Arcane Pixel Staff Test (DIY Handheld Persistence of Vision Display)

  • I wanted to build a persistence of vision display for my Renaissance Fair wizard cosplay with the intention to display arcane sigils and designs, though it should be able to display anything. This was the first test, it is displaying a square (although it appears very pixelated). Inspired from the normally static fan-like POV displays, this display is designed to fold from a walking staff to a display you can spin to show an image or animation. It uses a WS2812B LED strip controlled via an ESP32 development board and an AMT103-V encoder with an IMU (MPU6050). The IMU is unused in this first test, the display is driven solely by the encoder.
    CAD and code will be available when I'm satisfied with the design. This thing is kinda terrifying to swing around right now
