  • I was browsing Aliexpress, as one does, and found a robotic actuator that advertised a peak torque of 120Nm. I checked out the spec sheet and it is rated to do 120Nm for 10s but its nominal torque rating is 40Nm. I’ve been trying to design my own actuator and this one being only about $260 ($300 after shipping/tax), blew my mind. I didn’t believe it. I wanted to order one but first I verified that it was at least kinda real.
The actuator is called the ROBSTRIDE04, from RobStride Dynamics. I found their Twitter account and found that they have two actuators, the ROBSTRIDE01 and ROBSTRIDE04. I found exactly two videos on the actuators being used, one for a quadruped, and one for a robotic arm. At this point, it was looking good. The company also seems to be by engineers from Xiaomi from their robotics team. I wanted to chat with them, but their Discord link is expired and DMs not open on twitter.

I went further and found their website, and verified that their CAD model worked (it did) and that the software to control the actuator worked. It took some tinkering to get it to be English (there is a configuration .xml in the directory with the .exe with a localization variable), but it seemed the software worked.

I ended up buying it and it was actually a week earlier than the expected date. I’ve done some simple tests like in the videos, and will be figuring out better was ways to test it soon, but my means are limited atm.
tl;dr found an unbelievable actuator advertised to have 120Nm of torque only costing $300 from aliexpress. Seems to be real, and works and has some impressive capabilities already and I haven’t even ran it at its rated 48V yet. (my power supply weak af)

This video legit got scary towards the end. With the risk of smashing the tile floor, kitchen cabinets, counter tops and then standing next to the weights with socks on at the end really got worrying for me

A very good and incredibly cheap actuator, even after the export tax (it's something like 165$ in china). If you open it, it's also quite interesting to see how they optimized the design for mass production

    Love how it ends🫠

A stronger mount and limiting the actuator speed would probably be a good idea, it was moving a bit fast for that kind of load.

That turned out both exactly, and better than I expected at the same time.

probably should have got it in position and then slowly added the weight

There is a difference between static and dynamic load. Just because a motor can hold a load that doesn’t mean it can move it.

    No statement anywhere about backlash...

knew I forgot something! Its backlash isn’t advertised, it feels near zero, but I didn’t have my dial indicator on me to test this time around

@@kindaovermyheadfor lots of applications this is more important than pure torque. It is a planetary gearbox so probably not that good I'm afraid...

Sweet actuator... what broke? which mount?

    • @kindaovermyhead
      @kindaovermyhead  8 часов назад +1

nothing broke, I believe the actuator drew more power than my power supply could handle and disabled.

why is this video only available in 360P / potato resolution?

You could have just spent 3 months 3d printing one that would have performed at least 5 times worse. ... and now i checked your earlier videos and you already tried that :) There has been this trend in youtube of people trying to 3d print these.. guess its "content".
