards tend to flee from force”. Criminals are typically looking for victims that are not willing to fight back. I’m so glad your sister is ok and that she had the foresight to grab the launcher and was ready to use it! Tell her that she is in our thoughts over here!
The stock Umarex HDP50, before doing your valve block mod, is in the mid 300fps range; whereas, this Lancer Tactical Scorpion is only launching in the mid 200fps in stock form. Also, I have read quite a few complaints online regarding the Scorpion's safety coming apart and the launcher not holding air. I very much appreciate seeing this test of the Lancer Tactical Scorpion, but I'm sticking with the Umarex HDP50; good quality, value, and performance. Thanks, Jon! Awesome as always!
Absolutely, that one’s on my radar as well. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, after the balls rolled out of the front I was a little bit wary, but at the end of the day it worked well. Thank you so much for watching!
Yeah it takes a little getting use to and some practice but you might want to check out the salt supply S2. It’s a brutal launcher and very affordable.
Just picked up the Euro version the Concorde defender .50 and I love the construction and position of the magazine and c02. That's how all .50cals should operate in my opinion. The weight is great, The trigger pull is good, the size is convenient and I have big hands. Ambidextrous safety. I'd love if they release one with a steel barrel. I'd also love if they released various versions. A 1911 version would be fantastic. Could probably print a pica-tiny under-mount for a laser. Velocity can be adjusted via a screw just behind the hammer. It may or may not be as strong as the Umarex .50cals but it is definitely not a cheap build quality. It's bumped up in price since the time of this video but I can understand due to it's build and use of External magazines which are also quality. There's what looks like an alan screw under and a phillip's screw on the rear sights which release it from the top slide to gain access to the internals.

@@laidbck2x172 Yes there is a velocity adjustment to change it a bit on the back of the weapon. It’s not a great deal of change though. It won’t first shaped projectiles because of the way the magazine feeds. Thanks for watching!
Have you tried to make a 3-D printed bottom piece because in the night or from a slight distance away this could look like a firearm to a potential robber with a added part on the valve
Great video. Really interested in this gun. However... Amazon cannot ship it to my California address. Not only this one, but many of the others you have tested. That just blows. But... you have the best reviews on RUclips. Thanks.
No problem here they delivered just fine - haven't tried the gun out yet but hoping there is an easy mod for more fps - I like the features and size is just right for carrry
Not the scorpion. There are a few different versions that will, but not after modification. Take a look at the first strike, Roscoe, hdp50, tr50s, and maybe the HDR68. They work with paint balls until you modify them, then they become too powerful and will just rupture the paintball in the barrel.
Make sure that you have the bottom caps secured. That is a seal that holds a great deal of pressure so make sure it’s very very tight. Also, the nice thing about these, if you can, release pressure without having to open that seal. If that still doesn’t work, verify where the leak is coming from. If it’s coming from inside the weapon, or the seal is still leaking after you verify that it is tight, I’d say return it as it would be defective.
I'm sorry, I think these pistols are a great idea, but until they crank up the velocity a bit, I dont think I'll buy one. And I realize that these pistols arent intended to leave penetration wounds, but if you have an assailant coming at you with anything more than a light jacket, these rounds arent gonna do anything to him except make him more angry. They should make these pistols much more powerful. And I mean to the point where each shot can literally put him down. 200-300 FPS is not powerful enough. ESPECIALLY if they are advertising this for "family safety". They have the means, so make these pistols more powerful! Otherwise, I think you do a great job. Thanks for your work!
Greets! Yeah, They are limited to the release velocity on a 12G cartridge. They could release a GB version or a small PCP version and that would certainly be more powerful but would get dangerously close to lethal. I have tested the .43 and .50 cal on foam and padding and the pepper balls did rupture at 25 feet. That would be the point of the weapon. If using a solid ball, I'd certainly aim for a "soft target". I am going to test several types of ammo on the next video (One of which worries me greatly). Thanks for watching!
@@tomackerman8447 Yeah I agree. I love the scorpion. It feels great, looks great, and fires like a dream but a bit more punch is always good. I’m going to look into modifying one at some point in the future.
What pepper ball pistol do you recommend for self defense? I’m worried the balls falling out could slow down a reaction and cause hesitation and give a predator a moment to attack
Greetings! A well-built pepper ball launcher does not have that issue. They have a device internally, called a detent, which holds the round in place in preparation for firing. Look forward in my videos at the salt supply S2 or the Byrna. Also, the Umarex HDP 50 is a fantastic option for power and price.
@@AlternateArmsSDthank you Bryna is so expensive And i like it to look all black to “scare” a predator into thinking it’s a real gun, the Umarex only comes with the orange top i see
@@Arlene_witha_y actually, they could be dyed quite easily. In fact, I have a full video on how to do it, and I actually sell them in black. You might take a look at the salt supply as well though.
I haven’t torn one down yet but it’s coming. Mercury rise also has the exact same gun called the MUB50. They are supposed to be sending me one for testing. Stay tuned :)
Well, that depends on your needs and preferences. This is one of the “cost effective” solutions. I have the prices listed on each one of the videos. Take a look and see what you think. The pepperball tcp was the most powerful out of the box. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!
Fluke? Why would someone play with full action until charged and ready. I would think it is not that bad that the action releases the round (or frees the round). Conversely, other pistols don't release the round until full action and substantial pressure behind the round because the round is held until released by full pressure? I may be mistaken... MarkMannM2
I wish Milsig would find a western distributor for their P10 magfed pistol currently you can only get it in Taiwan but they have released a nerf version called the Hydron bassically a slimmer version of the FSC
@@AlternateArmsSD it would be redundant because the HDP/HDR/HDS systems all have a purge at the back of the weapon, but not having to use the Allen key would be an improvement.
@@Inuhanyou84 well, in my experience, you don’t have to crank that thing down so tight that you have to use the Allen key. If you simply screw it in until it stops naturally, that is generally enough pressure. Then, when it gets low enough, you can pull the trigger while simultaneously pressing the release valve on the back of the gun. That will cause the pressure to release to a point where you can unscrew the cap again. I just really dig that little twisting release :-)
I love your videos and appreciate the insight reviews! Can you provide me with a link to get the Lancer Scorpion for under $100 like you said in the video?

HELP!! Can you contact Lancer? Airsoft Megastore isnt returning my messages either! I need parts!!I bought a Lancer Scorpion .50.I falls into the hand nicely and works more like a familiar powder burner. However, Im having "touchy mag syndrome!" I've cleaned the original and gotten it to "wear in, " but the mag release is funky. It blocks mag insertion unless the button release is held in place for the entire loading process. I pulled it out of my holster to show skmeone, and the mag hit the floor! Not a good first impression. Plus, it wouldn't be hard to up the velocity with the adjustment screw and lock nut provided at the firing pin! A little porting and polishing of the expansion valve should up the fps about 50 fps. I hope you can help? The gunsmith is my last resort. I don't like the way they look at me and haven't found one who'll touch it.😢

I haven't disassembled it YET... When I get it apart, and come up with a good procedure, I'll make a video. It is a good looking and affordable piece though!
Im curious about the loading mechanism. So, it just fell out with the slight trigger pull and shake? When the rounds are in the mag, does it have enough tension to hold in place without them all popping out? Thats a problem and dealbreaker if not. Only reason id opt for this over the HD50 is mag load.
Greetings!! Alas, that was user error.. The round chambers when you insert the magazine and is held in place by the trigger. When you pull the trigger, whether there is C02 or not, it releases one round each trigger pull. It won’t release the round randomly. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!

the hdr 50 ,has a air release just push the indicator in the same one that tells you the gun is charged. I believe the hdp50 is the same .
Yes it does. It’s also a great way to release the left over pressure when you are running out of CO2.
Also, I enjoyed your video very much. I have ordered the pistol from your Amazon link.
Thanks Brother!
The first time I tried when I hit the bottom to activate the co2 it leaked out but will try again maybe not enuff pressure when I hit it
Make sure that you have the bottom caps secured.
Something to think about getting in the future
Brother, I appreciate all suggestions. I’ve gotten more great ideas from viewers than I could’ve ever thought about my own :-) you guys are great!
good review as always
Thanks man! This one was a surprise :) At one point, I thought I had a dud! :)
John, can the Lancer Scorpion use aluminum rounds that are not rubber coated?
It sure can.
You need to look into the First Strike FSC
@@homeagent it’s on my list but it’s pretty expensive. Soon though :)
@@AlternateArmsSD get ready for some real power. wear safty glasses!!!
@@homeagent Yeah Im gonna upgrade the old sunglasses at this point ;)
I just read the @solreavir note below. Can the velocity / power on the Lancer Scorpion .50 be adjusted?
Not easily. There is an interesting option though that JUST came in and we will be testing it Monday!
@@AlternateArmsSD could be a deal breaker.😄
@@tomackerman8447 Yeah I agree. I love the scorpion. It feels great, looks great, and fires like a dream but a bit more punch is always good. I’m going to look into modifying one at some point in the future.
I appreciate your reviews but recent Amazon buyer comments do not look good.
Hey Brother! You know, I saw that too. I didn't have any of those issues though. I wonder if it was a recent run of them.
@@AlternateArmsSD I'm looking for a source for the hpd 50, full size. Any recommendations? Everywhere I checked was either oos or bo.

Thanks man! I love my channel and I promise to keep trying to improve each video for you!
@@AlternateArmsSDthank you
Bryna is so expensive
And i like it to look all black to “scare” a predator into thinking it’s a real gun, the Umarex only comes with the orange top i see
@@Arlene_witha_y actually, they could be dyed quite easily. In fact, I have a full video on how to do it, and I actually sell them in black. You might take a look at the salt supply as well though.
what about mods for better velocity? I like the gun as it's a perfect size for carry
I haven’t torn one down yet but it’s coming. Mercury rise also has the exact same gun called the MUB50. They are supposed to be sending me one for testing. Stay tuned :)
Good video Jon
Thanks!
Good morning where can i get the complete co2 piercer for this gun
You’re looking for just the punch cap?
What is the best
Well, that depends on your needs and preferences. This is one of the “cost effective” solutions. I have the prices listed on each one of the videos. Take a look and see what you think. The pepperball tcp was the most powerful out of the box. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!
Fluke? Why would someone play with full action until charged and ready. I would think it is not that bad that the action releases the round (or frees the round). Conversely, other pistols don't release the round until full action and substantial pressure behind the round because the round is held until released by full pressure? I may be mistaken... MarkMannM2
You are absolutely correct! The detent isn’t very tight though which caught me a tad off guard :) Thanks for watching!
I wish Milsig would find a western distributor for their P10 magfed pistol currently you can only get it in Taiwan but they have released a nerf version called the Hydron bassically a slimmer version of the FSC
SO DO I!! Id LOVE to review one on the channel! I did pick up a few new toys last week though. I'm in the process of setting up the videos.
Hey John, I was wondering if you can mod this like the hpd 50
Hey Brother! I haven’t dug into it yet but I’ll take a peek.
So did you ever try the cap from the Scorpion on the HDP/HDR?
That is ssooo funny you asked that!! I have a video planned :)
@@AlternateArmsSD no argument there. The twist on the cap looked easier to press than the purge on the Umarex line.
I tried it the other night. No dice. The cap for the Scorpion is too short and won't thread properly.
im lookin for a scorpion ???
They are pretty cool! I actually located the manufacturer of the scorpion. I have their version on order! Stay tuned!
I love your videos and appreciate the insight reviews! Can you provide me with a link to get the Lancer Scorpion for under $100 like you said in the video?
I sure can! amzn.to/3zthDD2
@AlternateArmsSD So I went ahead and bought the yellow Sabre Home Defense Launcher Pistol but co2 air escapes as I remove the magazine to reload. Any advice on that? Also do you know of any holsters it may fit? The launcher is huge!!! Twice the size or more of my Glock 17!!!
@@AlexTheHecticLesson90 Hey Alex! That's normal. You shouldn't lose all of the C02 but a small amount.
@@AlternateArmsSD Do you know of any holsters it may fit? The launcher itself is huge!
@@AlexTheHecticLesson90 yeah, strangely enough I’m going to be looking into that shortly. I have an idea, but I want to verify before I tell you.
Would you prefer this or the hornet for concealed carry?
Between those two, I would definitely go with the scorpion.
Idk which umarex you're meaning but mine all hold 6 not 8 but needless to say im intrigued
Greets! The TR50 and all of the walther, Glock, s&w, and HK T4e all hold 8. Thanks for watching!
@@AlternateArmsSD thanks...all still .50 cal ?
I have t4e hdp50 and hdr both hold 6 .50 cal rounds only reason for questions also could u test paintballs to see if they burst

I don't like the way they look at me and haven't found one who'll touch it.😢
@@hldelling55delling75 Interesting note on this…. Lancer has more or less ghosted me as well. That’s why we haven’t had more of their products on the channel. I don’t know what’s going on over there.
can you get a different base plate for the magazine so its level with the pierce valve?

Negligent discharges have never been more cute with less leathal weapons
ROFL! Yeah, that caught me by surprise as well. I had never seen that happen before. Fortunately, it didn’t happen during testing. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!
Can the valve block be removed from this gun, like the HDP .50?
Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!

its a weapon ,,,,if you pull the trigger it can fire,,, you were not familiar with the mechanicles and thinking it was safe because you hadn't put in co2
Greetings! Actually, without C02, these are paperweights. They couldn't fire a round if you tried :) All that happens is that one is released, mechanically, into the chamber and just rolls out the end :) Without C02, You'd be better off throwing it ;)
Now thats strange...its the exact same gun than the concorde defender 50cal self defense gun marketed in France. Huge deception, extremely underpowered (max 7.5j) and mediocre quality. especially when there's HDRs 50 68 and HDP50 but it comes in a nice suitcase with co2 canisters and 50cal balls cutouts.
its rather strange to see that the brand "concorde defender", thats responsible for very popular self defense guns is buying unbranded products from a 3rd part manufacturer and just slaps their brand on it and add a nice suitcase with a plaque on it and call it a day.
Greetings! I have seen A LOT of that in the self-defense line lately. There is a lot of, shall we say, "borrowing" from other brands. Still, you can detect the cheap shortcuts that the knockoffs take relatively easily. I have a couple more like that to test. Thanks for watching!
