- Dodge Truck Frame Rust Repair. This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm back working on my 1980 Dodge truck project. I'm doing some rust repair on the donor chassis before sending it to the sand blaster. I need to repair two small areas and then a large portion of the driver's side kick up. Watch as I fabricate some new panels and MIG weld them into place.
Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Sunday.

If my golf clubs ever rust, I know who to call!!! Nice repair on the frame - gonna be strong for the Dodge truck.
You can fix anything with a welder!
That’s a wonderful video, I have a truck just like yours, I need a frame like yours very good job!
👍
Thanks for sharing, Josh! You were absolutely correct about there having been rust between the brackets, and the frame! Geeezzzz! She be a bit thin in some areas, eh? Nice patch-work! Enjoy! Be safe!
Bro Harry
I'm actually surprised how good the frame was considering how rusty the cab was. This truck sat in the woods for about 20 years.
That frame should be nice and strong with the repairs you made. Nice work!
It's way better than the rusty Swiss cheese that was there before!
Looking good !
👍
Awesome repairs Josh.
Thanks. Good enough for who it's for 👍
Great work Josh!
Looking better now. 💯💯
@@QuickSpeedShop It sure does! 😉
Oh HELL YEAH! Looks good and strong You SIR are doing a great job. Thanks for the video Have a Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving!
There isn't a lot these days to be proud of as a California resident but I have to say I don't envy you guys in the rust belt when it comes to vehicles. The frame you are working on is relatively clean for your area, at least going by some professional mechanics that I watch on RUclips and what they show on much newer trucks and here in California most of us would run away from that rust that you repaired.
Anyways It looks good, I enjoy heavy gauge welding, there is something satisfying about repairing it.
Eventually I'd like to drag so trucks back from out west. They are just so much nicer.
@@QuickSpeedShop metal wise for sure, it is the soft parts that don't hold up out here. Weather stripping turns into charcoal and dashboards look like the grand canyon and basecoat/clear coat paint if it isn't taken care of or put in a garage just basically peels/flakes off the car, that being said it's not uncommon to see a 30 year old vehicle still on the road because of the lack of salty roads. I Remember a few years ago I spent all winter in Chicago and I couldn't believe the amount of rust on an 8-year-old car and 20-year-old cars were pretty much non-existent.
At work we have a 2021 van with 4k on it that already has rust all over the frame. Road salt is brutal on everything.
Thanks for showing the methods you used. With the piece of strap at the back bottom of the frame did you weld and bend it on the truck or off? Did you need any heat for that curve?
I bent it by hand into roughly the right shape and then pushed it into shape as I tacked it.
Lets see frame sand blasted back too you before painting it and are you going to use fluid film on frame ? Or othercrust coating?
I did several videos on it. Short version is it was sand blasted, painted with Eastwood products, the paint failed, it was re-sandblasted, and then epoxy primed, painted with flat Rustoleum black, and then Fluid Filmed.
It’s a cutting an welding video 😉👍
I like cutting and welding stuff!
you could box in some of the weak areas
I'm adding some reinforcement when the frame gets back from sand blasting.
First time I noticed your overalls. They look like leather or what? Where did you get them ?
They are just black Carhartts. They look like leather because the about of oil and Fluid Film that is soaked into them.
@@QuickSpeedShop thanks
FURST
Nice 👍
@@QuickSpeedShop I will get my chassis cheeked
Did you get buried in lake effect snow?
No I was on the edge of it. I got about 5 inches.
Don't you know you aren't supposed to weld frames! Omg, never driving again when this is on the road.
Zero F's given! Weld the world!
Я не думаю что это правильный ремонт рамы ,Вставки должны быть не под прямым углом I don't think this is a correct frame repair. Inserts should not be at right angles.
It will be fine. There will be a gusset under part of it, the crossmember ties into it, and then the spring hanger also bolts across the old metal and new metal.
