I have a feeling that many people simply don't know how clothes are made and believe we can easily replace sewists with a kind of automated process somehow.
Hey would love to see more mid luxury type brands like Ami, ALD, APC, Acne, Our Legacy etc And eco-friendly brands like Buck Mason or Everlane too Your technical breakdowns are sooo insightful and helpful. As I've started investing in higher quality clothes, understanding the details matters more
Regarding recylcled or organic materials, another reason why cost is higher due to certification requirements. Not every manufacturer are able to or willing to het the certification which limit the availability as well. Additionally, the certification requires manufacrurers to spend extra on the certification itself and other requirements that are forced by the certification bodies.
I treated myself to a few pair of pants from Lululemon and a de T-shirts from Uniqlo as a holiday gift. I showed my friends one of your vids, when they found out Joe was a Canadian they walked away & were like screw that guy 😂 I appreciate you and your team 👏👏👏 thank you for your videos
I'd love to hear your take on why sizing (especially plus size mens) is so inconsistent! I can go one size down on an Adidas hoodie, but then a mainstream jacket brand will have to be two sizes up to fit.
Love the videos guys! Have you guys though about review anything from Hollister? I have a couple of their heavyweight boxy tees that I enjoy that I would love to see you break down and review.
Do you think you could test some of All Saints men’s clothing for construction quality and fabric quality please? It would be amazing to see. Love your videos 🙌💚
do lacoste quality check video please would be very interesting since i find their clothing most comfortable. besides they don't make unfathomably expensive clothes like 1000 dollar sweatpants.
Love the informative videos! Can you do a Wolf vs Goat review? It's a niche brand and Mauro is highly revered, but I'm curious if the brand lives up to the hype
I've been following you for the past year, love your content! Btw Joe, I think 2025 would be off to a great start if the media team has a new tripod! #readinghashtags
You’ve mentioned sizing variations several times already in this series, and the issues of multiple factories or fitting to the brand owner. But what about sizing in more formal manswear? Suits are usually fitted against the chest circumference, while variations in fit exists to achieve different looks, it’s seems more standardized than just XS, S, M, L, XL etc. Why don’t we use this system for more kinds of clothing, is it just because it’s hard to educate the customers?
Hi Been a fan of the page from the very start. I was curious about spacer knit I was wondering you could review the spacer knit hoodies from lululemon and the textured spacer knit anorak from lululemon as well. Thanks
Is the reality going forward just that the average consumer (i.e. someone who can't afford niche independent labels) is priced out of good quality clothing? Subjectively I guess this already feels true, given how hard it is just to find high street items made of natural fibres, let alone with reliablly high quality construction. Is there any reason to hope things might get better?
Yeah but I don't think clothing being expensive really matters of it's quality, it just makes you be more selective with what you purchase. You really on needs 2-3 of a specific category of clothing to have a pretty nice wardrobe, it's just our standards for consumption are so high that people say "they can't afford it" when what they mean is they can't buy new clothing each season, which you don't actually have to do
If brands have not diversified out of China by this point, it's their own fault. The capability and the capacity already exists in countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh, Jordan, Turkey etc.
I've been seeing some Comfrt sweatpants and hoodies out in the wild and recommended on a couple RUclips channels. The prices look pretty good but how do they compare to other sweatpants and hoodies from more well known brands like Columbia, Nike, etc.? Also, have you thought about looking into jeans or athletic wear from big names like Levi, Under Armor, North Face, Nike, etc? I find pants can start pilling in rather embarrassing places 😅
Please tell me everything I need to know about tackle twill. I’m starting to see an influx in that type of embroidery on some expensive garments. Am I being ripped off? Is this a cost cutting strategy?
Recycled PET (polyester/recycled bottles) has an established supply chain. However materials like recycled nylon are typically made from fishing nets and there are only so many fishing nets in the world and other sources of recycled nylon are not reliable or prohibitively expensive.
I am new to your channel, but if you haven't already done so I would love to see reviews of some of my favorite Japanese brands: The Real McCoy's, Freewheeler, Samurai Jeans and Beams. I think they make excellent stuff that's worth the high prices, but I'm a biased Japanophile 🙂 Thx.
Can you please take apart some Motorcycle gear. By its very nature it requires higher construction quality than regular clothes. There are single layer jeans, jeans lined with Kevlar, Motorcycle jackets, and gloves. Dainese would be a good brand to review as they are on the higher end and Sedici is a house brand for the largest retailer(Revzilla and Cyclegear) that would be a great comparison point for a lower price. I would love to see your thoughts on that kind of clothing to contrast some of the higher end fashion brands. Something that might be further from your expertise but equally interesting would be motorcycle track suits in full leather comparing italian manufacturers with low priced ones manufactured in Pakistan. Pakistan has a booming and highly specialized leather suit industry
Really bothered that 100% cotton shirts torque after two wears. I tested it on a brand new shirt. Wore it two times fresh from the packaging. And then handwashed it afterwards without wringing. Already torqued! Why is this and how can we prevent this?
Which brand is typically considered the best value for money based solely on quality per dollar? Please exclude any influence the brand name may have on the perception of value.
Why has every Gildan product I’ve purchased been subpar junk. Is that brand really that bad for a blank company? I would expect more, Bella and canvas is a bit better, I mean ALO 😅
Some the OVO items state “Made in Canada”. Do you know where they’re manufactured in Canada. Is that really true or is it just a really small portion of the garment?
On the tariffs I think there's more that people never take into account. I think the biggest factor is that he said there will be no taxes or charges for people who make their products in America. So as you said, people are going to look for younger inexperienced factories and I think that's going to be mostly in the United States. I think that's going to give the competitive market back to the United States for people to invest in factories in this country and expand that type of industry here versus everywhere else. It may take a hit at first, but I think in the long run it'll be good. But nobody's factoring in that second part about businesses getting taxed less and not having to pay tariffs if they make their products here.
@RetroDoneRight For now because the industry hasn't been built up over here. But it's just like any other industry including the plant industry. All it takes is some incentive and Exxon builds a $4 billion plant in Texas on the coast. All you need is proper government incentives to save money and not be taxed and all the sudden the industry will grow. It's like any other business but you have to make your country attractive to work in. That coupled with the fact that there's going to be a mass Exodus of about 12 million people, cutting about 2 trillion out of the government in wasteful spending and other things, will likely increase the value of the US dollar. Not to mention Russia and all the oil deals overseas going back to the US currency.
I think you are not taking into account that the workers, the equipment and the capacity do not currently exist and would take decades to build back. Do you think the American consumer is willing to wait decades while prices continue to go up and quality goes down?
@Pangcah88 again, there's multiple factors to that. I've got extensive experience in the plant industry. For instance. There was a new method developed to filter out one of the chemicals that Exxon uses to make plastics. It was at the time, only in the Exxon facilities in Germany. Some of my father's friends were sent to work there for 2 years. It was cheaper over there at the time. But then some laws changed that allowed them to expedite the approval process for the patents over here and then build it virtually for free in order to put out a better product. What was initially impossible was done in a matter of 8 months or so. And that was dangerous stuff that requires much more than building a machine for spandex. Lol It all depends on what the government's doing. With a possibility of the Panama canal coming back to America and Canada, possibly being the 51st state due to the fact that they can't survive the tariffs that Trump is likely going to impose and will economically collapse otherwise, there's a lot of factors at play. These things are never just one direct cost. And yes I'm aware our machinery in this industry is decades behind. It's really embarrassing. But just like adjustments that are going to have to get made so we don't lose to China in the car market, adjustments will likely be made to the textile industry as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if they the dollar got so valuable and import dues and operating in American got so advantageous the whole industry improves drastically. It's interesting for sure and we'll have to see how it'll all turn out. But I personally think in about 3 years we're going to see a massive shift in a lot of industries in America.
Joe . I always see you wearing great t shirts . Would love to see a video of what your wearing or even just current favorite brands or lines . Cheers
Yay, one last video in 2024🎉. Thanks, Joe!
I have a feeling that many people simply don't know how clothes are made and believe we can easily replace sewists with a kind of automated process somehow.
This!!!! And “why don’t we recycle fabric” as if it’s much easier than our current processes - which as pointed out in this video, simply not true
“Sewists?” Lmao what a word. Maybe you mean “seamstresses?”

Thank you for your work, your knowledge/wisdom is evident.
The only thing that will work for sustainability is buy better quality and buy less

It's literally just down to how the brand wants their product to fit, they choose the measurements on whatever model they use

Tripods are vital to good videos.
Unemployment in USA is around 4%, where are we going to find all this spare labor to start sewing clothes 😅

Some places already raised their prices before the new year and used incoming tariffs as an excuse.

Also, when is the shift fashion group tee with your face on it coming? Or just merch in general lol
Joe - alot has been happening behind the scenes for a special project coming soon 👕
@Shiftfashiongroup hell yeah! Sign me up.

Is there a link for where you would get good quality on the reasonable side? Don’t care for name brands very much

Can you review bombas socks?

Can you show us a garment priced over 1k from a popular luxury brand that is worth it, in terms of quality?
Question #1 likely means even more companies will be building ghost factories in other countries to ship products to before shipping to US, no?
Really bothered that 100% cotton shirts torque after two wears. I tested it on a brand new shirt. Wore it two times fresh from the packaging. And then handwashed it afterwards without wringing. Already torqued! Why is this and how can we prevent this?
Please Review RRL Indigo Jersey Pocket T
Which brand is typically considered the best value for money based solely on quality per dollar? Please exclude any influence the brand name may have on the perception of value.
Why did so much manufacturing move to Vietnam and other Asian countries, that formerly was made in China?
What shirt you wearing?
Looks like maybe Uniqlo’s AIRism COTTON OVERSIZED CREW NECK HALF SLEEVE T-SHIRT
Why has every Gildan product I’ve purchased been subpar junk. Is that brand really that bad for a blank company? I would expect more, Bella and canvas is a bit better, I mean ALO 😅

All that's required to say that is a small percentage or the last part of the manufacturing. Like sewing tags on finished garments.
It could be sewn in Canada even though the fabric isn't. My mom worked for one of their suppliers located in Toronto.
Using recycled polyester in garments ends the lifecycle of the plastic. I'm not sure its a sustainable choice. Is it greenwashing?
American should see this is an opportunity to learn how to be a conscious consumer and stop fueling useless crap from fast fashion such as SHEIN

Even with extremely high tariffs it would be cheaper to have them manufactured overseas compared to here.
