Feng Ji, the CEO of Game Science wrote all the lyrics of all the cinemation, which was mindblowing to me. It shows that he is talented and poured in heart and soul into making the game, which all people who appreciate the original "Journey to the West" can appreciate!
I see a long video about a game, from an creator with lots of knowledge and wisdom. I see, like and comment. Thank you kind lady for the indepth explanation.
I think she is dead in the game. If you go to the wall where you enter the Purple Cloud Mountain, but instead of entering that area, you go to the forest behind, you can find her tomb, this only triggers if you come back after defeating 1000 Eye Daoist.
Hello AvenueX, First you look gorgeous! Second, I really appreciate you taking the time to breakdown everything single detail and analyzing them in every chapter. I really appreciate it
Thank you for this video, I love this so much. As a Chinese person, it was quite sad to see non-Chinese speakers not pick up on details, because it felt like they were missing out. You put it together so well here!
Thanks so much for making these videos. I really appreciate your overviews and breakdowns. Your format of explaining the original text, then going step-by-step through what happens in the game is great.
You're a really good storyteller and the subject is interesting. I was originally planning on only watching 10 minutes and come back to it later and I hit play, than it ended in one hour later. Watched it all in one sitting.
Omg I really wish more Wukong players see your videos. I love the connections you draw, and the exact amount of details you give of the story to be interesting but not overwhelming.
Yellow Loong is indeed the best transformation. Not only he give you his scales, his weapon, he also give you his life, truly a generous scholar 🙏 I felt bad about vanquished all the dragons but their fate are sealed, they’re destined to reunite to become into one being again.
Chapter 4 definitely gave me Chinese Odyssey vibes from not just Violet Spider and Pigsy romance, but also 4th Sister and Destined One. Minus the monk singing Only You or annoying his enemies to self deletion. :p And you're right, it is definitely harder to unpack the conspiracy of the gold pills if you can only rely on the English. Game Science really delivered on their world building, and am thankful you took the time from talking about dramas to break down the narrative of this game.
Completely missed the plot with the gold pills. I remember I was confused then I heard they want to make a pill from the fourth sister, it all makes sense now! Really appreciate your breakdown of this chapter!
Same as me..I didnt know how sinister this chapter really is. I don't like the vibe when I was playing this chapter, dark and a lot of cocoons. Scared me a lot.
First off, Ba Jie's little daughter is so cute! Secondly, there's absolutely no way they'd kill a character like 四妹 off screen like that. There's definitely more to come.
@@BlaxkSun There's ebb and flow to storytelling. It's not that it's predictable, but you can tell when the writer is leading you somewhere. A story where "no one" is safe feels more like post-modern deconstructionism like George Martin, who one could say is the antithesis to classics like Journey to the West.
I was busy with work and couldn't keep up with your videos and BMW 2nd playthrough, but I am so glad that I can now watch both Chap.4 and 5. Thank you so much to your detail explanation that I can get deeper into the lore which was held back by the language barrier. Really anticipate for the DLCs and when they come, I have to say your videos will be the first that pop up in my mind because I'm more interested in the lore than the guides. Once again thank you so much, wishing you a happy life and when the DLCs hit, happy gaming.
I think it is Hou Yi in the animation. He is supposed to have a romanic relationship with one of the goddess of the moon. But love on the celestial palace is forbidden, so when Bejie saw they were together they afraid he would told everyone. So they reported him as harassing the lady (which he kind of did in one of the party) to cast him out. Same for the purple cloth lady/violet spider, she used to be in the celestial palace but because she loved Bejie, she couldn't stay there and came down to the human realm as a spider
Just finished this chapter yesterday! I only missed one boss because of a glitch, Daoist Mi, and I'm so happy I got through it before your new video dropped! I'm someone that absolutely does not like insects or spiders, so this chapter was VERY difficult for me.
There is one small detail this video didn’t explain. The mirror which is held by buddhas right hand which also shows the true form of zhu bajie was a gift to the violet spider from the “lady” who was mentioned in the opening cutscene (the master of the two pig yaoguai). The lady sent it as a gift some time ago but when violet spider looked into the mirror she did not like what she saw so she threw the mirror away. This soured the relationship between violet spider and the lady which is why the lady no longer visits the webbed hollow herself but rather sends her minions instead.
Your videos have really helped me appreciate the story of this game more and more. I just finished my 2nd playthrough and found myself really liking the story compared to the first time.
Thank you again for helping understand the story of Wukong. I have listened to all 4 chapters you have done so far. Very informative, light hearted, and fun. I can't wait for chapters 5.
I love this series so i dont really care how long i need to watch. I didn't read JTTW so i do not know a lot of the story/characters in the game. Your series really helped me to appreciate more for this game. Thank you, thank you ! In this chapter I already didn't get the deathbringer, and now you are telling me about this cool arm guard. Guess I need to allocate some time to play NG+. I really love the song and lyrics for the animation of this chapter. It really sad for the two lovers, and I really like cute Zhu Bajie.
@AvenueX Actually, there is more to suggest that the Violet Spider survived the ordeal. After completing chapter 4, if you go past where you accessed the secret area to the edge of the cliff, you will see a shrine. This is likely a shrine dedicated to the violet spider because it only appears after completing chapter 4. In the shrine, you will obtain the "Preservtion Orb" curios.
That is not a shrine, but Violet Spider‘s tombstone (if you can read Chinese, it says "Mother Zi Zhu'er's Tomb"). But who knows if this is a cover to hide the fact that she is still alive?
Yes! I was eagerly awaiting this overview =) This chapter seemed so emotionally heavy, even without having any prior knowledge of Journey to the West. Happy to see this breakdown and confirm and demystify any gaps.
Another very enjoyable hour and I cannot thank you enough for putting your precious time into the game to unpack everything so that we can completely understand what is happening in the game. Really looking forward to the next videos!
Another amazing video! I loved it! ❤❤❤ Now I cant wait for your video on chapter 5, because man the story behind it really shows how miserable life can be. I really deeply felt for the Spider living in chapter 4 as I now look at them finally feeling: Oh hold on, these are just like ordinary people! Damn it can I just saved them all for once? Because man, if DLC allows me to save the 4th spider sisters by going up to the Celestial Palace and Mount Ling Shan to wreck the entire palace then I would summon my inner Rage of Sparta from Kratos in GoW to repeat what happen in Olympus Pantheon. 😊😊
Been enjoying the series, it’s good to hear the differences between the novel and the game. One of these days I will have to sit through the audio book. Also love the different hair pins you have (if that’s what they are) that have had in each episode, they are amazing. Thanks.
Thanks for digesting and explaining the deep storyline and connections for all the non-Chinese speakers! Interesting to know that the game story plot designers put so much thought into the lore.
As mentioned so many times, thorough video like this clears up so so many things. If only there are some short story tellings or narration in every chapter for more background knowldge...it will make the gaming experience much more meaningful. (Bcs tbh not all the journals give clear explanation, and not all gamer willing to read them one by one)
The best chapter in Black Myth, even the animation song after beating the final boss is really sad. After learning about the lore story of zhubajie, it hits even harder
Thank you so much for your hard work in explanation as foreigner who don't know any mandarin except "ni hao". Your explanation make more clear and understanding in this beautiful game and yeah Why name of this game is "BLACK MYTH wu kong". Thank you!! P.s can't wait for chapter 5 and 6 and more :)

wow i have been trying to find explanation of Chapter 4, thanks!! If you go back to Chapter 4 after completing it, where you fought Venom Daoist. There is a big tree nearby with a gravestone, I think that is the grave for Violet Spider.
In the original novel, Bajie was cast down from the celestial court to become a pig because he got drunk and chased after Chang'e (moon goddess). Chang'e was married to Houyi (the guy who shot down the 9 suns). So the couple kissing in the cartoon was Chang'e and Houyi I think.
DLC idea: final stage 孙悟空(再次)大闹天宫, to save 四妹. Thank you for another wonderful video! I didn’t catch the Heaven farming operation angle from playing the game, but this really brings about the Black Myth part of the once “innocent” story of Journey to the West. I think the game works creatively with the chinese myths at large. Yaoguai being material for golden pills for Gods to lengthen their life makes a lot of sense when you realize that even one of the high ranking god like Xi Wangmu begin as a tigress Yaoguai. It is likely that many of the gods are actually just powerful yaoguai with divine offices, eating golden pills made out of yaoguai is only natural given that sacred divinity portrait mention how "only yaoguai kings takes from other yaoguai", not knowing that many of the higher ups are yaoguais themselves. Iirc during the scene where wukong talks in the hidden memory even said something along the lines of "the real demons are those celestials"
Great video as usual! In this chapter, if you come back to the cave where you fight the Venom Daoist, at the back of the cave there is a Grave. That grave wasnt there before we beat 100 eye Doaoist Master. Maybe that is the Violet Spider Grave?
Facing away from the Ch.4 secret wall painting there's an area with some small statues and a big tree in the middle. There's nothing of interest there at first but if you go back after beating Ch.4 there's a shrine there with a chest. Inside you will find the Preservation Orb which is supposedly one of Bajie's most treasured possessions. It seems he left it behind at the shrine there in secret, maybe to help Violet Spider recover. So touching. But we come along and take it, haha. Don't tell Bajie, shhh. Also the statues that were there, there's a reference to them in one of the yaoguai portraits.
The preservation orb is used to preserve dead body. The way to use it is to put it in the mouth of person who has passed away and it will prevent the body from decomposition. The fact that the orb was just laying there and not in Zizhuer means that she might possibly be still alive
After defeating the Hundred Eyed Daoist, and you go back to where you defeated the Venom Daoist 2nd time, you will see the tombstone of Violet Spider behind the big tree which implies she probably died.

@@LostWalletNo, she’s passed away. Her gravestone is in the Court of Illumination if you go back. Bajie gave her a Preservation Orb that he received back on his journey to the west. Not from the Lotus.
I fell into despair at the end of chapter 4 because bajie's story was heart breaking and the plot so far started to click and i started to understand the dark story behind BMWK. Chapter 4 was honestly the turning point for me as i no longer wanted to continue killing the yao guais. Taking a break as of now 😅
I realised from Chapter 1 that the item you obtained in the secret area of that chapter will usu help you in the final boss fight of that chapter...except chapter 3 (I don't count the melon field as a secret area). And I didn't use spell binder to defeat yellow brow (as what game science intended).
Salute for her deep lore in the game, she's like the vaativadya of wukong. She could turn the lore explaining like what vaati did with elden lord, with better asmr.
I love your video but i think the violet spider is dead because if you go back to the hidden wall art courtyard you will see her tombstone which was there in the first place.
Question, so I had the idea that in the original novel Zhu Bajie was expelled from heaven because he was inapropiate with Chang'e, but in the video you never mention that in the original novel. Also, you said "a moon godess" so that means there are multiple Chang'e s? Or is it that Chang'e is just one of multiple moon godesses? Loved the video!!
