To be fair, wouldn’t make much sense if I didn’t explain the whole final great conflict of Classical Greece thing before bringing Philip into the conflict. However the next episodes will no focus much more on Philip again
@@ArchaiaHistoriaNo problem man you do you, it just that by the point Philip appears I had forgotten the subject of the video.

You are serbo bulgarians do you realistically believe the ancient macedonians were slavic...
Bulgarians are considered most closely related to the neighboring Macedonians and it is sometimes claimed that there is no clear ethnic difference between them.

Couldn't wait!!!!
Just for you mate!
These are absolutely worth the wait.
Yes sadly I’ve kept you all waiting for a while for the next episode. Although I will be continuing this series
@@ArchaiaHistoria Nah man take your time, quality>quantity. Thanks is for your work.
I really enjoy your videos !! from what i've seen they are really historically accurate and objective and seem to avoid political potholes of nationalism. My personal thoughts as to the term "Greece" is that Greece seems to appear in the 15th century Royal Society English writings/translations from what I've personally read, that a more appropriate name would be the Latin "Grecia " Land of the Greeks or in the Hebrew "Javan" but the areas you describe geographically are supported by a lot of historical texts albeit the modern nation of Greece now encompasses a lot of these regions and most people can relate to "Greece" as a geographic location. Some suggestions for videos I would like to see is the origins of the "Greek" or learned peoples including nobles, aristocrats, philosophers and how they developed over time and also the origins of the Macedonians as from what I've seen the common opinion is that they originated in the Peloponnese. Another topic is that in earlier videos you have described that the Macedonians were possibly a Doric speaking tribe which I'm sure is the Koine Greek language that was a universal dialect of the Old Greek spoken by many tribes of the Balkan peninsula, this topic is of great interest to me also as this has shaped a lot of popular opinion as to the ethnicity of the Macedonians. Really looking forward to the continuation of this series and I can only imagine the quantity of work that has gone into this existing series let alone future ones!!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Modern geopolitics and nationalism is definitely a minefield when explaining ancient identities. Even our understanding of what “Greece” is, is dependent on geographical, cultural and linguistic context.
Your video suggestions sound quite interesting, I’ll have to give them a look once I’m done with the current back pile. And don’t worry Philip is making a return*
Well now I am intrigued
Can’t wait until you finish the series
I love it when you upload a video

Great channel, im glad I found it.
finally it's worth the wait
Thanks for the focus on Philip II,few realize that he was truly greater than Alex in so many ways.Philip started from almost nothing, whereas Alex began his reign with all that Philip had created.(Macedonian Army and its tactics and the first true nation state in Europe) to name just a few advantages.

Man I hope when u are done with this period of history you cover some of the lesser known or minor events of Ancient Greek history before and after this period and during the Hellenistic Age such as the situation in Greece before the Persian Wars and cities like Pergammon
I do plan on covering a lot of the history leading up to Alexander. Soon I’ll be covering topics like: the late Classical history of Magna Graecia and Sicily, Corinthian War, Late history of Persia, etc.
@@ArchaiaHistoria It's all very exciting stuff
"philip enters greece?" oh boy, what a title.
there was no "greece" back then. and he was already among the hellenic tribes. doric to be exact.
Bring phillip baaaack
Oof that is quite the plot twist. Very intense.
How will he recover? Find out next time!
hay your still alive
Correct your title, Phillip , from Macedonia , that was (and is) part of North Hellas/Greece, entered South Hellas/Greece. And he managed to unite whole Hellas (Greece as you say it in modern day English) and orginize the attacj to Persia. But he was murdered, so Alexander materialized that attack.
No serious historian claims otherwise my friend its just that until now Philip was mostly occupied with the barbarian kingdoms in the north not with the affairs in greece expect athens,I think the title is okay
As Panos Katrinakhs said, in ancient geographic terms Macedon and Greece and the Peloponnesus are all seperate places that are a part of “Greece” as a whole. Sort of like if you went from say Lorraine to Normandy, you wouldn’t say “I went from France to France” you would say the specific regions
And then Philip II got his revenge in 352 BC at the battle of Crocus Field. It is believed that Onomarchus drowned in the ocean trying to flee the Macedonian encirclement.
I thought you wouldn't continue your videos serie
Sometimes I do upload videos

What u mean Phillip enter to Greece?
I m not sure if this word existed back then.. Zululand
That's typical of slavoscopian tactics in order to justify their
Fabricated historical lies and propaganda.
By trying to differentiate between
Greeks and Macedonians when in fact they wereall Hellenes(Greeks).
I bet all my money that you are from Banana 🍌 Republic and you never learned how to read!
What the hell he didn't go into Greece. Macedonia was always part of the Greek world. Don't make false titles.
@Nom Anor Because they didn't that's why. When your ancestors were probably screeching and trying to find caves, the Greeks had scientists and philosophers and get this: historians. With real, factual evidence (Skopia doesn't have those even today) and they would all conclude that Macedonia was in fact Greek. There is no need for historical revisionism, but even if you didn't take this into account, you couldn't prove in a million years that Macedonia wasn't a part of the Hellenic world. The Greeks didn't call them foreigners, only those with political interests did (the kind of politics that goes on today did evolve from the Greek democracy after all). So the people that had conflicting political interests with the Macedonians would even argue that they weren't even Greek at all (at the time Greek meant civilised in the Greek world). But that wasn't based on facts.
The facts are that their language was a dialect of Greek, their culture was pretty much the same as the rest of the Greeks, they participated in the Olympic games, which were only for Greeks, most of them had Greek names that even a modern Greek can understand (however as in any Greek state there were some regional names) and in all the official recordings that we have from the Macedonians, written in Attic, the Greek lingua franca, they themselves considered themselves to be Greek. And fun fact: they still do.
Strabo, one of the most well-known ancient Greek historians, said:
ΕΣΤΙΝ ΟΥΝ ΕΛΛΑΣ ΚΑΙ Η ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ.
Which means: So, Macedonia too, is Greece.
I didn't like to point out religions have no connection to race.
Don't stupidly throw around racist as a word, it's idiotic these days.
@Nom Anor The Greeks considered almost everyone that did not behave like them as barbarians at the beginning.
You also have to look at the politics of the Greek States. Macedonia worked in a completely different way than the rest of the Greek States. You must consider that accepting a powerful state like Macedonia to mess with the balance of power in Greece was not in the interest of the Greek States.
He did march into and conquered Greece. He was Greek indeed though and Macedonia is too. I don't get what that other guy means to say with modern orthodox Greeks. He is probably butthurt about something weirdly absurd that only he can find important for some reason.

In anqiutiy Greece was not a united country like today. it was still region where an assortment of states with Greek identity lived. (much like ancient Germany) Macedonia was considered Greece in antiquity. Any serious debate that is if it was not Greek is a modern debate that "coincidentally" revolves around the bizarre renamed of the former Yugoslavia into "Macedonia".
You know what is federation ?
It is like you are famed that all Greeks were united !
And the identical ramparting came like in Ancient time! Macedonian are separated by new historical happenings !
You asked for it and you have got it !
From 1977/78 you have been self flatered that Macedonia was Greece !
Ha ha ha
This is now our pay back !

Greeks and slavoskopians are not the same.
But Greeks and Macedonians are the same.
Maybe yugoslavian clown you can tell us what Macedonian is
Not Greek!!
Greeks DEFINITELY the same with Makedonians, totally different from North Macedonia though. Greeks are just Greeks and North Macedonia a mix of Albanians, Turks and Bulgarians, slavic origin I better say. Greeks are Greeks for 2700 years!

There was no greece at that time.Greece was formed in 1831 thats why you find a map with greece on it until then. And greece in latin means combination of countries. And they were not called greeks before then.If i was a modern day greek id be offended being called greek.I know hellenic people that are offended
It is called Hellas for 2700 years now. Greco, Γραικός we were called by the Romans and it means, the old ones in Greek, or because of our origins. Grecos was the son of Zeus and Pandora. Yunan from Ίωνες we've been called to our Eastern borders. You have to understand that Greece 🇬🇷 was a vast country who occupied many others all these people gave us different names but for the local population it's Hellas for thousands of years now
SO you say Greece but Greece didn't exist as aname back then so Who is what and what is who? Phillip entering an area suggests he entered another country not a fellow state as people want us to believe. This thus proves well shows Macedonia was a kingdom and separate to the southern part of the Aegean sea. Macedonia is an independent Kingdom and are not Hellenic. Sadly the greeks of today don't want you to believe this ….
@Kaly Let us compare to today. There are many many countries with English written coins, are these countries all English? Also I am Macedonian but I communicate using the English language. I prefer the Economic structure of the UK compared to Macedonia. Thus If I go to Macedonia and Implement Similar Micro/macro economics and then mint coins to allow trade with a Wealthy nation to start commerce Is Macedonia the UK? The truth is no one knows 100% But what I do know is that Macedonia was 700km away and if one was to walk the distance as that was how the majority of transport was it was over 15 days away on foot if one travels at 5km an hour for 8 hours a day... THAT SIR IS ANOTHER WORLD AWAY,..... another country you could say, and as you Athenians loved to call us.... BARBARIANS. SO please when one visits an area and brings back ideas It doesn't mean they are now this new country. Athens had good ideas I will give them that just like people gained a lot from China... is the whole world China. Please Greece today stole Macedonia Under the Treaty of Bucharest. That we do know. Good Day.

Greek was not a foreign language to Macedonia. according to most linguists and philologists, the Macedonians spoke a unique doric variant from Northwestern Greek stock.

"Please Greece today stole Macedonia"
There has been a recorded residence of Greeks in the region of Macedonia since Antiquity and even before the arrival of pontic refugees, the Greeks were the predominant population in the south (real Macedonia), even rebelling against the Ottomans in 1821.
Greece stole nothing. Your people in those times were always recorded as "Bulgarians" in population censuses.
