I've found that in cases where your arms are in front of your body and locked just above your elbows, it's impossible to get them behind you, especially if the attacker changes their level, ready to pick you up and slam you. In this situation, throwing by using body shifting also doesn't produce the desired effect, as their balance is not affected the same way as it would be when they grab higher up towards your shoulders. Some of my fellow classmates suggested using a headbutt, but if your attacker has dropped their level to pick you up, this method obviously won't work.
My teacher suggested stepping forward while raising your arms just enough to break the grip, allowing for a follow-up with an elbow strike. The only reason this is not ideal for me is that if you raise your arms too much, it can inadvertently aid your attacker in applying a rear naked choke. Therefore, I'd like to ask if there is a more ideal solution when your arms are in front of your body and you are grabbed tightly just above the elbows?
I'd like to thank you for putting this video series out and look foreward to the continuation next week!

I’m not entirely sure of the situation that you are trying to describe, simply because if your opponent is trying to grab your arms from the front, you should have already intercepted the attempt & hit them. Plus, they are most likely only grabbing one of your arms, so you have a free hand….hit them & use footwork to alter your position & gain an advantage in terms of angle & structure.

@@WSLVTMalaysia The situation is that your opponent bearhugs you from behind. You yourself are standing still and have your arms hanging in front of your body instead of by your side. Now when your opponent reaches around your body and arms and tightens his grip(around your elbow height), you cannot get your arms behind your back to perform the palm strike.

@@florisvanlingenthat’s the whole point of the first action, as explained in the clip. No matter how firmly you are grabbed, if you draw the elbows up, as opposed to trying to go to the side, you will be able to create enough space to get your hands to the rear.
