The real test isnt out of the dryer. The real test is when you wear the shirt and start sweating again in the shirt that has previously been stinky. How quickly does that shirt begin to stink again during your next sweaty workout and how bad does it smell. Thats the real test.
They passed the working out and yard work smell test too. It was a long time before any smell started to linger again. But, regular maintenance soaks for the clothes you sweat in is best. 👍
I appreciate your video!! I don’t use fabric softeners- but I do happen to know, that your sweat is odorless (unless you have a very specific condition), it’s the bacteria that creates the “stink”. Also, sweat isn’t just water- it contains urea amongst other things that are more like oils. We ALL know oils are tricky and/or sometimes impossible to remove from your clothing. I’m not “correcting” anyone, bc no one is necessarily wrong. I’m just giving a little PSA.
I think I will try this on the soak cycle in my washer. I have too many clothes that need this to fit in buckets and my washer also has taken on that odor.
Try laundry stripping. It's borax, washing soda, and detergent in a tub and soak for 4-6 hours but I've done as much as 24 before. The invisible deodorant residue came out of my polyester shirts and was just pulled to the surface of them as this awful sludge that I could then scrub out by hand before putting in the wash. You can add oxiclean to the soak and I usually do. The water turns pitch black sometimes from the amount of built up detergent, oils, and other residue and it was shocking! It really helps to get out all that residue before putting them through the wash.
Good tip. I use a laundry stripping recipe like that on my hand towels when they get grungy. I've never tried it for odors though. You can see the recipe I use here, if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/utb3of_w-HA/видео.html
Heres one to try. For some reason i thought, if skunk recipes work for on dogs, why wouldn't it work for clothes❓️🤔 i watched some RUclips videos and found a great recipe...1quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 c baking soda and one teaspoon of dawn dishwashing liquid. I put it in the kichen sink to soak maybe 30min then i put in the washer. I added vinegar and lemon juice. It worked. I also saw a recipe where someone added isopropyl alcohol so i may add that but i dont really need it Try it next time and tell us what you think New sub😘
When you put the shirts in the washer you also put in everything you treated them all with as well as adding more OxiClean, so you didn't really test each product that you soaked the shirts in. You had all of those products, as well as added OxiClean in the wash cycle.
Having those extra things in the wash may help a little, but not enough to get the smell out of stinky shirts. Really, it's only a long soak that can kill all of that deep, built up bacteria. Trust me, I tried a bunch of these things just in the washer, none of them worked. That's why pre-treats and soaks are recommended for stink and stains. 👍
I’m going to use the oxiclean….I also love their products. I love baking soda and vinegar too, but not for this tough job lol. It’s bad…every one of my shirts is just RANK in the pits. So I will probably go out to get the odor eliminator variety. Then I’m gonna buy a different deodorant lol. Used the “versatile” variety to scrub sweat stains out of my pillows and mattress today. You just can’t beat it.
The soak overnight was what I needed to get rid of the stink in my shirts. I think washing with the odorblasters regularly would be better at preventing stink.
My daughter is 13 and 5'10, she wears my clothes, i will wash my clothes, and as the day goes on I'm like, oh my gosh!!! Why do my armpits smell SO bad?! I changed deodorant brands 3 times and nothing was working, one evening my husband pointed out that he saw our daughter in my shirt the week prior, and i smelled like her after a hot day. My body was warming up the funk in the clothes and making me think it was me thst smelled. I have tried everything under the laundry isle, and a mix of cleaners that made my eyes burn, finally i took to reddit, and found a few posts swearing by meat tenderizer or mouth wash. I have 3 teenagers, the clothes in this house smell bad straight out of the wash. Until now. I go through meat tenderizer like a chef, but we don't have smelly clothes. Not sure how long the fabric will last but at thia point the shirts were unbearably smelly so they were trash anyways 😅
I only actually do it a couple times a year (when I notice I have a stinky shirt or two). You could use Odor Blasters whenever you wash the clothes you sweat in (to keep them fresh longer).
On cotton tee undershirts --- I haven't done it this demonstrated way, but I've used as much as a half gallon of white vinegar in the wash, and to tat added as much as 3 big boxes of baking soda, plus used the All brand of Oxi detergent, washed, then repeated. Dry full dry. They come out okay. But after I've folded and put them in the drawer, then come back and take them out of the drawer for use, the odor is back. I've even soaked them in salt water overnight to kill the bacteria. Same result. I'll try method in this video, and if they doesn't work, will take them to homeless shelter and buy new ones.
This sounds crazy but meat tenderizer has worked on my teenagers armpit smells. Dampen the shirt and rub meat tenderizer, leave for 20 minutes, rinse and wash as normal. That and mouth wash
I hand out coats and blankets to the homeless around my city, please don't donate smelly clothes; they hate that. They use deodorant and keep baby wipes on hand and use park bathrooms to wash their pits. In the summer when they start to smell even they throw away their shirts. There are some of course who are mentally ill and don't care for themselves as well, but they should get nice smelling clothes too. Just cut them up and turn them into cleaning rags, throwing away the pit areas of course.
I grew up with 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda and it takes out the smell of cat urine if the cat decided to pee on the clothes on the floor.
Vinegar soak then Baking soda/washing soda Soak. Vinegar reduces the effectiveness of tide because it is acidic and tide is alkaline. Occasionally you can add Hydrogen Peroxide to the Baking Soda/Washing Soda soak but do so sparingly because it will have a bleach effect on clothing if overexposed. Anyway double soak works well. Vinegar reduces the effectiveness of detergents because it is acidic. My GF is Nigerian. A good percentage of African Immigrants don't have good luck with American detergents by themselves because, due to the hotter climate the people there have adapted by having a greater number of pores on average than Europeans. More pores, more sweat. Science. I visited Nigeria several times and sure could have used more sweat pores. Pro Tip: If your GF has a body odor problem in her clothing you will need ninja like Diplomatic skills to bring this to her attention and help with a solution.
I generally don't mix the two for anything I do. The mixture ends up turning into basically salt water. This article does a great job of explaining how: www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/why-shouldn-t-mix-baking-193000340.html

I heard Pine Sol does the trick.
I thought I was going to throw those shirts away! I'll try one or two of these.

Thanks! Yep, you're right, what we commonly call sweat smell or foot odor or most other body odors are actually caused by bacteria growth. 👍
It is also synthetic fabrics...they hold onto oil and parabens as opposed to cotton and wool.
I think I will try this on the soak cycle in my washer. I have too many clothes that need this to fit in buckets and my washer also has taken on that odor.
How'd it go? How long is the soak cycle?

but then that bleaches the clothes... what if you have black tshirts with musty smell?

Can you please tell me which meat tenderizer (brand??) , I need this for my son's t-shirts.
Meat tenderizer😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How does this work on uniforms? They smell nice out of the dryer, but after a days worth of outside sweating, they get a strong musty odor.
Should work. Just be sure to let it soak overnight. :)
Did the oxi clean leave a scent? Cuz i love the smell of that stuff
Just a light scent 👍
how often do you do this ? every time you wash or like every other time ? for the gym clothes
I only actually do it a couple times a year (when I notice I have a stinky shirt or two). You could use Odor Blasters whenever you wash the clothes you sweat in (to keep them fresh longer).
@@AbbottsAtHome make sense i was thinking it would get very expensive if i did it every wash

Soaking in OxiClean Odorblasters overnight is definitely my go to fix now. None of those shirts smell, to this day. Hopefully it works for you too! 🤞
@@AbbottsAtHomePicking some up today. Thanks!
so did the oxyclean work?? Im in the same boat as you....All my shirts stink in the collar and all of them are brand new......

Anyone try enzyme cleaners, e.g. pet stain remover?
I haven’t. I know some people also mention meat tenderizer. But, that’s another one I haven’t tried.
Where did you get your buckets?
Either Target or my local grocery store.
I grew up with 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda and it takes out the smell of cat urine if the cat decided to pee on the clothes on the floor.
I did too, but MAN! It does nothing for my teenagers armpit smells left behind in their shirts.
I heard to never mix soda with vinegar as they cancel each other out? Could someone let me know if that's true of is mixing them the solution instead?
How do you use it? Do you spray it directly? Or do you soak your clothes in them?
@@desireevankuykIt does. Vinegar is useful and baking soda too but not together.
But how did it smell after you wore it and sweating in it again?
They just smell like t-shirts when I wear them. Even when I workout. 👍
Ahhh cause sometimes I’ve had the experience where it still lingers after a workout so do I just soak it longer?

does it need to be done everytime the shirt is used
I only do it every 6 months. But, you could probably prevent stink using the odor blasters regularly with your detergent. 😊

my wife stopped using deodorants as the aluminum inside them was staining her shirts.
