One of the saddest and most beautiful songs from my teenage years.... Still takes me back. Can't turn it off on the radio if it comes on. Makes me think of someone long gone that I loved a lot.

You can hear a little hint of this sound in the Beatles later stuff, as much as the Beatles were great I personally think ELO are one of the greatest to ever do it. Just happy music that seems to spark the mind.

Its amazing how when we use to have just home phones, this is exactly how it was when you were calling the one you loved long distance. Praying they would be home to pick up so you could hear their voice. Now there's cell phones where you can blow up people's phone or text til they answer, just not the same. Miss the good ole days :(

My older sister had this 45. It was part of a group of assorted 45s she received one year for Christmas. My parents bought the group of records from the Sears catalog. Some years-ago, I started to tell this to a young man in his late teens. I realized I would have to explain 45 RPM records AND explain the Sears catalog. I decided it was too much work!

+Dr.hookyeah Once I told my son, he was 12, told him about some song I had on my record..... he said, 'what's a record?' Which led to my albums, like Sgt Pepper & etc. ---- he was into hip-hop then one day, he was 13 yrs old, he was visiting me, sitting on the sofa n headphones on listening to his iPod, I happen to hear the music from his headphones, I said, 'wo wo wait a minute, that sounds like ------ George Harrison's Here Comes the Sun!' wow from hip-hop to the Beatles, damn I'm proud of myself, but I have to say there is good hip-hop, rap music but to see my son, who has now listened to most of the Beatle albums, on cd's and on records cause I still have my phonograph, you remember those hanh, - Sgt Pepper to Let It Be, he's 23 now .... puts a smile on my face!

It took me years to forgive myself and let her go, her way, the way it has happened. May she rest in peace. I will always remind her with me the good and loving memories. Next to failures there were many good things with my mom. Thank you.

The album A New World Record and Out of the Blue were embedded into my brain via cassette tapes on a road trip from LA to the Bay Area for my oldest sister's wedding. One of my other sisters shared the ride with me and my Pop and was pulling her hair out by the end of the trip since both me and my Pop were enjoying the fabulous harmonies and catchy hooks all too well known for ELO. Ah good times.

  • @motnosniv

Jeff's voice is like a chameleon. He can sing harmonies like no other. As a songwriter he has no equal. I mean who starts a musical career with cellos? Too bad today's radio hosts don't have the freedom that the DJs in the 70s had to choose the music they put on the air.

Great song that also incorporates '50s Doo Wop as well. the year 2000 is a long time ago now, much less 19 anything.

The Danny McGrath who graduated from Knibb Highschool in 1984???
    ...
[Danny reaches down, grabs a marker and uses it to cross Billy's name off of a list on his wall titled, "PEOPLE TO KILL". Once done, he puts on a large amount of bright red lipstick, sighs in relief and sits back to listen to his music]

    Hello?
    - Hi. Is this Danny McGrath?
    - Yeah.
    The Danny McGrath that graduated
from Knibb High School in 1984?
    - Uh, yeah. Who's this?
    - This is Billy Madison.
    You probably don't remember me,
but I went to high school with you.
I kinda gave you a hard time back then,...
..and I did some things that
I thought were funny at the time,...
    ..but now I realise they
    were just mean and stupid.
And I just wanted to apologise,
and I hope you forgive me.
Yeah, sure. Don't worry about it.
    Wow! That's great!
Well, I am sorry, and maybe
we can get together some time...
    ..and have coffee or somethin'.
    - Sure, I'd like that.
    - OK. Well, I'll see you around.
    OK. Bye.
