Thanks for re-posting this in 4K. The lane side view you have in this video is PERFECT. Please use that for your future videos. Really lets us see the ball motion.
Love how you mentioned stuff towards the "lower rev guys". 90% of us that follow you and other Pro Bowlers and the guys that do ball reviews fall into that category. It looks awesome seeing someone throw a ball 20+ mph and 450+ revs but in order to better help us pick some new balls to purchase we need to see it more from the perspective of a bowlers skill we can relate to.
I’m a two handed bowler with a really high rev rate and just picked up a ghost. This ball is teaching me a lot about what I’m doing wrong for sure. I tend to play high rev and come around the ball more. I was playing with a storm tropical surge, so even coming around I was playing around 10 boards. With my new widow, I am playing around 25 boards with a break point around 10 and still hitting Brooklyn more than not. Now I need to work on control of my release to fully utilize this very strong ball. I’m excited to learn. Though you can’t deny how satisfying it is to watch a ball whip back at nearly a 90 degree angle and destroy the pins. Editing to add, I used a video I took and the storm charts to find I have roughly a 16.36 balls speed and 528 rev rate.
I’m a 2 hander as well and I have the same experience with my first ball. I’ve only had it for a couple months and I was getting really discouraged because it seemed as no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to hook enough to not play straight. After a lot of back and forth with friends and the pro shop owner, I realized I have to work on getting under the ball more and my release in general. Now I’m getting more comfortable with my ball and I’m realizing sometimes it’s not the ball or the lane but what adjustments you need to mAke.
I love this ball! Bought one last year. #15 with a pin down configuration and it’s never disappointed in almost all lane conditions. The Only thing I don’t like is how dirty it gets after the first three or four frames. Might just be my OCD too though..😅
Big Fan of your bowling ball reviews since you were on Staff. In your videos you take your time and explain alot on what you are doing and about the balls reaction. I like that, keep up on terrific broadcasting the new bowling bal.
Thank you for this great ball review. I really enjoy watching all your videos. I was going to buy the new Hammer Effect for my Pearl Asym Ball, but now I'm thinking of switching my purchase to the Hammer Ghost Pearl. I am a low rev bowler and I think this ball would be better suited for my game.
Ordered mine and getting it drilled today with that same layout. I'm a low rev player so to hear him recommend it for a low rev bowler lets me know I was on the right track decision-wise. Looking forward to using this baby tonight. I had a white dot back in the 90's playing in HS competition so theres gonna be some fun nostalgia factor watching this girl roll
Excellent review! Thank you for taking the time to be thorough. I've been using the Ghost for about six months. I have a lower rev rate and have no issues with this ball getting to the pocket from the far right. Pin carry is crazy. Almost feels like cheating with the scores I'm seeing with this ball. ;-)
Another good video JR 🙂 I had a thought though. You said that the Ghost would be better for those with a lower rev rate, or even a really high rev rate. Maybe Dr. G should give this ball a review too? I think it would be a good comparison between the different rev rates. Just my opinion of course 🙂
This ball goes through the pins like a mack truck. I too put the black thumb and grips in and quickly switched to clear. When you are a low rev player this thing looks like it is just chugging down the lane with colored grips. Much more visually appealing with thre clear.
6:46 JR what do you mean when you and other bowlers say "blend the lane out" or "blend it out?" I've heard you and many others say that as well as all kinds of other bowling lingo and I have no idea what you guys mean. I've been bowling in leagues for 30+ years and I'm still clueless. 😆
Question please. Because of a weak wrist and my age I use a 12 lb ball I have bought the Black Widow Ghost. Should I expect the same performance from the 12 lb as the 15 lb? Is the internal system the same or not? Thanks Gary
I really enjoy watching your videos. Mostly due to you bowling from all angles on the approach. I bowl in several leagues and in regional tournaments. I mostly bowl with Motiv equipment but I also like to experiment with other brands.
What lane surface is at that house? Lately your reviews there have had balls read SO early and flat… doesn’t seem to look like what it looks like at most other places. Just being honest-it’s super hard to great a sense of what the ball does. I appreciate the effort though
I have been bowling with the 2.0 since last August, and struggle with it, just can't be consistent with the hook on it, so after watching several reviews, understanding what the differences are between covers and what they heck all these reviews mean, I decided to buy a Ghost. First three frames were strikes! I took my Bionic off for the last game as I felt that it was hindering me, and I was right. For the past few weeks I struggled to break 100, and last night my first game was following that trend with the 2.0 and the Ghost got finished by the 8th frame, so used it to complete the game and a turkey then a 9. The next game was with the Bionic on, and it was better than I have been doing, partially due to me not realizing I was miscounting where I was starting on the left lane due to it being slightly different where they installed the screw plugs, but once I discovered my mistake, I was able to get more consistent in that lane too. Went above average in that game. Took off the Bionic in the last game and bowled 20 over average! I think this is the ball I have been looking for, I don't have to put a lot of cup in the wrist for it to come in, and thats where I struggled with the 2.0 as my wrist is weak from Arthritis. Overall very happy with the results. Now to work on being consistent on my throw now that I don't have to focus so much on my wrist.
just picked up one, haven't got it drilled yet, cant wait to use it. I'm using the Legend right now, will be good to have a different ball in the arsenal. Thanks for the vid. Definitely 1 more Sub.
So I love your channel, I just purchased a BW pearl 15 lb and I asked the pro shop should I go with the 45x4 1/2x 45?? I told him I would like to stay in the 5 board to 15 board area and he said I should go with a 6x5x5 1/2. I haven’t a clue. I would appreciate your opinion on this issue? Thx Kelly
Now I'm rethinking my desire for the UC3. Lol. Might add this and an Obsession solid to compliment the Obsession Tour Pearl in the bag. Hammer is definitely forcing me to learn to bowl better, and it is working. In 3 weeks I went from struggling at 130's (after a 7 year hiatus) to now struggling at 190's and I'm getting better every time i hit the lanes. I'm hoping to make the cut next Saturday, but certainly will be making the TOC at the end of the sweeper series and should do well at another tournament the following week.
I have always found I like the Widows drilled pin down. But since I had Billy Sullivan drill me a full grip I have found that I get more lift and revs on my ball. Do you notice that also?
Because nobody was buying them. They still make the venom shock after several years because people still buy them. If microcell polymer had sold better, it would still be around.
Not really sure who throws a widow straight to the pocket anyways... Regardless of "color". Sounds like your just stuck at what speed and board you can throw at. This ball is phenomenal! Go with pin down it's alittle less clean.
I used to love the Black Widow, but they've come out with so many different versions of it, its virtually impossible now to differentiate between them anymore. I've given up on them.
Don’t have to buy every one that’s released. Most of us that have used the Black Widow series from the beginning can differentiate between pearl, solid and hybrid cover stocks. Averaged 241 the first 4 game set with this new ghost so I will just stick with them I guess 😆
I have been bowling off/on since 2015. I have been doing ok as far as curving the ball. I bowl with #10 to #12 pound balls. I just picked this ball up (#12) and I hope it will help improve my game. Thanks for this video. I am still learning the curve and right now keep my thumb out of the ball when doing so. Do you have videos that can help me finish learning to curve the correct way? My highest game so far has been 209 but I average 150 to 180.
Pigment has literally nothing to do with the reaction of the ball. Can we stop saying certain colors of balls do certain things. Instead say I personally like seeing colors going down the lane.
And I believe his 1st ball was down the right and it “took off”... I have a Ghost.. It’s a beast and I don’t play right with it... I use it most when someone is playing right with a urethane and I stay inside of them with the Ghost .,
I'm liking these two different camera angles this is cool. Keep it up looking good enjoying the content.
I like the side layout explaining what your doing. Your videos are getting better with your content as well. Thanks JR

.ales me feel less of a man when called a "Lower Rev Guy".

Fantastic video JR. Commentary, different camera angles, and explaining what works for you, when and WHY, all on point. So helpful. Thanks!
I have this ball. I love it. The carry for me has been insane.
Seems to work pretty well for Tommy Jones, too.
Ditto, one of the most versatile balls in my arsenal.
I love this ball! Bought one last year. #15 with a pin down configuration and it’s never disappointed in almost all lane conditions. The Only thing I don’t like is how dirty it gets after the first three or four frames. Might just be my OCD too though..😅

I just got this Ball was waiting for you to review your always the first I come too for review love em
Love the new camera angles JR! Best reviews going!
I just got one of these 3 days ago from the day I commented this comment and I can’t wait to use it!

Am getting this ball pretty soon really excited to use this ball very soon it will be my first black widow bowling ball

Wow.. you got the uber old Brunswick scorers. I remember when we got these in the 90s.
Another good video JR 🙂 I had a thought though. You said that the Ghost would be better for those with a lower rev rate, or even a really high rev rate. Maybe Dr. G should give this ball a review too? I think it would be a good comparison between the different rev rates. Just my opinion of course 🙂
JR, if you get a chance drill another one 65x5x40. I've never been a fan of long pins but that layout is amazing with this ball
This ball goes through the pins like a mack truck. I too put the black thumb and grips in and quickly switched to clear. When you are a low rev player this thing looks like it is just chugging down the lane with colored grips. Much more visually appealing with thre clear.

Would you use this ball on the burn or the fresh?
Is the color thing based on pigments used? I heard this from another bowler.
I know my comment is a little late, but I would love to see this ball compared to the original Hammer Black Widow Pearl (if you can find one...)!
Question please. Because of a weak wrist and my age I use a 12 lb ball I have bought the Black Widow Ghost. Should I expect the same performance from the 12 lb as the 15 lb? Is the internal system the same or not? Thanks Gary

Will it work on wood lanes?

Current arsenal is the BW 2.0, BW Ghost, BW Legend, Scorpion and Raw Pearl. All money 💰

Also does my ball hav to be a fingertip?? Thx Kelly
Everyone and they mama just about got this ball
How would you compare this ball to the Motiv Iron Forge? Trying to decide between one of these pearls.
Now I'm rethinking my desire for the UC3. Lol. Might add this and an Obsession solid to compliment the Obsession Tour Pearl in the bag.

Great review. But when I can't see your face, all I can hear is.....Tim Conway. 😜
I have always found I like the Widows drilled pin down. But since I had Billy Sullivan drill me a full grip I have found that I get more lift and revs on my ball. Do you notice that also?
My 2.0 and ghost are drilled pin down. They are continuous and the pin carry is sick.
Just bought mine!
How do you think the 12LB Ghost will perform without the gas mask core?
Why did Motiv stop making microcell polymer? I loved the tank line
Because nobody was buying them. They still make the venom shock after several years because people still buy them. If microcell polymer had sold better, it would still be around.
If thats waterford lanes in mi thats where i grew up i was just therre last week
What would be a stronger layout
Saw Tommy Jones throwing this and made it look great!
Older bowling center but looks to be well taken care of
How does this ball react with. oil carry down
Not really sure who throws a widow straight to the pocket anyways... Regardless of "color". Sounds like your just stuck at what speed and board you can throw at. This ball is phenomenal! Go with pin down it's alittle less clean.
Looks good for heavy oil house shot
how did you set this ball up
how would this work with the dark code?
But did you ever throw a widow sting?
I have the Hybrid the Overseas and love it as well as the Overseas Purple...Not sure I need the Ghost... ;)
What is the weight?
Sweet tee
I have been bowling off/on since 2015. I have been doing ok as far as curving the ball. I bowl with #10 to #12 pound balls. I just picked this ball up (#12) and I hope it will help improve my game. Casual Friday, JR?
Yeah I’ve been casual the last 6 months lol
Forgive me but what does it mean to "trap" a ball?
Keep it in front of you. Get it to hook early and be smooth all the way down lane with tight angles
@@Tenpindoctors Thanks JR.. good luck to me then because hook early and me don't exist
Nice touch Mr. Raymond! Diggin' the multiple views. My only beef.........you're not a lefty! :)
Can't the ball be drilled for less hook
is it me or does this lane look really dry?
Cool video talk to tech bowling Jr y
How would this ball compare to reality or altered reality
Or dark code
I have the Ghost and my son has the Altered Reality, the AR is strong and angular where the Ghost is more continuous from my observation.
Pigment has literally nothing to do with the reaction of the ball. Can we stop saying certain colors of balls do certain things. Instead say I personally like seeing colors going down the lane.
Different colors react different lol don't talk out of your ass
looks like he has a surface on the ball ....
This ball is hard to use
That guy is not making sense no way no how the bowling ball acts like it’s going to I don’t think so
Also not once did he throw it to the right. Down Lane he's hitting the middle of the lane. Terrible review
You obviously don't watch many of his videos.
And I believe his 1st ball was down the right and it “took off”... I have a Ghost.. It’s a beast and I don’t play right with it... I use it most when someone is playing right with a urethane and I stay inside of them with the Ghost .,
