Developed in 1950's, good for mostly slow low flying aircraft like propeller planes. Might be effective at shooting incoming helicopter convoys and most of what Russia is sending in terms of light armoured vehicles and PC's. You will not hit any fighter jets with that thing but would tear up infantry! It's old but so is a lot of the vehicles and armour in Europe making it still effective today in those regions. With a 30 second deployment time it makes it effective at hit and run attacks from staged positions and can be fired from the travelling position for emergencies.

I recall a Pole I worked with 20 years ago who had been in the Polish army during the Warsaw Pact days. He was in an AA unit, I think with these weapons. Anyway they were on exercise with their allies and weren’t happy with the meat rations. Well he he said that they always squirreled away a few rounds from live fire in case they lost some so they wouldn’t get in trouble.
Well they saw a lone cow at a farm and a few rounds improved the company rations. The Soviet officers were pissed but couldn’t prove they fired, the Polish company commander knew what happened but enjoyed the fruits of the labor and the higher Polish command battalion or regimental probably knew but really didn’t care. It was after all not a Polish cow.

@@MrRedeyedJedi Don’t know Andrew as we knew him, he explained the Polish equivalent but I don’t remember was part of the company but not part of the gun crew as I understood. Furthermore he lived the whole of his early life in Warsaw and as an urbanite didn’t take part in the acquisition or processing, just the cover up and benefits.
It may be that they had armor piercing or other non explosive ammunition but this is me remembering from a conversation 20 years ago about events that took place 12-20 years before that.
I seem to recall that he wasn’t a fan of the Russians but thought that the US put out propaganda as well to a lesser degree which I viewed as fair enough.
He got an engineering degree in Poland before the fall of the iron curtain so I think that he was likely in a communications or clerical role.

Shrug, in the 80's as a TOW gunner, our priority was to take out a zsu-23-4 over a tank, unless the tank was closer. Same with the zsu-57. We had to preserve our air superiority. The TOW was too valuable an asset to use on a mere truck, because firing it gave away the location and we had a pretty good chance of being toast shortly afterward, given their numerical superiority (Warsaw Pact) in artillery. The fact these are even still in use is incredible. It would be like us pulling out a French 75 and telling the National guard to go get 'em.

Just because they are training/ target shooting with it does not mean that it cannot rip an APC in half...or a house ...
Being high up on the back of a truck out in the open is a V bad place to be ...

Dude, it has absurd recoil. If he aims at 600m a vehicle every 4th shell goes into the skies. Look how it rocks this 8t+ truck. This ain no pick-up by Toyota and it has a recoil mitigation system and hydraulic stabilizing of the whole truck. In Poland, we carry and use it even on 6x6 trucks and it still rocks them like no tomorrow. This is the way of using it flat not the choppers.

Rounds like that would bounce off any modern tank. It frequently takes 3 or 4 RPG or Rocket rounds to decommission a Tank and the crew may survive. There's a video of a Ukrainian APC shooting 30mm rounds into a Russian BMP and it took like 25 rounds just to catch it on fire. The newest Russian T14 is like the M1a1 Abrams.
