I’d loved to have seen Shamrock vs Kurt Angle.
Angle stole his ankle lock move
@@sc30002001 then Swagger stole angles
@@SteelSunday yes but Kurt was vocal about stealing finishing moves
Hellyeah I'd also like to see them go in a mma match
I remember playing No Mercy and wishing Shamrock V Angle would happen
Shamrock was a totally underrated part of the attitude era, he had an excellent match with Taker at Backlash back in the day.
The one thing people don't understand is that Ken was a pro-wrestler before his MMA days, he worked in local promotions and for Fujiwara even before getting in Pancrase or the UFC. He had the mentality of a worker, he just needed bookers to work personally with him.
Plus having worked with some of the top grapplers like Suzuki and Funaki gave him an edge in style that nobody in America had at the time. But nobody cared for that kind of style. Makes it all the more sad. :(
Exactly everyone seems to forget that
He was in the WWF before, too! Ditto for Steve Blackman.
@@DropkickNation Thats the reason why i fucking hate 90s American Wrestling Jeezuz Entertaiment, Entertaiment, Entertaiment, Soap Opera, Entertaiment and complete forget whats a good wrestler should Know. Fuck Entertaiment, Fuck Soap Opera, Fuck Storylines, a Wrestler should be a Wrestler first before anything else. I wished the MMA and workrate thing were over in the 90s. That would be soo good. Lets make a star, LETS MAKE A STAR, yeah but when you make a star he will be to big for wrestling and will go away. The Star Concept only fuction a little bit of time at the time period one of the main reason why the Atittude Era was so short lived, its not a good concept for the long run. We had such good fucking people that would make ton of money, really cool guys like shamrock, severn, Funaki, Steve Williams etc. over the years. What for awesome matches you could book with them
yeah like brock lesnar
Ken Shamrock was an amazing wrestler! He was clearly under used by WWF....
They can only use so many people on top at any given time. Given the other stars that were there in his era, he just got crowded out. That's just how it goes sometimes.
Well you had the Rock coming up as IC champ. And multiple times Ken failed to beat the Rock. You had DX coming up in popularity and Stone Cold not wanting to face him when he was champion. So Ken was in a bad spot no matter what.
He really wasn't, they built him strong, he just left pretty quickly
@@CavemanJesus4Life he won kotr
@@CavemanJesus4Life True that, sir👍 The WWF had a ton of talent at that time. Ken Shamrock had an uphill battle from the get-go, even though he was a UFC badass
His feud with the rock was great. It gave the rock some of his best heel heat, cheating to beat a legit fighter and brag pissed everyone off.
RetroNerdLife
That's how Rocky Maivia became The Rock.
Shamrock was a guy I overlooked as a 10 year old, but appreciate WAY more now. Blackman was always my fave back in the day, and he's another guy I have even more respect for now. Severn as well! How underrated in WWE they were.
I’ve always thought that Shamrock would have fared even better in the Ruthless Aggression since that era focused more on work rate rather than promos. And imagine the match ups we could have seen: Angle, Lesnar, Benoit, Guerrero, Benjamin, RVD.
Shamrock was a legit badass back than. Better than Brock Lesnar.
makaveli 420 first mma fighter before Brock
Brock is a legit badass though. Not only that, but he has muscles on his muscles. I would have loved to see Ken come in and take the title off Brock though when Brock was universal champion instead of Seth.
MSFxBigBossxFOX -PSN- but ken was actually a good mma fighter. Brock was given a ufc title shot after going 1-1 because he could get buys, then he got his shit pushed in by Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. Brock looks big but he’s a mediocre mma fighter with a lot of name recognition
@@abelmendez2527 you not smart are you
@@abelmendez2527 and Ken got KO'd by Kimbo Slice sooo yea. Ken was not the 1st MMA wrestler he was just the first in WWF. Brock was a animal as a Collegiate athlete which is well-documented. He also got a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings off the strength of his name what's wrong with that? That's what you do when these types of businesses you build your name up to gain opportunities. Brock Lesnar was signed by UFC as an attraction so obviously they were going to use him as such not bury him in the midcard. And one of those fights you're talkin about that Brock Lesnar lost you really had no time to train as well as the fact he was sick. Also Ken Shamrock fought in UFC when UFC was a totally different style of fighting. It was not the trendy thing it is now and basically anybody who thought they were tough enough no pun intended could fight. They had long rounds and the fights we're not very entertaining all the time. That is why Dana White implemented the round system in the UFC because some of these fight would go on and on forever with the fighter using rest holds. Both Brock Lesnar and Ken Shamrock are tough mofos. Even if Brock Lesnar was given a title shot in UFC he still won it right?? His point was to prove the fake wrestler could beat someone's ass in the octagon.
I met shamrock this year, great guy!
I used to pick Shamrock in Wrestlemania 2000 for N64.
PumpkinsDontCry I always used him on guys I didn’t like every time I made a caw of him on my svr collection
Ken Shamrock should have been brought back in TNA (GFW) when Kurt Angle was signed to the company. A Ken Shamrock vs. Kurt Angle match would have been great. I almost forgot Ken Shamrock was a former NWA-TNA (GFW) World Champion.
blackstruggle77
It would have been awesome.
Also I don't know why he never came back to wrestling after 2002 but in recent interviews he said "I don't know why WWE don't brought me back"
No no he shouldnt not at that age Angle shouldnt of been wrestling in TNA given his back and neck are basically held together with duct tape.
Lost to R Truth
I still want to hear more about his TNA days. Like why he didn't wrestle Severn for the NWA title or why TNA never brought him back.
Severn wouldn't have jobbed to Ken, and vice versa.
Tim Chesnut because TNA was run by hicks. Jarrett put the belt on himself.
Dude, Jarrett made TNA just so he can be champ.
Being that big of a mark for himself didn't do him that many favors in the end.
People forget Jarrett was a world champ in wcw and sold many t-shirts he drew a little bit contrary to popular belief he wanted to start TNA to keep working and try to compete with Vince since Vince wouldn't rehire him of course
So to put it in a nutshell, Jim Cornette would have booked Ken Shamrock the way WCW booked Goldberg. Sounds apt!
Shamrock should've been a World Champ...seriously, just work a little bit of a promo..or just have a manager doing the talking for him and just let Shamrock does his Berserker thing, he would've been perfect. Heck, Brock and Heyman is what Shamrock could've been. Shame he didn't get to ascend to Main Event status.
According to Jim Ross Ken wasn't always reliable and no showed a few times. Probably why Vince never fully went with Ken as a champion. His promo skills were lacking but his believability should have made up for it.
Shamrock is lucky they didn't put him in a pink tutu or have him pretend he was a plumber.
Hey cheapest gimmick ever just a hard hat and a plunger
Vince would have just called him “Shamrock,” dyed his hair & facial hair bright red, put him in bright green top hat & suspenders, with knee high white socks & black leather leprechaun shoes. He would have talked with a horribly cartoonish Irish accent, carried a plastic pot of “gold” and his finishing move would have been the “Figure Four Leaf Clover.” McMahon would become furious backstage on the headset if Shamrock didn’t loudly scream, “ME FINISHING MOVE IS GONNA HURT YA NOW, LAD!” just before applying the Figure Four Leaf Clover in every single one of his matches.
@@Voysh2Voysh69 Vince McMahon is Irish. He wouldn’t do something like that

Shamrick should be in the Hall of Fame.
Ken Shamrock was a fucking beast he should have been bigger then he was in the WWF he could have been a great WWF Champion.Atleast he won the NWA Title in TNA shoot he could probably still go if Goldberg can lol wishful thinking. But Shamrock will always be one of my favorite Attitude era guys.
gamer dude 6:12 totally agree
When I think of EARLY attitude era, tehre are 3 people taht come to my mind, dont ask me why: Ken Shamrock, Steve Blackman, D'lo Brown
A Shamrock vs. Angle feud would've be nice
But they did promote Shamrock as legit badass. He had same nickname in mma as wwe. They also did cage matches in actual octagons. Ken was over but he also came up in best and deepest era of all time
If WWE would bring back Shamrock, even in as an entrant in the Royal Rumble, I'd pop like crazy. Ken was awesome.
The misused him so badly. He looked great in 97 and had great matches.
One of my favorites of the 90s
Greatest memory of Ken Shamrock was when he wrestled The British Bulldog in the “dogfood match” and during it bulldog smacked shamrock with the dogfood and Shamrock SNAPPED! Started suplexing and beating up everyone in sight! And then eventually choked out bulldog and made him turn purple. Made it look so legit. Was always a great moment. Scared the hell out of me at the time
Jake Carpentier that was actually a shoot...shamrock told them he didn't want to taste dog food...he really smashed that can on bulldog
Summer slam 97. I was in the 6th row.
Super Soakers were like nobel-level genius inventions back in my kid days
Shamrock would have worked well in New Japan Pro Wrestling during specific eras as well. When Antonio Inoki was using guys like Nobuhiko Takada, Akira Maeda, Koji Kitao, etc. Would have been interesting to see how Shamrock dealt with guys like Maeda & Kitao that were known pricks. Shamrock would have been cool to have seen in the AWA, like how Billy Robinson was used. Definitely agree with Cornette on the Florida/Graham & Mid-South/Watts being great for him as well.
Shamrock would have done much better in Japan. They made him look like a regular guy and not a monster.
Also WWF had the UFC before it was main stream and didn't even capitalized on it.. That's why Vince McMahon is an amazing genius promoter but an awful dumb booker..
Early UFC wasn't exactly good though.
Leo Grant better than what it is now
"Vince McMahon is an amazing genius promoter, but an awful dumb Booker."
This may be the most accurate and concise way to sum up WWE that I've ever heard.
I find it funny when hulk hogan claimed he helped with it
Thanks for the hard work.
Seeing as this was the WWF, I'm surprised they didn't dress him up as the Lucky Charms Leprechaun and teamed him up with The Red Rooster.
David Childers Lmao 😂😂😂😂
I loved when Ken teamed up with Boss Man.
When he called Undertaker, Mark, that was total bad ass. First time I ever saw a wrestler do that type of thing on WWF.
I remember as a kid loving Ken and thought he was awesome. That ankle lock looked like he was going to snap your ankle in two and looked a lot more real than Angle's.
ForeverRanger 91 it's a real submission move that he had used in ufc and it is effective if done properly
It was hard for me to take it seriously seeing Shamrock loose to someone, knowing full well he could destroy virtually every Superstar the WWE had.
I just imagine Jim telling Shamrock about how he's going get a few shots out of him to get some heat, and as soon as he's out of earshot calls his buddies and goes "Dude, I'm going to beat the fuck out of Ken Shamrock and record it for you!"
Yea
Although I was too young I liked ken. He seemed kinda cool too me
Shamrock's debut match with Vader was pretty good if i remember correctly? His fued with The Rock was alright too but thats about it as far as Ken's run in the WWF goes.
Yes. It was at the In your house PPV in May. The match got real, Ken broke Vader's nose and Vader also punched him for real because Ken was working stiff
Shamrock coulda been one of the greatest.
I remember how the crowd popped for him when he had that confrontation with Bret Hart after his Submission match with Austin at Wrestlemania 13. Shamrock was over from day one.
He was the first ever tna champion
It was actually the NWA World Championship that he won. TnA was part of the NWA at that time.
Vince Torelli aka Ken Shamrock look it up
Dream match: Submission Match: Ken Shamrock vs Chris Benoit.
If Ken Shamrock had come to the WWE a few years later (while being the same age when he first got there), he would have had a much higher ceiling. UFC blew up and got legit a few years after he left. Now here's this: imagine Ken having matches with the likes of Benoit, Eddie, Jericho, and Kurt freakin' Angle. He should have been bigger, but Vince didn't understand or see what UFC would become.
2 wrestlers that made 2 superstars we all know today. Shamrock had the best matches with The Rock
Savio Vega Had the best matches with Stone Cold.
Attitude Era had two of the toughest Shamrock and Blackman.
Except Austin himself says his best matches were with Bret Hart.
You want to see how much of a badass can Shamrock is, look up the match between gesture and Ken Shamrock in a straitjacket.
Should have bought him in the same way they bought in Kurt Angle.
His sister Ryan Shamrock was beautiful
JR said on his podcast that shamrock would have issues being on time and little things of that nature. Maybe that’s why he never hit his full potential
Shamrock was a beast
His ankle lock always looked brutal. He sold giving the hold very well
If Vince McMahon has ever fucked up, it was NOT having the Shamrock v Severn 3 Match! That would've been a MASSIVE money making PPV! I'll never understand that one?!
Ken was my favorite wrestler when I was a kid
He couldn't cut promos. 🎤😕
I always liked Ken.
Shamrock was a proficient worker with a one dimensional promo, his transition to pro wrestling from UFC was seamless in ring. From a marketing standpoint, there wasn't an awful lot that could of been done with him. If UFC was the monster then, that it is today, things could of been very different. Austin and Rock were perhaps his biggest blocker from the top tier as they were just so damn over in the attitude era.
They should've given him the role Big Bossman had with Vince so he wouldn't have to talk too much
I know I'm way late here but Shamrock was a pro wrestler before he did MMA. That's why his transition was so seamless.
Shamrock was my favorite UFC guy back then. I knew WWF wasn't going to treat him legit cuz he'd have owned room. 3/4 of that locker room
GET OUTTA MY WAY!!!!!!!
I always thought this guy had a lot of good matches with guys like Billy Gunn, The Rock, Steve Austin, Undertaker, etc. This guy was a really good wrestler. The least the WWE/F could have done was give Shamrock a run on top. All he was was just a mid-card guy nothing more nothing less. Not a mark, just stating my opinion.
Shamrock was great and definitely over. If wwe has pushed him it couldve been great
He should have been brought in somewhat similar to how Taker was brought in. As a surprise partner for a baby face who needed help against a monster heel team.
I really wished WWE would have done more with Ken Shamrock than they did. He's one of my favorite wrestlers next to Bret Hart.
Jim needs to upload that footage of him beating up Shamrock
Kouga The Wolf Pokemon but he hates gimmicks
Think it was before Ken was the World's Most Dangerous Man..so yeah, that's believable.
I know Ken Shamrock might've had some heat with WWF during his 2 year career over there but I seriously wish he could've had a run as World Champion. He could've been the 1st UFC Heavyweight Champion to become the WWF Heavyweight Champion & he could've been an even bigger name in pro wrestling.
Prime Ken is the legit toughest guy that ever stepped foot in pro wrestling. He wasnt just incredible at fighting, he was obsessed with it and obsessed with learning about it.
I think he was an asset to pro wrestling
I strongly disagree. He was booked very strong but he only stayed for 2 years! Plus he wrestled in the greatest Era of all time
Shamrock was very good WWF and booked strongly, but never seemed to get much recognition after he left to go back to NHB.
I was 13 when Ken challenged Shawn Michaels in the main-event at the DX PPV in December of 1997. I was a full on mark at the time. I loved Shawn and he turned heel months prior and it broke my heart. Like, literally. I wanted Ken to destroy Shawn. And if not for Austin's rise at the time it probably should have happened. But he did deserve to hold the title at least once. No one at the time was more credible then him.
"Ive got video of me beating up ken shamrock in the ring" mhmhmhm okay sir him selling for your touches isnt you beating him up. Lol
Can somebody explain why he's in Vince's doghouse?
@Jerry Thomas oh!
"Fuck that guy!" to anyone who steals these.
Shamrock v Blackman
Solid and stiff matches when not presented in a Lions Den match.
Why do we never see him on WWE tv? Is there heat now?
Ryan Benson the same three letters in sucession. Hhh
@@maxcadey9223 HHH should have been called the grave digger.
Fans started booing him in 98 when he was a babyface, so they turned him heel. His run just wasn't as good after that.
Underused and barely utilized. Legitimately tough, could have teamed him with severen and even Blackman.
You can talk about under utilizing Ken Shamrock or a plethora of other guys but the fact is in those days WWF had such a deep roster of guys and there are only so many spots on the card and only so many belts, only one true main event per card. They are always going to go with who they think they can make the most $$$ off of when it comes to booking and who they put a belt on as they should. Could they have used this guy or that guy better? Perhaps but they did pretty damned good with what they had at the time as it was. When you have guys like the Undertaker the Rock HHH and the list goes on all on the same card at once it is going to be pretty hard to compete against them as a performer and as a promoter/booker it is going to be hard to give everyone their just due.
Shamrock was born too early he was 40 by the time mma got popular
He's a huge reason why MMA blew up.
@@isitoveryet9525 it's a shame his best years were well behind him by the time he fought Tito the first time. His WWF run messed his body up big time. Still his popularity drew big numbers for the UFC when they were struggling.
I liked his sister
Giving a legitimate known fighter who goes by his actual name a kayfabe sister was so dumb...
Shamrock had one of the worst botches in wrestling in that story line too, when his sister froze up on camera and Ken audibly says "Slap me." before Ryan Shamrock hits him, it is very easy to hear. Can't remember what PPV that was, but it was a big screw up for sure. It wasn't edited out of the home release though, so WWF clearly didn't care too much.
TRJ2241987 st valentine's day massacre 1999 if i recall.. i remember hearing that on the VHS when i rented it from the video store! So bad and ryan shamrock was such an airhead - heard her on one of jr's podcast's i think last year and it was a trainwreck of an interview. So many ums, ahs and i dont knows to the questions poor jr was asking
Him selling a punch from Triple H eventhough the punch never touched him wasn't too much better.
TRJ2241987 lol I remember that. Me and my buddies were laughing about that for hours . I was like Ken you know the camera is on you like a foot away. Why would you do that?
Could shamrock comeback and pull a Goldberg deal?
EXPLISIT HIPHOP no
Easiest money in the world would’ve been Shamrock vs Dan Severn.
Shoulda been meta, as if he was beating top talent, title on him for like a year, fake shoots of him refusing to drop title etc. Even fired, sues, title back on him, then Undertaker beats him at wrestlemania in a grueling fake shoot. bloody battle. Era was ripe for it, especially with him. JR: "Sometimes in this business, someone takes things too far if you get what i'm saying. This man is off his rocker" Eluding to him beating guys against script. Was end of kayfabe, start of MMA mainstream intersection, SO shoulda been the angle.
maybe Im a dinosaur as a wrestling fan, but its like Sid Vicious was told: "when you think youre overreacting, youre prob not overreacting enough" and the outrageous and unbelievable sells, esp in the WWE..Vince always liked the cheap 80's movie storylines, Id have brought Shamrock in as bodyguard, or even as a hired gun to take out the babyface ideally a fake tough guy like Austin or legit tough guy like Severn or Angle..let those who watched wrestling an not UFC be like "who tf is this guy??". Sadly, the time he and Severn were in NY was the ideal time to segway into the more extreme brawling type, but typically, Vince missed it,
Imagine Ken Shamrock vs Kurt Angle. Or Brock Lesnar. or SAMOA JOE. Blood would pour down the streets.

They should of made ken like goldberd NVR selling testroying everyone on his way only thing ken could wrestle so he could b more with him and actually have matches with top guys hbk taker Bret Vader and maybe corney as his mouth pice cos his mic skills were bad 97 hbk handed ken a mic and said now ken this is called a microphone maybe u could string a few lines its called a sentence ken if ken didn't speak spoke in the ring corney spoke 4 him got him his heat I'd say he would of changed into a killer baby face if they put sum thought into him
Im a ufc fan. Ken Shamrock was a better wrestler than a fighter
In his heyday the only guy who could beat him was Royce Gracie in his prime.
You need to check out Pancrase. Just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it didn't happen...
Vince dropped the ball with this guy 🤦
I think he was held back by his lack of charisma tbh. At the time you had the likes of Austin and Rock on the main event who were both way more charismatic. He was a good wrestler and definitely had the physique Vince loves though.
Ken Shamrock should've been pushed the way Lesnar has. I'm a huge Lesnar fan but Shamrock was a bigger beast in his prime in the Ultimate Fighting world. The WWF misused him something terrible. He should've beaten everyone.
I think at the time WWE was afraid to push him because they thought it would make the UFC more popular than wrestling, and they wanted to show that the wrestlers could beat Shamrock.
Big missed opportunity. He came off scary legit and was Blackmon with personality.
Shamrock stayed in the MMA game too long. In his prime, he was the best in the world.
It hurts people to stay in too long. Its why lesnar didnt go back this time around. Getting your ass kicked hurts the credibility angle they are looking for in pro wrastlin with guys like this.
He could have been the Goldberg of the WWF, only way better
0:50 I don’t get why Cornette thinks Shamrock vs Severn would’ve been a big deal. It wouldn’t mean anything to wrestling fans, and the MMA fans wouldn’t care because it would’ve been presented in the realm of pro wrestling. Jim Cornette is a great mind in a lot of respects, but he’s really out of touch on a lot of things.
Dan and Ken didn't want to do the match on the WWF because they were 1-1 in the UFC and they thought that there was still money to be drawn if they wanted to go back, so having a wrestling match tainting the score wasn't something that they didn't want to do. He wasn't even on creative back then so of course he has no clue and he still dreams that Austin vs Steve Williams would do a huge buyrate lmao he's clueless
Ken always was a much better wrestler than martial artist. His run in MMA went south as fast as anyone in the sport.
WeCoolWeCool BOUNCE not in the early days of his career. He was the top guy for a while in MMA. True once he went back after his wwe career. He was too old and not the same guy. But in the early 90s. He was great .
talk about ignorance lol. Ken was great at both
Jay Burgess ken was never the top guy. He was the top for marketing though.
TNA did him right but WWF dropped the ball badly because Vince and everybody around him especially Russo were idoits that know nothing about wrestling! Ken was a legit shooter & Hooker and a real Pro Wrestler 💪💪💪
The dream matches:
Danielson vs shamrock
Hart vs Shamrock in a actual program
