I like how Chinese terms appear to show the spelling of the vocabulary in Latin alphabet and in Chinese characters. If it's possible to bring back those visuals if possible
I love it when she ends her video with “Meanwhile, live long and happy game playing.” 🍀 Madam, we sincerely appreciate you, and your videos no matter how long or short it is. I have to say, it’s more enthralling the longer it gets. Looking forward to the next chapters. Thank you and stay safe! 💚
i literally found ur channel because i bought the game and wanted more information on the mythology/ what im playing. as of now you’re the best youtuber i’ve watched ✨
I really enjoy the way you go into detail about the characters and their backstories in Black Myth Wukong. This is very well executed. Keep going at it!
Yes me too. I bought the book on audible thinking ni could listen at work and learn more of the lore, but all they have is an abridged version that does not do it justice. Seems the original book has volumes..? If I went to Barnes and nobles what should I look for?
I just finished my 5th playthrough of the game with my mom watching (because she is in love with it and the novel as well, just like me), and now I just found your channel! Really interesting to see someone covering the background lore of this game to such deep detail, so I'm gonna watch them with my mom starting tonight! 🙂 Looking forward to future ones too!
Wow I didn’t even realise the reveal of the remains in mad tigers coffin 😢 I just grabbed my treasure after I defeated him and bounced. lol. Great vid!
Oh my goodness! Playing through this game, I'm going through each chapter to see if I can make sense of the theme/lessons without having any prior knowledge of Sun Wukong, then I come here for the full breakdown. Lol, using this channel as my dictionary/ or encyclopedia if you will. Thank you for these incredible breakdowns.
One perspect I've heard from a Chinese channel is that the ending stop animation story sort of giving audiences the hint of the mindset of Yellow wind sage from trying to help people to an antagonist. Every Yaoguai is trying to become a god or achieve buddhahood so does Yellow wind sage. Everything he did from stealing the oil of Buddha's chalice to trying to help villagers from the insect. He was hoping all the good deeds he acomplished would one day seen by the celestial palace eventually gain it's buddhahood. That's why he was livided once he was asking to return Yellow wind after defeading Wukong knowing Yaoguai will always be Yaoguai, in rage it cut of the head off Lingji Bodhisattva. Since it would never escape his destiny of being a Yaoguai it might as well be the baddest of all.
yes would appreciate if you could include your interpretation of the ending scenes from all the chapters and how it links back to the chapter or grand scheme of the story..
Not in a million years did I think you are a gamer. You surprised me! Been watching you for your review of cdramas and background chinese cultures, music, literatures, etc in those dramas. Thank you for these precious nuggets of informations.
oh my god the story is actually awesome if you read the biography, thank you for pieces it together, im so grateful and waiting for more in depth analysis for the coming chapters
Thank you AvenueX for this series. As a Chinese person who grew up outside of China and only know bits and pieces of Journey to the West I thoroughly enjoyed your Black Myth Wukong videos!
I just started clapping at the end of the video. THANK YOU for doing these videos. They are so informative and I love the way you tell stories. THANK YOU!!!
I’m not a gamer but really appreciate your hard work for this, learned a lot too. Hope someday you can do the same for Dream of the Red Chamber😊 Happy mid-autumn festival to all~
I love your break down of the story, and details. I was reading through those scrolls, but got overwhelmed, plus I just want to go back to hitting things HAHAHA
LOVE the way you entwin the literary basis and the game narrative together! It's such an enriching and relaxing experience at the same time, it feels like "combing" one's braincells honestly... I just can't wait to watch the next video with the 金蝉子 anecdote with Yellowbrow! 💛❤
YES i was waiting so much the video can't wait to have all of them to see i really love your way of explaining it's really easy to understand even when not native english of chinese or even didn't read the original story so thank you, and i saw one other youtuber guys doing a bit like you explaining the story of the game but clearly in a different way and with some different point of view and saying that it's really ironic to see that the yaoguai is actually the good person trying to help people and the bodhisattva is the bad one seems to be the one causing all the bad thing in the ancient kingdom i think he even say he was maybe the cause too of the sun set killing children to make people praying and beliving in him and buddhism to have help with the drum. He was drawing a parallel with the stop motion sentence that the bodhisattva was saying that people can't change if their root are bad they will be bad anyway and if their root is good they will be good saying it's ironic since the rat is the yaoguai the monster who tend to be prone to do bad thing being the bad one distrupting the natural order buthe is the good one saving people and helping them even left alone when he saw he was maybe the cause of the people turning into rat and having problem, at the opposite the bodhisattva that should be the one with good roots being good in his life is actually somone bad making suffer people to achieve his goal and make people do what he want them to do same for the stop motion the hulijing having roots likle that but at the end wanting to help the scholar in his life and do good because he saved him and the man being a scholar someone that should be good killing an innocent life just because he was scared of a dream that it's just a dream. sorry for my english not my first language ^^"
Thanks for all the efforts to piece out the game story and linking them to actual JTTW story reference.. really makes the game more enjoyable knowing the lore..
This was a fantastic summary! I cannot imagine the amount of reading and referencing you have to do to merge these story beats together to do this video. Great job!
56:20 The fact that custom, tradition, and history was kept to for clothing in a stop-motion animation was fascinating! Keep doing what you do, ma'am; your breakdowns are enthralling!
insanely well put together video. thank you for taking your time to give us this! i can’t wait for the other chapters. learning the mandarin for a lot of this is amazing. might have to get into chinese dramas just to have more of your content !
So amazing! Your explanation is so in-depth! No wonder took you so long to release this chapter. So much effort and so much love! A sincere appreciation and thank you from Malaysia! 🙏😊
Thank you for making these videos, it's helping me a lot to understand Chinese characters but also way of life, philosophy things you normally are not exposed to outside of Asia.
I am so overjoyed, thank you for following through with so many videos on Wu Kong! I await every video greedily! Your first video during the pandemic was so awesome and the space between vids was hard for me. I am an acupuncturist, and I love Taoism, Buddhism, and the Wu Kong story. I know you cover movies and cinema but for me these videos are pure gold. Thank you thank you again , go go go!
Ill say it right now, Avenuex is the current best channel of telling you the lore of black myth for English speaker, I'd say comparable to vaati (soulsgame), or fudgeMuppet (elderscroll), or luetin perhaps? 😅 Thanks for the vids!
I knew I'd learn something from your video, as always! 😂 A few more details, I guess you might have left out of your video because of the length: 1. Tiger vanguard we fought: a. After his father's death, he facilitated local order by killing robbers and likes, hence earned the respect of the locals and had them building him a temple. b. His brother, the mad tiger was jealous of the good name his brother earned, so when the yellow wind sage returned, the younger brother urged tiger vanguard to kill the sage together for their father's revenge. However they failed. Tiger vanguard surrendered and agreed to serve the sage to trade the sage's forgiveness on the assassin attempt. c. The mad tiger is really mad at his brother's decision to surrender, and sees it as a betrayal of their father's death. While tiger vanguard surrendered, he is unwilling in his heart, so he eats lots of rats as revenge and comfort. I think the logic is that the rats are yellow wind sage's subjects, eating them will undermine the sage's ruling? Wow, this post is already getting so long, let me start another one.
2. The sword man's character name in the game is Tiger Accomplice - in Chinese folklore, tiger yaoguai has this ability to turn its victims into minions that will aid it to hunt more victims. And those tiger minions are called Tiger(虎hu) Accomplice (伥chang). There is an idiom, 为虎作伥 , that means roughly aiding the evil, or helping bad guys.
I came across a very interesting video that took a deeper interpretation of the story plot. This video maps the yaoguai king (basically the final boss of each chapter) at different stages of enlightenment - in terms of understanding their fate in relation to the heavens, and the glass ceiling above them. The black bear is blissfully unaware, and happy to be servants of heaven and do dirty works for heaven. Happy to remain forever in the under position. The yellow rat has become aware of the glass ceiling - yaoguai must remain as yaoguai and shall never cross the line. No matter how much cultivation and good deeds he does, he will forever be deemed as yaoguai, and never can become Buddha. After coming to this revelation, he is filled with rage, and decided to pursue power at all cost, and hence you see the turning of his character - release the tornado that turned the yellow ridge into desert and ignore the other rat's plea for protection from the tiger vanguard.
I am so happy you are doing these videos. I grew up with the 80s tv show and story book casettes of jurney to the west that I would play over and over again until I could remember every word. But after growing up and now leaving outside of China I would never consume any jurney to the west content again until this game. And watching your videos. Even though I loved journey to the west as a child. My understanding of the story was very shallow. And I can appreciate all of it even more now thanks to you.
I really dont mind the long videos. Its impressive for me how your narrative is so impressive on each explanation. Thank you for your beaitiful work. I am really loving it.
All your explanations are SO GOOD! I have not played the game yet BUT i decided to know from you SPECIFICALLY, about the lore before getting to play the game, which will be happening soon. And i cannot state ENOUGH how much i love these videos! ❤ Thank you so much!!! Sending you the best vibes from Mexico!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for another excellent video. The four dragons are my favourite boss fight, especially Yellow Loong with his majestic transformation that carried me for the rest of the game. I read all their lore but couldn’t piece a more comprehend story like you did ❤ their backstory are rather tragic
Really love your video on Wukong. I love the game and its story telling, and after watching your video, it makes me appreciate the game even more. Looking forward for your next video. Longer video? Yes please!
I say, every relic and its association with the senses added lots of "Oh!" moment when you actually delve into how important they are. I do agree that chapter 2 had the best story. But man, chapter 4, I cried.....so hard!😢
After completing Black Myth Wukong, I have been looking forward to your videos about it and understanding more of the story! I love how you explained in details about the novel side of things and how the game adapted the different elements from there. It is also very interesting to hear about the different elements of chinese mythologies and dynasties that comes into play too. Thank you very much for putting all these together!❤✨
The story of the Loong King who got his head cut of remind me of Greek prophecy and how people who try to avoid their fate always found thenself on the road that lead to it.
My favourite chapter! I took the time to read all the journal entries throughout the game (lore whore) and it's so cool to see I mostly had the same interpretation! Your videos are amazing. Filling in all the gaps for me.
Really enjoy this vdo. Thank you for putting your knowledge and passion into this great game. Looking forward to the next chapter. Your channel is always putting out high quality content.
Often I would adjust the speed of longer RUclips videos so that I could finish them faster, but I could not do that with your videos. I enjoyed every second of it in normal time because I would love to soak in all the information. Thus, never apologize for the length and please keep the videos coming.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share the whole story for us , even I who hadn't played the game yet, is in awe of how the story is written. It makes me want to dive into the game and experience it myself. ❤
the chapter of Journey to the West that explains why the Tang emperor wanted to promote Buddhism is really interesting and philosophical. As a kid grew up with the 1986 version of the TV series, which did not adapt this chapter, I completely missed it until I actually read the novel later. Then in the 2000s they went back and made additional episodes based on missing chapters including this chapter, which I was so glad to watch.
Yayy chapter 2 and 4 are probably my fave chapters chap 2 in particular i just love desert areas in general and the lore for the characters there are so interesting. I get that the meaning of the end animation was connected to the chapter 2 story in a deeper level, but i really wanted to see chap 2 characters animated too 😭
Years after reading the books and watching the Hong Kong drama series, and the movies. Black Myth made me realize that I don't actually understand Journey to the West. And I love this perception the game took.
And still I forgot to mention Xu Dog! The absolutely adorable medicine maker!!! TOO MANY CHARACTERS!!!!
Yes, he is very valuable to me 😅
Excellent job so far!
I like how Chinese terms appear to show the spelling of the vocabulary in Latin alphabet and in Chinese characters. If it's possible to bring back those visuals if possible
Sis thank you and Happy Mid Autumn Festival 🥮🥮🥮
happy mid autumn festival!
Never apologize for making these videos super long!
It’s very informative. I don’t mind long vids.
Agreed. They NEED to be this way to cover everything, otherwise we miss information.

Her knowledge on Chinese culture has no match on youtube. if you want she has a video about chinese ancient forensic.
I really enjoy the way you go into detail about the characters and their backstories in Black Myth Wukong. This is very well executed. Keep going at it!

这些解说做的太好了,虽然不知道你能坚持多久但我希望你能做完这个系列!我肯定会看完的!加油!
Game Science should just include your videos as part of the upcoming DLC. :). People will appreciate the game that much more.
Yes, very true.
I just finished my 5th playthrough of the game with my mom watching (because she is in love with it and the novel as well, just like me), and now I just found your channel! oh my god the story is actually awesome if you read the biography, thank you for pieces it together, im so grateful and waiting for more in depth analysis for the coming chapters
Isn’t is crazy that everytime you approach a loong boss you hear the gourd sage saying something about cutting off a head GOTY worthy brother
Thank you AvenueX for this series. As a Chinese person who grew up outside of China and only know bits and pieces of Journey to the West I thoroughly enjoyed your Black Myth Wukong videos!
Everything makes so much more sense after your videos. Thanks and keep the videos coming. Time for us to re-visit the chapters again!

I'm learning a lot from Chinese culture from your videos, thank you so much for all the effort 🙏.
Can't believe I watched those long videos in one sitting. They are informative, intriguing and very well done.
Thats a very great small touch of clothing information that have made me more impress with the game team.
I love your break down of the story, and details. I was reading through those scrolls, but got overwhelmed, plus I just want to go back to hitting things HAHAHA

I LOVE THIS SERIES, I BE LEARNING SO MUCH (I'm the Destined one irl fr fr)
the chapter of Journey to the West that explains why the Tang emperor wanted to promote Buddhism is really interesting and philosophical. Then in the 2000s they went back and made additional episodes based on missing chapters including this chapter, which I was so glad to watch.

Love this series so much ❤
Love this series on the chapters. Chapter 3 plz🙏🏼
Wow 🤩 thank you for this video. Wonderful explanation of the game and history ❤👍🏻
Your videos are awesome, love the context.
