My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Hygge is the word that means cozy and I believe it's said: "hoo-guh" in English.
Hygge is Danish, gezellig is the Dutch one....
Taylor a un joli appartement qu'elle a décoré avec beaucoup de goût. J'adore les petits tableaux et les dessins d'enfants, c'est trop mignon. Les boites rondes vertes sur l'étagère viennent du "Palais des thés" ? j'aime beaucoup cette boutique de thés. Merci à Taylor de nous avoir montré son appartement avec son agréable sourire et sa gentillesse.

Awesome piece. Thanks for doing this. Yes, Taylor, must have some very satisfied students. People should not compare to NYC rents. Paris in itself is pretty expansive. What Taylor is paying is basically the equivalent to a month salary of a minimum wage worker.
I love Taylor’s lounge. So bright yet really cosy. Yeah her kitchen is definitely quirky but she’s made it look really great as she has with the rest of her apartment. Plus she drinks Yorkshire Tea! 👍

I love the apartment, especially the living room ceiling. Even the quirky kitchen is nice.

Plein nord, tarabiscoté et bas de plafond pour 1300. Voila ce que l'on est pret a payer pour vivre a Paris dans des quartiers qu'on aime (born and raised). Its bittersweet to me not to be a downer. Mais good for Taylor if she enjoys !

ok nicely done, it is so great to really see what its like to live in Paris. I love how despite the set up she made it her place. I keep hearing how hard it is to rent in Paris, However, do your research, have a positive attitude and know someone that knows someone. lol Traveling to these countries are amazing but living in them are two different things, Merci beaucoup.
Definitely a challenge to get settled, but once you're through the door things do get easier.

“No one has dryers in Europe” Maybe not in France but I guess I’ve had a dryer here in Denmark for at least 20 years. So dryers are very common in Denmark

Lovely apartment! I am interested in learning more about Taylor’s experience teaching in France. As someone finishing my last year as a lector and wanting to stay in France, it would be insightful to learn about her path to becoming a teacher here.
Taylor has been on a profession liberale visa for freelance theatre/english teaching with several schools for years now, and recently successed in obtaining a European passport through heritage, which is very exciting!
The word is cozy...Hugga (ph. hoogah) or Hugglie (ph. hooglie) and it's Danish but likely the Dutch have a word for this too.

Omg, i also live in Paris and someone passed by last week. I just came out of the shower and a man without teeth was in front of my door. He also wanted to control the gas and the chimney. Luckily I have neither of them. He still wanted to come inside and I said no. He immediately became kind of angry and told me that this is against the law what I'm doing and that I have to pay a fine.

Nice place to live. Just for comparison I live in expensive Switzerland and pay the same for rent, the only difference being that mine is a new build and I have 75 square metres (+ 13 square metres balcony space) - double the amount in this video and even that is considered to be more on the pricey side of things.
Hold on, I never had a house, apparemment or room without a washing machine and dryer. And European. Hygge is the Danish version of Gezellig.
Maybe it's just France then? Dryers aren't done over here, and if they are, they certainly don't dry the way North American dryers do!
@@JaySwanson Hate to be 'that person' but even in France, people have dryers. Not sure how 'common' they are but people do have them. I am one of them. They are for sale in shops so people are buying them.
Where I live in France, and my current circumstances, I simply wouldn't have dry clothes in winter without one. It also works great. I know most people in North America don't like front loader washing machines and non venting (condenser) dryers. Saves having to put a hole in the wall though.
In the warmer months our clothes are hung outside where we have lots of space. Just not practical in these colder wet months.
Mind me asking what brand you have if it works great? Emily, who works for me, hasn't managed to find one yet and she lives in a rainy area XD
1250 Euros is super cheap. In my city--LA--one bedroom apartments are $2400.

How did she get rid of the bed bugs?
The apartment was actually fumigated a few times for both cockroaches and bedbugs, and they got ride of any furniture that was infested. It was a long process, but got there.

this is one of the worst apartments ever - how anyone wants to pay that much for that mess -i cannot follow that thought process- I guess the apartment situation in Paris is dismal.
It's a cute apartment. And unfortunately rent prices like those are very common in the US as well now. Even for one bedrooms/studio apartments. Don't be completely out of touch.
