Just found your channel. I'm 63, and I chose planned home birth for my two back in 1980 and 1983. There were no midwives in our area, so it was just hubby and me. 1st weighed 9 lbs 5 oz, and was a breeze, almost no pain at all. 2nd presented differently and was a totally different experience, but all was well. They're now 41 and 38--my baby is 6'7" tall.
I grew up on a farm / cattle ranch. I grew up close to nature, and was taught from little on that you don't mess with any mama while she is in labor, or right after she's had her kittens, pups, calves, or foals--you don't want to interfere with her bonding with her baby. When I was pregnant, I realized the care available to me in my rural area was totally focused on interventions and interference--it was almost the total opposite of a successful animal birthing experience! I trusted my body, and I'm so glad I did.
Your video and your advice is spot on! Keep getting the message out there. Home birth is SAFER for moms and babies when, as you said, it's planned, and you're low risk. You are a blessing, and your daughter is adorable. Love all those darling new baby noises.

I found out at 15 weeks my son's heart stopped 💔😭!!! The Dr wanted to do a d & c and throw my son "the tissue" away. I refused and did it completely natural 2 weeks later here at home 1/18/2020 at 9:12pm and we buried Angelo and his placenta in our orchard so his life goes into our trees and the circle of life continues. My children wanted to see him after he and I were cleaned up and got to tell him their final goodbyes as well. It was so much more peaceful and we feel he was more honored at home and biggest thing is he wasn't thrown away!!! I am a high risk but I would do anything for my kids.

So proud of you for standing up for your own. I lost my son at around 16 weeks they think. But didn't know until I went into my 20 week ultrasound that he was gone. I was having contractions that morning already and went to the hospital and had him there. They told me he was just big enough that I could take him and bury him. I was shocked to learn there are such rules. I took him home to my Grandma's land to be buried. It's a great deal of comfort knowing that I have him within visiting reach. Such a strange norm we have allowed to take place...hospitals disposing of "miscarried tissue" and how many mourning Mamas have nothing of their babies.

Me and my wife were pretty radical in our younger age, but midwifes were unheard of in our world (West Texas ranching area)
back in the '80's and '90's. But my daughter is a midwife. So we are right there with you. Most of the kids who grew up in our homeschool community, have done home births with midwives. All of you young people who are homesteading and taking control of your lives back from big medicine, big pharma, big ag, etc are so luck to have so much info out there that wasn't as readily available back in the day! Good for you all!

  • @bbvargas
    @bbvargas Год назад +2

I agree with all you said and that was why I planned a home birth back in 1992. Freaked everyone out but I was the only one totally calm. Labor was FAR less intense because I could completely relax, not have to pay attention to anything/anyone but the waves of contractions, and not be checked every few minutes by 10 strangers. Definitely accelerated labor because I was so relaxed.

We're organic dairy farmers and homesteaders in northern NY. We have seven children, this side of heaven. The first five were born at home and the last two were born at our Mennonite midwife's "birth center". My youngest is 28 months and I've had two miscarriages in the last 10 months. Totally agree with your reasons!
    I value autonomy.
I hate being pressured, forced to ignore my instincts, and being a watched pot.
Just let me alone and let my body do the work of birth... and recovery!
Being in your own bed with your favorite food and sharing the experience with your loved ones. And sleep... how can you rest with all those nurses coming in every hour or so and pictures and visitors?... its just too much!
I always tell people, skip toys and fancy gadgets. Give moms nutritious food, a massage, and a house keeper for a gift.

I had fond hopes of being able to have a home birth, although we just don't have the infrastructure to support this option in Australia. Turns out even after 8 anorexic months, my only baby was 3 weeks late and over 11 lbs, and caused a major haemorrhage on his way out. Had I not been in a hospital, I would not have made it, and nor would he. Far from leaving the hospital within a day as my sister did, I needed to stay put for 8 days.
I agree with the negative comments about nurses - most of the many who dealt with me were hideous - but the medical system did pull us back from the brink.
You are so blessed to be able to give birth naturally and easily, among your family at home!

FYI: I had high risk with both pregnancies. I was glad to see that hospitals are changing procedures. The lights were kept down, and many hospitals are using midwives to advise how to make labor a more relaxed time. Hospitals have also realized that staying in the hospital is more dangerous, so as long as there aren't any complications for mom or baby there is usually only a 24 hour stay. Congrats!

    • @operationcomprehension6206

      Robin Kight
You can have a midwife at the hospital. It is totally different than delivering with a regular OBGYN. If you have any risks, you go straight to a doctor.
Regardless, you never know when something is going to go wrong. I could never forgive my self if I had chose to birth at home and something went wrong.
I was high risk with my first, not my second. I had a midwife at the hospital with my second. Two totally different experiences! My daughter is now due and they are having a midwife at the hospital also. I recommend that to everyone!

i also had home birth with my 4th and loved it.. she literally fell out like a torpedo. I always recommend home-birth if you can find a midwife close to you. My 5th was at hospital in 2018 and it was sooooo bad.. but we moved out of midwife range.. only one licensed in our state. The hospital pushes so much crap! I have a 20 yr old, 14, 11, 6 and 1.5 yr old. If you read the Epoch times they did an article recently on birthing, "Why Americans give birth in bed." It was very good. They said MRI shows giving birth on your back with legs up significantly narrows the baby's pathway through the pelvis. It's a must read if you are on the fence.

I absolutely love watching you and your videos because I can do so many of the things you show, but in this video you have explained home births so thoroughly. In so many videos that I have seen supporting home births they do not go into detail about the fact that this is safer and healthier for low risk labors. I highly applaud you for taking the time to explain that high risk pregnancies and labors should be at a hospital by all possible measures. The lives of both momma and baby are at stake otherwise. I had 2 high risk pregnancies and labors, and that not only prevented me from having a home birth but also limited the amount of babies I could have. But, I think you are a wonderful person and mother and thank you for being so thorough.

Thanks for this video, I know it's a year old...lol, but I just had my third baby this past November. I agree with you totally. Now, I can't do home births because of being high risk, but the high risk depends on your self care. I have had gestational diabetes with all three pregnancies but maintained a healthy diet and exercise. So high risk by diagnosis, but I didn't feel like that during. My two girls were both born in hospital by a midwife who I love. She's awesome! One was born in an hour and a half, my November baby came in less than an hour. It is great, you are awake, aware, no drugs, no fatigue. My recovery was amazingly fast this last time. Not sure if it was because of the health I maintained or that it was the third..no idea, but recovery was quick and easy. I hope everyone who is having a baby maintains a great diet, diabetes or not! Also, GET A MIDWIFE! It's worth it! Oh! My number one reason for home birth (if you can), because you don't have to stay in the hospital for days!

Love this! I’m currently pregnant with our ninth and my 3 year old is so excited! She keeps asking if she can catch the baby (the midwife said yes) and she wants to cut the cord too ❤ We have had 6/8 at home so far and are planning on this one being at home.

This popped up on my feed today. I'm not surprised that you home birthed your babies but it was still great to hear. I am a midwife who just retired from catching babies for 25 years and have just started homesteading in my retirement. I love your videos and following you on RUclips.

My 1st labor was an attempted homebirth. My midwife ended up sending me to the er 17 hours later and I needed an emergency csection. She was born, by the grace of God, healthy. Recovery was awful. My next 2 were also necessary (but not emergency) csections (also, recovery was awful).
I find myself a bit jealous, but supportive and happy, when I hear of women having they're successful homebirth. Lol! 🤰👊🖒

Sweet baby. Last October, I finally had my first home birth. My first two were at a birth center, next two at the hospital and then this fifth one at home. We had just moved to another state 2 weeks before he was born (I had prenatal care in the first state until we moved) and we couldn't afford a midwife, so we actually did an unassisted birth. But it was my fifth kid, I have done a ton of research over the years and my OB (who is even a high risk OB- although I wasn't high risk myself) didn't seem too bothered by me giving birth unassisted at home. He even came out feet first in a birthing pool (you really have to do your research to do it a safe way, so don't just anyone try what I did--- do lots of research first). Anyway, labor was 12 hours (which seemed weird for a breech baby; my second was also a double footling breach), it was mostly painless and even somewhat relaxing. It was kind of like taking a relaxing bath all day (yes, the water got kind of gross looking, but we were fine) and then a few minutes of pushing the baby out. He was 9 lbs+, so I was pleasantly surprised how little pain there was.

New to your site so I am catching up on your earlier posts. Wow Rebecca is beautiful...almost 2 now. Even though my pregnancies were difficult and I could not have a home birth, I loved being pregnant and feeling apart of God's creation taking place inside of me. What an honor to be a mother and never to be taken lightly. I was pr-eclampsic with my first 25 years ago. I was teaching school, Kindergarten, when my white cell count went crazy. I was sent home to bed rest for the next 3 months. Our son came 3 weeks early, but was fully developed and healthy. My 2nd son was also pr-eclampsic, but not until the last month. I was teaching part time, but by summer and 5 months pregnant I came home to be a full time mom. Yeah!!!! My heart's desire and I have not regretted it for a moment. My last child was a girl, but because of my history a hospital delivery was done. I was blessed with a wonderful patient OBG, who believes in giving mom time to deliver and not rush into c sections. (My first was a 32 hour delivery). He was my doctor for all 3 and we felt as if he was part of the family. I find your site has great information and I hope will be a blessing to many.

10:26 People also tend to forget that hospitals were created strictly for high-risk situations. Pregnancy and labor themselves are NOT high-risk. Pregnancy/birth are so natural. Considering humans are the only mammals who use hospitals for childbirth out of 6,399 mammals in existence today (6,495 if you want to include extinct mammals), childbirth clearly is NOT a problem or something to be treated as an abnormal situation.

I really love this video (I love all your videos!! Life goals for sure!!). So much good information in here that marketing and social cultural "woke" movements have forced more advanced countries to forget. In some "third world" countries (less developed; not suffering), they still use the same methods for childbirth you're talking about. There was a movie some years ago called "Babies" (I think) about different moms all over the world and how they care for their babies. More tech-advanced cultures like the US and China are the only ones who don't allow themselves to naturally care for ourselves and babies. Clearly these time-tested midwifery practices and homebirth practices work because otherwise every single pioneer family and early indigenous family would have died out in a single generation and none of us would be here today. Whether you look at it evolution-wise or Biblically, if homebirths were not effective and were dangerous to mom and baby, then the first humans would not have had children at all; they would have did or all their attempts at babies would have failed. I was 22 when I had my first child, 27 for my second, both were hospital births because I just didn't know better. Now, if I could go back and do things differently, I would absolutely have homebirths. I have friends who still choose homebirths and I am so proud of them for it. Mothers have been around since the creation of time. We are hearty, sturdy creatures and our bodies really do know what to do with our newborns.

9:40 Often hospital staff also has no idea what it's like to be in labor. The delivery doctors are predominantly male so they just want mama to do what's easiest for Doc, not mom and baby. Even most many nurses don't even know what it's like to give birth. My first child, one nurse actually told me "oh it's not that bad" - a middle-aged lady who'd never had kids. When the evening staff came on, a mom of 5 was assigned as my nurse and she knew what to do. If you have to have your baby in a hospital, demand - yes, demand, you have that right - that your nurse has given birth/is a mom of more than 2 (because you want to minimize chances of people who've had c-section; scheduled c-secs do NOT count as labor). You absolutely have rights as a mom in labor. Hospitals sadly don't want to do more than what conveniences the staff, though.
