Finally someone who understands that wah goes before overdrive
Personally I do. Bass-compression-Wah-fuzz-Distortion
Now I know, too, and I appreciate the 411!
Can't recall Cliff's effects chain in order.
@@ImYourOverlord Cliff went comp→wah→od→(limiter→)amp
@@luukderuijter1332 Sweet! I have a Dunlop MXR Bass Compressor and an Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer (and access to an Ibanez Tube Screamer for guitar), so that's my starting point. Will add the Wah and an Ibanez HD1500 unit when I can. Amp is a Hartke LH500, and I plan to get another head and a crossover, to split signal to send dry low end to one head and out a 1x15 cab, and "full range" with effects to the other head and out a 4x10 cab.
This is exactly cliff's tone
I can see you have the same wah settings and arrangement like me...honestly probably the best way to get the tone with modern day pedals...great sound and playing \m/
Nice to see you here. Yeah, it's a nice tone that doesn't feel too fuzzy but I do sometimes like to put the intensity at 3 o'clock, I'm still experimenting with different tones. And thanks \m/
@@kiraqueen1262 i know...morley released new wah line featuring some boost wah and distortion wah...i would love to try those just to see if they are any good...so of course tone search is a neverending story haha
@@KeeperOfCliffsTone I would love to try some of those pedals, especially the distortion wah to see how it compares to the fuzz wah and maybe the Mark Tremonti wah
@@kiraqueen1262 exactly
Lmao same
Im scrolling here to find how to get cliffs tone and I’m holding my bass and when I saw that you have the same bass I did a double take 😂 great playing man that tone is spot on 🤟🏻
Nailed that tone. Got me as a subscriber, can't wait to hear more!
Thanks man. Hopefully I can get some recording equipment soon.
@@kiraqueen1262 Please do a full Anesthesia, if possible.
@@Devil2k81 I'll try, one of these days
Nice man! This is dope! To nail a Lyceum tone for the outro for anesthesia, you should add an octave pedal!
Thanks, I'm thinking of getting a Behringer FX2000 rack mount so I can get a better delay and other effects.
hey alex
@@a_yden16 hey ayden lol
I’ve been trying to get cliffs “clean” tone down and so far a tube screamer does good but I just can’t get it to where I’m happy, could you make a video about his non fuzz tone?
I'll try to :)
yea that would be sick. The RTL non lead bass tone
Caden Smith for his ride the lighting tone ts9 works well, there’s hardly any bass in his tone, it’s a lot of mids with some highs. Quite thin sounding for bass, compression also helps with getting the right sound as it helps with getting a nice punchy tone that cuts. If your bass allows it try just using mostly whatever neck pickup you have.
@@Watto22 also insanely thin string gauge. and instead of tube screamer, you should use a big muff fuzz pedal
@@mr.hedgehog420 that’s incorrect, the only time cliff has ever used the muff was on the studio recording of pulling teeth.
To my knowledge Cliff had a TONE of mids in his tone. I'd like you hear your knowledge on his tone because clearly you got it down.
There is a lot of low mids and treble in his tone. A good amount of high mids and bass. Most of the treble sound comes from basically punching the strings against the fretboard by using a low action, where it hits the frets and makes a punchy sound, like how some pick players like David Ellefson. He used light gauge rotosound steel strings which also adds punch. A good bench mark for his tone is to have the settings; Bass-5.5, Mids-6.5, Treble-6.5, EQ sliders almost max except for 900~2000hz range about halfway. His clean tone basically revolves around this from this setup but there are some changes such as a compresser pedal. The KTA tone is this but mostly clean. RTL is having the Mids at 8 and Treble at 7 and with the EQ sliders turned off and a TS9 acting as a boost with the Drive and Tone changing settings with each song, while the Level at max. MOP is same as KTA but with natural overdrive, I use my amp, compresser, and a clean boost to achieve this. His live solo tone is about having the Wah pedal having as much vocal characteristics as possible with the TS9 and Wah at the settings you see in the video but they do change when it comes to the MOP era, and a delay and sometimes a reverb to help with the sound.
This is how his tone boils down too, I have had many different results and have done many experimental choices for me to narrow it down to this
Can you get Jason newsted sound you might need a pick
Yea, I probably can. It's pretty simple to get a similar tone but I'll have to experiment.
jojo reference
this is so accurate thats scared me
Good
Try to recreate the tone with shift pitch like Hollywood
doesn't live at the lyceum have a harmony effect on it?
Yeah, it is only on the last half of the solo. Which I didn't play
@@kiraqueen1262 do you know how to get that effect?
@@feverlma by using a pitch shifter pedal that can do different harmony intervals
Spot on brother
Men you have Instagram?
No, not at this moment
Tanks for vid Ima buy these padals
Hey man, nice tone!
I'm wondering, I got the same pedals, just a Power Wah Fuzz Vintage, but when cranking too much gain or overdrive, I get a lot of feedback and squealing noises, does noisegate do a lot to suppress that?
It helps with it when you're not playing. As soon as you reach the threshold then the feedback returns. So put it at a level where the gate doesn't open when you lightly go across the strings.
@@kiraqueen1262 Thanks bro!, btw I'm also trying to get the wah screams, but nothing seems to happen, I'm also missing the Compressor, I think a little tweaking will do the job
@@daigo120 the compressor acts as a boost, so you can get a compressor or a clean boost pedal. It really helps to get the wah screams
@@kiraqueen1262 lov u man, hope I nail the tone ✌🏻
Epic CLIFF TONE!!!!
Absolutely awesome dude I'm jelly lmao
Sounds awesome
No sounds like Cliff at lyceum
Bro you have Instagram or Facebook I have a couple of questions
Not yet, I'm going to make an Instagram account soon, I'll let you know.
You can ask me some questions now if you want
Kira Queen What do you think about your bass for cliff tone? I want to buy a bass and your tone sound really good
@@AzaadVlogs7 It's pretty good as any bass guitar with 2 humbuckers with both pickups blended can get a great tone. I would say to try out a bass that suits you. Most of the tone if from the amp and the effects because of how distorted everything is. If you want a more true Cliff tone then get a used Aria Pro 2 bass like an SB-1000, R-60, or something similar as they have a similar tone to Cliff's bass which was a SB Black'n Gold 1 which had 1 pickup which acted like 2 humbuckers blended together. So basically, any bass with 2 humbuckers will get a similar tone and most of the tone is with the amp and effects.
Hi. What are the settings of the TS 9 pedal ? Thanks
I got all the pedals except the wah almost ready
You should record the entire Call of Ktulu.
Definitely. I will one of these days when I manage to get some recording equipment and when I get time to do it.
@@kiraqueen1262
Great!
(At least you can compensate the lack of isolated bass track from The Call Of Ktulu)
the Behringer FX2000 rack is like another pedal? if i buy it, in which order i need to put the pedals? wah, distortion, compressor, and where i need to put the Behringer FX2000 rack
Basically, you can use the pedals in this order: Comp->Wah->Dist-> Amp->FX Loop/FX2000-> Speaker and the Behringer FX2000 rack should go into the effects loop on the back of the amp but it could be used after the distortion.
What are the settings on your delay? Also what did you use to record the audio? It sounds really smooth.
Also check out my version of the for Whom the bell tolls tone: ruclips.net/video/CQvVdMBEK28/видео.html
The settings are 9 o'clock for everything.
That sounds pretty good man
What do you use to record your audio? Just wondering
@@THESONICSPEEDDEMON I just had my phone when I made this. I'm using Reaper and some GarageBand now
@@kiraqueen1262 oh, how do you position your phone? Cause I notice your audio has some good clear bass unlike mine. Do you use voice memos or something
Fantastic!
Some parts were played slightly wrong and out of time but you did great!
@@redyamahabassguy7537 Thanks, yeah I some of stuff isn't perfect as i did it as a last minute thing but it's alright.
For this tone should I get the Vintage Morley Power Wah Volume?
@@cokasex4649 You should probably get a Vintage Power wah boost to get a better tone or maybe a vintage power wah fuzz, I used the new reissue power fuzz wah. It can do the job but it doesn't have the same impact as the older wahs.
@@kiraqueen1262 Thanks for telling me mate ;)
can you make an impulse response of your ampeg and cab through a mic?
No, I can't at the moment. I'll look into it in the future.
You really should have the Morley Power Wah Boost, instead of the Power Wah Fuzz.
Yeah, I've been trying to look out for one but I can't find any. I was looking at a few but they sold before I could get them.
@@kiraqueen1262 Wasn't easy for me, but recently I got one in my sights, so very soon I'll pull the trigger on it :)
@@ImYourOverlord nice man, hopefully you'll get it. I still like this one but I'd love to try the power wah boost
Try putting the TS9 after the wah and before the multi FX. You’ll have a better sound
The TS9 is after the wah and before the multi FX, I just positioned them that way because of how small the pedal board is. It looks confusing but the chain is...CS3->PFW->TS9->Noise Gate->Multi FX->Amp
Where did you get your power fuzz wah from?
I got the reissue PFW from Amazon
It's the Cliff Burton Tribute PFW
So how does the order of the pedals actually go? It’s kinda hard for me to see what’s after what when they stacked in a way lol. Is it amp->noise gate->wah etc?
Here is the signal chain: Bass->CS3->PFW->TS9->Noise Gate->Multi FX->Amp
Oh ok I got one more question, are you using distortion only from the wah pedal?
@@THESONICSPEEDDEMON no, I'm using the CS3 as a boost before the wah. And I'm using the TS9 to add more distortion after it. I'm also using the fuzz that is built in the wah as well.
@@kiraqueen1262 oh ok
@@kiraqueen1262 Do effects like delay usually go after the noise gate?
