The speaker has done a remarkable job by choosing peace over and distance over disrespect. Kudo, you are one of the level headed leaders our beloved Ghana, the only country that Ghanaians has. We all pray to God to keep you strong and to see us through this difficult time of our beloved Ghana. Cheers 🍻
Congratulations Mr speaker, indeed you have exhibited your maturity. Let Mad. Gertrude Torkornu and her so call enanymous judges come and do the proceedings in the Parliament
As a citizen of the republic of Ghana it is my considered opinion that ammendments should be made to the law on appointments of seniour public servants for highly sensitive positions. These are as follows; 1.Sensitive appointments such as the heads of the (Judiciancy, Electoral commission and IGP etc) should be made by the State not by goverment (Executive). Such a policy will restore confidence in such institutions. 2. The position of attorney general should be seperated from Min of State for Justice. It will be interesting to know whether all members of the house who absented themselves from the house will be paid. The interest of the state and the people of Ghana is supreme in all cases. Therefore the sovereign will of the people of Ghana resides in the constitution of the republic of Ghana. Relevant Provisions on Governance in the constition is binding on all institutions and individuals. In light of the tention between the speaker and CJ some ammendments are needed in the consitution to avoid such situations. There has to be clarity on the seperation of powers and whether the CJ has jurisdictional supervision over the speaker. Thanks
I salute you speaker for saving Ama Ghana ❤❤❤. Papa J and his Comrades stood and took the nation from looters, Today Ghanaians have to stand and take the nation back from this current npp regime lead by Akuffo Addo.
William Blackstone and A.V. Dicey, influential figures in British law, discussed parliamentary sovereignty. Blackstone stated, "Parliament can do no wrong... no authority on earth can undo what parliament hath done." Dicey defined it as Parliament's "right to make or unmake any law... no person or body can override or set aside the legislation." Parliamentary sovereignty holds that: - Parliament has absolute law-making authority - No external oversight or override - Supreme legal authority This concept shaped British law and common law in other countries, with implications for: - Limiting judicial review - Restricting executive power - Protecting individual rights However, criticisms and modern perspectives suggest: - Undermining checks and balances - Fostering authoritarianism - Ignoring human rights - Evolution due to international obligations and judicial review I suggest as a Ghanaian that once we are practicing what is called democracy let's also learn from where this democracy came from and practice it as such.
Exhibition of ignorance. We don't practice parliamentary supremacy in Ghana. Ghana practices Constitutional supremacy. The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Nation, not Parliament
Please am not exhibiting any ignorance here go and read the last sentence of my first post, and I think you are carried away by your self political influence. Make sure you read into the meaning of people's post before you comment. And know that the 1992 constitution has a source from the republican constitution of 1969 which is part of the British unwritten source of constitution.and mind you that they are enshrined provisions. And amendment of it will not take suprem court but parliament. Please am much aware Ghana practices constitutional supremacy. This means that the Constitution is the highest law of the land, and all other laws, including those made by Parliament, must be consistent with it ¹ ². In Ghana's constitutional framework, Parliament's power to make laws is not absolute, as it is limited by the Constitution. The Supreme Court has the authority to interpret the Constitution and ensure that laws passed by Parliament align with it ². *Key aspects of Ghana's constitutional supremacy:* - *Constitutional provisions*: The Constitution outlines the powers and limitations of Parliament, ensuring that it does not overstep its authority ¹. - *Judicial review*: The Supreme Court can review laws passed by Parliament to ensure they comply with the Constitution. - *Checks and balances*: The Constitution establishes a system of checks and balances among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, preventing any one branch from dominating the others This approach differs from parliamentary supremacy, where the legislature has absolute power to make laws without constitutional limitations. Ghana's constitutional supremacy provides a safeguard against potential abuses of power and ensures that the rights of citizens are protected.
Mind you that Ghana is not practicing a bicephalous executive. And remember that the same rules were issued against NDC member of parliament not under Hon. Bagbin and they have never taken it to court. Am neither NDC nor npp I have neither their membership cards. So am not carried away by any of their partizan issues and I have no interest in this case.
The fundamental issue is whether Ghana's governance is founded on parliamentary supremacy. Answer is NO as you recognize. Therefore, any suggestion that Parliament is sovereign is far fetched. The Constitution is the Supreme law of the land, and the interpretation of it is the preserve of the Supreme Court
Who declared the NDC majority in Parliament? By what is happening with the Speaker not questioning about the seating arrangements, it means he has agreed to what the NDC has done.
Kwasia … who is the majority? You people should learn to reason a little bit. Being an Npp member doesn’t mean your stüpidïty should be at the PhD level.
I can see some people here lack common understanding... How can someone be independent and still be part of your party.. Then you later start playing victim.. Immaturity... Clowns🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
How can they take the dollar to 16cedis then after putting tax on everything... You take your salary and tax has taken all.. Madness, people are still following them
Do most of them actually understand the pledge they are reciting? Can they boldly say they are actually serving the interest of the nation and it's citizens and not serving the best interest of their political parties?
Amenfi MP, now an independent candidate for the next parliament and sitting NDC member for current parliament. Think and be reasonable, Bagbin and NDC MPs
24 Hour Majority Episode Speaker please explain what you meant by parliament is suspended indefinitely else your people (the ndc parliamentarians )will think otherwise and react differently. Oga speaker please explain to them ooo! This time around you are afraid of the Supreme Court like you go know and smell pepper. Haruna too look at his behavior Eii my friend so you want power. You just got booted out and you are sitting on the bench warming up to where?
Who is going to lose if speaker of parliament announced inderfinately close for the parliament , President Kwakuo Bonsam Tia and his ministers are in trouble 🤔
Why is it that NDC is endowed with leaders with country and only the country at heart, And the NPP is constituted mainly with 'leaders' with their party, self and tribe at heart
Disgraceful on the part of an incompetent speaker. You could not settle this small issue because of your personal parochial interest. The whole world is looking at you. Mr speaker you will leave this office as the wicked and worst person ever posterity will judge you
NDC is a threat to Ghana's democracy and of course, some of their members in the comment section didn't even understand Bagbin's decision. Why are they rejoicing prematurely? Funny as hell😀😀
We give you the power to lead and serve. Now you want to use same power to intimidate, showing all kinds of where power lies. Don't you think even God who created you, a time is coming to take that very arrogant from you? NPP court and party your days are numbered and you shall be soon disappear from the authority you're using to abuse the very people who gave it to you. For us we don't have the strength, but there's always God and karma who speaks and fight for his people and nation.
It’s absolutely shameful and unpatriotic for one person to misapply the intent of the Constitution to cause chaos in Ghana. I used to respect the Speaker but I’ve lost every bit of it. The Speaker has no authority to interpret the Constitution. The Supreme Court is the only body that has the authority to interpret the Constitution, whether one agrees with their decisions or not. Majority in parliament is establishment by the collective voice of the people of Ghana at the ballot not trickery and biased application of the Constitution to suit a political party. The president should run the affairs of Ghana through executive actions and parliament should be shutdown until elections in December to determine the true majority of parliament. The Speaker and his NDC don’t know the functions and authorities of the judiciary, executive, and the legislature. This is an embarrassment on Ghana with the whole world watching.
Your NPP have shamefully coiled into their shells. If you guys have balls go and disrupt and let’s see. E-levy and betting taxes will be repealed soon.
