    Trials and tribulations. Get a dang fuel gauge of some kind in, even a hack job. Running a diesel dry is a mean thing to do to it (especially at a rail crossing!!). LOL
    Also, when scaling a vehicle? Split the axles. The overall weight is good knowledge, but weight distribution is better knowledge. That commercial scale has multiple scales for just that reason. Steers/drivers/tandems/other.

    I think you have to have a "Clutched Alternator Pulley"
    The alternator pulley is also vital to absorbing crankshaft pulsations from hitting the alternator. As the crankshaft rotates it rapidly changes speeds for milliseconds at a time between combustion events at each cylinder. These pulses are especially strong on 4-cylinder diesel engines. The alternator pulley absorbs these split second pulsations.

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  3 года назад

      I think so too, because I keep hearing that idea from knowledgeable people 🤔

    Random question - I'm rebuilding a 6BT and curious how the VHT header paint is holding up now that you've run the 4BT and driven your Disco for a bit. Any complaints with the paint system you used? I tried scanning the last couple of videos and couldn't find a good video shot of the exhaust manifold to judge it visually on my end. Appreciate the insight! I've enjoyed watching your channel.

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  3 года назад +1

      The VHT on exhaust manifold is looking perfect, and baking it off the engine definitely helps that. The engine paint is not great though, but painting in an uninsulated shed in the dead of winter played a big part in that.

    Compounds? I am running compounds with no adjustment to the injector pump and the increase in power is quite noticable. Running an HX35( minus the waste gate) over an WHX30 - no smoke
    I did switch to a 6bt oil pump which has more volume but no increase in pressure -the oil pressure drops to 25 when hot, old pump and single turbo it would drop to 20.You going to run that exhaust under the truck? Yep I am running a Donaldson dual filter system with the spin thingie on top - I was surprised to find the thing stuffed with leaves after one off road trip. 20,000 miles on her - managed to crack the back of the NV4500 housing, how on earth could a 4BT do that? Now you got me wanting tho weigh my rig.

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  3 года назад

      I did leave room on the passenger side for the possibility of future compound turbos + an exhaust brake. I stuck with the 4BT oil pump because I thought running the 6BT pump with matching cooler might actually "over cool" the engine since my wheeling area is cooler. I've got a Donaldson as well that I'm going to use between engine & snorkel.

    • @brucemitchell8642
      @brucemitchell8642 3 года назад +1

      @@Tinker1837 6BT oil pump - does not need the 6BT oil cooler, just run the pump. I put a restrictor in the supply line that is the same size as what the Holset came with went to a 12AN return line. I also supported the second turbo in an effort to take weight off the exhaust manifold. I am using a centre mount straight up manifold.

    • @brucemitchell8642

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  3 года назад

      Oh yeah I bet a brace/support is a great idea with the weight of two! It was the excess cooling of the 6BT cooler I was concerned with, but good to know you can get more volume as easy as installing a 6BT pump.
