- I show off this used 2013 Scion FR-S in Raven (black). I understand why people love this car. It’s so fun to drive and handles like it’s on rails. Power isn’t as bad as people make it out to be in my opinion, but it could use a good bump.
MSRP: Listed for $12,888 as of filming this (~$25,000 when new)
Engine: 2.0L Boxer 4-Cylinder (200hp, 151tq)
Rating: 7/10

This guy is steering while holding a camera and shifting, all while talking. What a beast
Haha thanks!
🤣that surprise you ? You don’t really drive stick do you ?
That's not hard, once you drive sick it's not hard, but driving while holding a camera in a auto or manual will still be annoying. It's important to keep your focus on driving and not filming m
What’s so hard
I bought one of those brand new back in 2013, loved the car! Mine was just like that one, basic with 6 speed manual transmission, mine was midnight blue, the only reason I got rid of it! Is because being a very light car with rear wheel drive wasn't a car made to be driven in bad snow weather or icy roads. At the time I lived in chicago so you know how bad winters can get here! I owned the car for 3 years, never drove it in the winter always kept it in the garage, and my wife at the time hate it getting into the car! So I used to end up driving her jeep to drop her off to the train station, so the only time I drove the car, was in beautiful perfect chicago weather sunny and dry! By the time I traded the car in those 3 years! The car only had 14 thousand miles on it! I ended up trading it for a jeep wrangler jk willys wheeler. Now I live in Arizona and I wish I still have that car! Even though the car wasn't that fast, I loved the way it drove and handled the road. It was and still is a beautiful car. Now I'm thinking of selling my jeep and maybe returning into buying the scion fr-s again! But a good used one in perfect condition.
It’s definitely fun!
Your wife must be obese
03 rsx types is way better can drive in a blizzard thanks to vtec and fwd baby and smoke these all the time
@@JAMTOAM ohhh front wheel drive..... fancy
Damn I miss mine so much. Bought one in 2013 it was a new car. I was only 21. Only 800 miles. Had the TRD package 6 speed. Real fun car to drive
My 13' FR-S is at 180k and climbing. Someone was rough on this one, mine doesn't have anywhere near that much cosmetic wear.
Nice! I figured so. A lot depends on how it was taken care of.
Would you recommend buying a '13 BRZ instead of a newer one? It'd be a big cost savings
Damn 180k mines at 130k did u have to replace any parts?
Recommend buying a 2013 . Frs with 192 k miles ?
Where you at now?
I came so close to buying one. Last minute I went with a 370z instead. Time will tell if I made the right choice. I was scared off from the lack of power
What do you think now?
Mine is a 2017 and bought it with 30k, I took out the sound pipe that goes from the engine to the cabin bc it felt like a little tractor. Being a little more quiet made the car feel lighter. This little car drives like a toy, it is so much fun 😊! I plan on keeping it until I can’t drive anymore.
the beep was letting you know that above that rpm is where the good stuff is and you stopped lol. car has huge torque dip below 5K
Thanks for letting me know. I did do 1 hard pull though haha
Lol the bumper action is the same spot where I got mine going on too 😂😂
Lmao 🤣
Just bought mines.I’m loving it
Nice!
Did you go used? I’m considering going used.
@@theVRpilot ya a lot cheaper
@@josephgarland1440 any tips? I’m hunting hard now. Trying to spend under $17k out the door , if I go higher I’ll grab a 370z so trying to stay low
Enjoy it man! It's a beauty!
0:19 damn i just noticed.this car almost looks like an lfa from the front lowkey so good lookin
It’s a nice looking car!
Bro I love the gauges. I hate to be that guy but I much prefer the analog gauges
Do you have any recommendations for sport card under 15k that are reliable? I was thinking about getting this for my first car but I’m kinda of iffy on my decision.
Any mustang/Camaro/challenger would be good, but they’re usually beat up when used. Perhaps a WRX, Genesis Coupe, 350/70Z, Focus ST, Fiesta ST, there’s a lot of choices!
Lexus IS 350 / GS 350/ G35/37 all are reliable but make sure they're not beat up and have been maintained well (especially the infinity lol)
@@artilleryisbetter the, but the market is so slim! Hardly none in miami- or near that are manual
He said "wow 2013 was 8 years ago-ok😳" lmfao
I mean, it was 😂
I watched a few Scion FR-S videos on how reliable is it. The reviewers seem to miss out on that part, the reason I'd like to know how reliable they are is because it's got a Subaru engine. That's the mistake Toyota made, they should have made their own engine like the Scion TC having the Camry engine.
It’s Toyota, though they decided to use proven motors from other company’s. They reengineer the entire motor and add their Toyota twist to it. Better quality of parts etc. why do you think ppl don’t have head gasket problems with these motors. Or look at the Supra for ex. BMW motor but better than when BMW had it.
I just bought one today in Cali and I noticed it has a little 4th gear grind. Have you heard of grinding issues?
This was a used car that wasn't mine. I haven't been following too closely on FRS's, but it didn't grind while I was driving it.
@@JVette01 ok cool, i have a warranty so might have to get that replaced
@@MistaVillain Definitely take it in and get it checked out!
if it grinds in a gear its probably transmission
I’m debating on getting this or the TC for my daily driver I have to keep the winter in mind but it’s so hard to decide
The TC and the frs will probably be similar in speed, but the TC will have more room and the frs will probably be more fun to drive.
@@JVette01 since the start of this pandemic I haven’t had a need for back seats in a while but I know either car would be great. Ultimately I’m trying to narrow it down to mpgs and handling especially for the winter weather
Scion TC would be the better bet tbh. FWD handles better in snow, and it gets better gas mileage.
@@JVette01 actually I just checked it the FRS makes better gas mileage I wonder if that’s because of the size? But yeah if the winter weather gets as bad as it was this year FWD is the way.
That’s my fault. I thought the TC got better gas mileage.. it’s kinda low for a fwd economy car. I guess mpg is one benefit for the FRS then! Haha
This is a beat up car.!!!
Ikr lol
'hey guys welcome to another video today were gonna be reviewing our crusty scion FR-S"
This one sat out in the sun for 8 years and wasn’t well taken care of 😂
This is the cheapest car, I bought. Not a problem, the use parts bin is plentiful. Idiots turbocharged them or tune them then drive them like their super cars. BOOM! I benefit cause I buy the recked ones for little to nothing, lately I bought two cost $1000.00. Got what I needed and discard the carcass. Keep racing you dumb bunnies.
Lol
Just sold mine and tbh I miss it had 110,000 miles
WAIT A SEC FRS is manualllll ? 😭😭😭😭
My doors didnt stay open either, I was told thats pretty common. Im working towards getting another one.
is it as easy as replacing a component in the hinge or does the whole door need replacing ?
@@iancrespo_ I'm not sure, unless you Wana go Lambo doors. 😀
@@lbmautos hahah lambo doors on this car would actually be kinda sick 😆
@iancrespo_ look up birdiefrs. Kingsmustrise. He did it.
How much did it sell for?? Cuz if it's more than 10k I'd pass tbh. Used WRX '15 with 100k miles I've seen in the 14k range
It was listed for like $12k but idk how much it sold for. Used cars are just pricey right now I’ve noticed.
@@JVette01 stock is low! Way too pricy lol
Wrx is def not near as fun
I can’t believe it’s been 8 years either!
Time flies!
The Ac make that noise because the cabin filter is dirty. Probably even has bugs
Interesting!
I had a 2012 Honda Civic and a 2011 V.W. Cabrio convertable manual, in 2020 I had issues with the V.W. The motor for the roof blew then engine light kept coming off and on. The mechanic said they couldn't find anything wrong. I the started to drive my Honda, it was clean and the only thing wrong was the sun roof. I have long hair, I'd get to my destination and close the sun roof, turned off everything but as I'd get out of the car, I'd always forget that my roof would close with most of my hair. I sold the VW and took the Honda to use as a trade in. I spent 3 hours looking for a small car that felt comfy. I bought the Scion FR/S with 102k. It looked like New and the seat was comfortable, due to an old injury (broken back) this fit like a glove. Everywhere I went I'd get a lot of compliments and inquiries mostly from young ladies. It drives great and no problems at all.
Would you say this is a reliable vehicle
I noticed the shift light comes on really early
Interesting.
You can adjust what rpm you want the shift light to appear
The light is: adjustable
And at low rpm it's actually just letting you know all the fun is just under 8k
Yo man is this in Phoenix AZ?
Nope. Las Vegas, Nevada.
i want to grab one but kind of intimidated with most of the cheap ones being over 100K miles super glad i watched this vid.
i just realized we are about to hit 2022 which would make the car 9 years old so 100K kind of seems about right.
Don’t buy one with that many miles, I went to buy the one in the video and first week of owning it I starting to hear mild rod knock, got rid of it straight after, i got the car for 10k, it was too good to be true
@@yourfather5324 Depends how well the car was maintained...
@@yourfather5324 you got screwed over and passed it to the next guy? 😂
i want to buy one with 120k miles automatic for $8k what u think🤔🤔
Do whatever makes you happy ;)
Maintence wise recommend ?
I haven't heard of too many issues with these. I'd assume it depends alot on how it was taken care of.
@@JVette01 thank I appreciate the vid man👌🏽
how do you find good cars for cheap because these big online sellers don't show these good cars under 10k
I guess you just have to look around. Our dealership actually has a “value zone” that is full of affordable as is vehicles
@@JVette01 does your dealership have an online website and can i have the name or link for it? I’m trying to find a Scion FR-S or Subaru brz. Something that looks good when modified
@@Kenny-kd5zg It will be hard to find those under 10k
Private seller duh
I might be getting a 17 86 860 special edition.
Cool!
I have a 2013 frs with 176k miles on it only had to change the ecu on it and a camshaft position sensor and running like a champ still
how often have you changed your transmission and differential fluid? or you never did?
@@alexgonzales8002 I mean yeah I would do regular maintenance every 4,500 mile, for transmission l changed it at 160k
@@alexgonzales8002 for differential and transmission I read somewhere it’s every 30k miles that you need to change them
@@JuanMartinez-if1umHow is your driving style? Do you beat on it or baby it?
Why does it beep at the 6th lvl ?11:23
It’s just a shift beep
Younger people these days don't seem to ever wax their cars. Then they wonder why the paint goes away.
Once I sell my truck I think I’m gonna get one of these for 13k. It has a turbo and some kind of engine tune that wasn’t clarified from the person I’m buying it from. But is 13k worth it for this car?
I haven’t been reading up too much on the market for these. Just check KBB values and compare. However, modified cars go for much less than stock ones.
I'd pass on one with a turbo. A) it's been thrashed a little, at the very least. And B) I heard the engines don't handle turbos that well. But that may depend on the amount of boost pressure it has.
The stock engines seen to be pretty reliable as long as fluids are changed and kept up with.
Don't own one yet, but I've been doing research on them cuz I'm in the market for one and this is what I've been hearing. So, take that as u will.
@@Juan_Solo84 it’s okay I didn’t get it anyways 😂
@@hades_cbr got u. I just got mine, had it about a couple weeks now, it's a sweet car. Came right on time too cuz gas prices are getting retarded...
Anyway, I hope u like whatever u got, or if u haven't got anything yet, I recommend the frs/BRZ/86 cuz it's a fun car to drive. I love it, glad I got it.
Even tho I rev like crazy every time I hit an on ramp (I can't help myself, she wants me to), I'm still averaging almost 28 mpg. So, thumbs up.
@@Juan_Solo84 how many miles is on your car because I’m in the market as well trying to decide if I want to get one that’s at 90k miles.
I don’t know how well they run once they reach the 100k+ miles you feel me
My k20 in my 03 rsx type s has 400,000kms and it way quicker and it allmost 20 years old
The speed has never been this car’s strong suit. Its still fun to drive though IMO
6'5 Jesus how much milk did you drink?
Lots
I’m being offered a 2014 Scion FR-S with 100k miles for 11k and 4K down
Cool!
@@JVette01 do U think that’s a good deal it’s a family friend so I can maybe bring it down a little and they said 100 every Saturday till it’s paid off
I’m not too familiar with the market on those but as long as your comfortable with the price/payments then that’s all the matters!
@@BRED23 I know this is a month late but imo I would say no that’s not a good deal at all. 4k down for a car that has 100k+ miles on it is just wild to me.
You can get one from different car lots with just putting down 1.5k or 2k max with very low mileage.
But hey man if you got the car and is ok with that kind of payments then salute to you bro
i was going to get one and was excited even until i realized the remake of a famous drift car only came in automatic. quite possibly the most sacriligious thing a car company has ever done. and if they could fail this bad here what else are they messing up?
It can also be had in a 6 spd manual
@@computerguy5437 only the BRz to my understanding and you will pay a lot more.
@@operator9858 bruh no all the frs/brz/86 come in 6 speed manual
This foo has no gas lol
Ikr
Poor guy that buys the car after you drove it is going to have to rebuild the engine.
LOL a Scion FR-S with 100k miles and you’re tripping over me doing 2 pulls. Ok pal.
Dumbass take, I do hard pulls in a tC constantly. These cars are meant to be pushed.
This guy spent like 70 percent of this video fucking terrified of the first 3 gears btw
There’s nothing to be terrified about with 151lb ft of torque… I’m just trying not to go high speeds around people and traffic
@JVette01 Dude you hardly touched it, the car has a notable torque dip under 5k and was marketed as an enthusiast's car. You drove it with way too much fear.
