Okay, so here's why Die Hard really is a Christmas movie.
Basically, for the plot to work, the film has to be taking place during a Christmas party. The bad guys are depending on most of the building's staff, not to mention most of the people working at Nakatomi, being off for the holidays. But they need a few people like Joseph Takagi to be around. Hence: Christmas party. The film literally would not work at any other time of the year. Thus, it is a Christmas movie.
Compare that to -- for example -- the movie "Lethal Weapon". Lethal Weapon might be set at Christmastime, but the truth is, it really could happen at any time of the year. Hence, not a Christmas movie.
You don't need a Christmas party, just a party. Plenty of other reasons to have a party besides Christmas.
Again, this only explains that is happens at that time of year, but it still doesn't make it a "christmas movie"! There's a difference between taking place during the christmas season and it being centered around christmas, the latter is what is a "christmas movie", the former is just set during that season. Get the difference yet?
I love this movie! Netflix has a series called Movies That Made Us where they cover this movie. So many interesting tidbits about it, specifically is that it they took a big chance on Bruce Willis who, up to that point, was only known for his tv show Moonlight.

Hi Michelle. A little movie tid bit for you. The look of fear on Hanz face when he falls from the window was genuine. He was rigged to be dropped on the count of three. But they dropped him on two in order to get a genuine reaction on his face. It worked quite well i would say.

Great movie. It was Alan Rickman Rip breakout role. You should watch the sequel which is even more a Christmas movie . Another great underrated action Christmas movie you should see is Reindeer games 2000 with Ben Affleck. no one react to it yet.
It's not a traditional Christmas movie but it really is one. The entire movie was during Christmas eve and Christmas was mentioned lots of times during the movie
It was a Christmas movie. I like to think the cop is in the same universe as Ghostbusters and Family Matters. What better Christmas gift than getting your family back together AND saving the lives of all the hostages? It's not really Christmas until Hans falls from the tower.
R.I.P. Clarence Gilyard Jr. (Theo the bad guy computer whiz). He passed away November 28, 2022 at the age of 66 after a long illness. Gilyard had a long and successful career with starring roles in later episodes of TV's C.H.I.P.S. (20 eps), the movie Top Gun, Die Hard of course, TV's Matlock w/ Andy Griffith (85 eps) and especially TV's Walker, Texas Ranger w/ Chuck Norris (196 eps). He became a devout Catholic and starred in several religious-themed movies such as the Left Behind series with Kirk Cameron. He also re-teamed with Bonnie Bedelia (Holly McClane) in the obscure film Christmas on the Coast in 2018.

There are 4 more Die Hard movies. Die Hard 2 is also at Christmas and it involves some of the same characters. Number 3 has a big name costar and the bad guy is Hans' brother. I think number 5 is the one where John's daughter Lucy is dating a tech guy that helps John throughout the movie. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓 I have watched all of them a number of times as a lot of the men I have dated love them and I have spent enough time in the room while not serving them the food and drinks they tell me to get for them so they can keep watching. I am fine serving them as I have had a LOT of practice since my Mom was in bad health from when I was 9 until she passed when I was 14. I cooked and cleaned and cared for my dad and 4 brothers since 9 and as an adult woman I still do at my house. My dad spends most of his time here and I have family and holiday events here all the time. It is natural for me to NEED to serve men since I have done it since I was so young.
I hope they have shown appreciation for all you've done... or done some nice things for you as well.

I even purchased service uniforms to wear in order to attract more attention from them. Their overwhelming favorite uniform is any of my 3 different material French Maid uniforms with fishnet pantyhose and one of my sexy pairs of 6 inch High Heels to 7 inch Ballet High Heels. In case you don't know what those are, they put my feet in constant position where I have to stand or walk on the end of my toes while I have them on. Sometimes I actually lock them on so I have to wait to have them unlocked by whichever man I give the keys to. His free choice when that happens no matter how long it is! 👍👍😊😊👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤❤❤

For me one of the most stirring moments when Al fired his gun. The first we don't know who fired, then they did focus change from The gun barrel to his face. What really sealed it for me was the triumphant music they played over that.

Not your usual "Glamour Shots" situation, eh? No worries, as long as you're relaxed and comfortable. That "hockey puck" was a flash-bang grenade, not a bomb, to distract the target more than destroy something. ARGYLE, the limo driver (not Paisley). This IS a Christmas movie (granted it's only Christmas Eve, but heck, so was "It's a Wonderful Life"!) and a Bro-Mance flick (John/Roy and Al form a unique bond). The saddest part: Holly loses her Rolex watch.

That's his incorrect opinion. He can CLAIM it's a christmas movie all he wants, but it's NOT. It simply takes place in the christmas season, but it's not what a christmas movie is or is meant to be, sorry not sorry. I can watch this at any time of the year, doesn't make me get into the spirit of christmas and that's what christmas movies are meant to do.

(After hunting for weeks I finally got a “La La” and a “Po” for my infant son after queuing at ToysRus from 04:00 to 09:00…….nightmare)!
@@dafarsher9738 Lmao wow yeah that’s understandable and I imagine played out quite like that movie did! I worked the holidays at Toys R Us, it was literal hell so I feel your pain. One day during the chaos we had a ‘code Adam’ which is a lost child in the store, could possibly be getting kidnapped, etc. so the moment the code is called over the walkies we all immediately stopped what we were doing, locked the doors, blocked all exits, and got to work trying to find the lost kid while the others guarded the exits. He somehow got into the store room and we found him back there hiding in the boxes, kid was like 4. The adults shopping had the AUDACITY to complain that we weren’t ringing anyone out or wrapping their shit! It took all I had to not punch a few people that day I’ll tell you! Even saying “Sir, if it was YOUR child lost and possibly getting kidnapped, wouldn’t you want us to stop what we were doing and find them first!?” didn’t seem to get through his thick skull. Humans suck sometimes lol.

Fun Fact That Face Hans Gruber makes when he Falls off the Building is Real because The Actor Fell about 30 feet onto a pad and the Director told him we'll drop you on the Count of 3 but they drop him on One so he wasn't expecting it so his facial expression is Real.

You have now watched one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made. A lot of people will usually put their favorite version of A Christmas Carol just above it.
Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It is also an action movie, but while those genres rarely cross over, they are not mutually exclusive. Both John McClane and Hans Gruber are only in the building because it's Christmas Eve. John in the hope of reuniting with his estranged wife. Hans because he knows there will be a finite number of people in the building, enough to give him the amount of hostages he needs, with the options to shoot a few if necessary, but not too many that he can't control them. John represents the traditional family values of Christmas, Hans the corrupted materialistic side.
There is Christmas iconography in pretty much every scene. All of the music that is not part of the film's original score is Christmas music. In fact, the villains' theme in this film is Ode to Joy, which is not exclusively a Christmas theme, but definitely gets played more during December.
We even get an end scene of it "snowing" in LA. Granted, the "snow" is burnt Bearer Bonds, but it still counts.
No, it's not a christmas movie, it just happens to "happen" during the christmas season. It could literally be centered around any other holiday and it would play out the same and with the same feel.
You should do some interviews with Ashleigh Burton, Ash & Hannah, Popcorn in Bed, etc, like you did with other reactors. Those are fun.

I liked them all and I think you’d like them too … I hope you’ll decide to watch those as well. Defonately a Christmas movie. It has Christmas music, Christmas trees and decorations, sleigh bells in the score. It also had family traveling and coming together for the holidays as well as sweaters galore and ending with newly found friends. What's not Christmas about that. Definately a Christmas Movie.

I say it is because The whole heist was planned for Christmas eve, when the building wouldn't be open because of an office Christmas party
and the building would be empty,but enough people to take hostage,
John came to see his family because it was Christmas, with a Christmas present
It had Christmas music, Christmas Decor, plenty of Christmas references, and in the end a family got back together,a life long friendship developed and, besides 2 people all the hostages got to go home to their families

("Harry Potter"? I don't do that Witches and Wizards stuff.;) Bruce Willis was best known as the "TV guy", on the Rom-Com series "Moonlighting." As for "John McClane," he's not a muscular Rambo type, takes damage, has moments of fear/doubt/introspection, and is "dead man walking" by the third act. In short, an Everyman, admired by all kinds of people.
I love, love your reactions, but I've wondered if you've ever reacted to older films around the 50's-60s? Yea, I know the regular viewer would be like blah, boring. But these films are NOT. They are amazing and suspenseful. They are very loved. The films that I'm talking about are Wait Until Dark (1967) and The Nanny (1965). They are more like suspense thrillers and will have you on the edge of your seat. If you watch Wait Until Dark, that's a movie that should be watched with the lights off.
